Square Enix working on five new IP

Square Enix's fiscal report for 2010/11 is out, and one page of the report titled "Strengthening Own IPs" outlines how Square Enix intend to focus on establishing "10 strong Intellectual Properties".

It outlines current strong IPs as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Hitman.

It then points out that four of Square Enix's major five studios are working on new properties. The Tokyo team, responsible for FF, DQ and KH are said to be working on "Two Original IPs", while Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex), IO Interactive (Hitman) and the new London Wimbledon upstart studio will all contribute one new original IP each

Their site even lists that they are only working on Deus Ex and Thief. They also mention a 3rd project if you look at the employment section.

Meh SE is no longer a relevant company.

Hitman is a strong intellectual property? DJ_Lae

It has a decent following, gets good reviews, and earnt enough money/popularity to spawn an awful (but profitable) film adaptation...so I guess it must be doing something right.

Personally I'd call it the best current stealth franchise, but only because Thief has been out of action for a while.

Tbh, I didn't mind it that much either, but it's difficult to mention the film without someone bringing up how they didn't like/understand it.

Yeah man people do that all the time when they simply didnt like a movie for whatever reason, but in the end, i bet we're going to see another hitman movie sometime in the future.

Now, back on Topic, Square Enix has no credibility after FF14. They had to openly apologize to their fans for how terrible it was, lacking the minimun components that any decent MMO RPG should have. They can come out and say that they're working on 10 new IPs and i'll think that probably most of them will turn out just as bad.

As much as people love new IPs this is great and all but, they should focus more on announced titles and get those on the shelves before starting to work on more titles. By doing this, it seems like they won't finish games in time and have to keep delaying them. Come to think of it, these titles may be for next gen consoles. ( I have no idea but maybe?) They probably getting ideas and artwork or something.

It's kind of sad to watch SE slowly kill themselves. It reminds me of wtaching SEGA back in the day.

I think Square Enix are working on to many projects at once and should concentrate on getting one or two quality titles out the door. FF13 was average and FF14 was a complete shambles. I am looking forward to the new Tomb Raider and Hitman games but this is really Tomb Raiders last chance and if it fails its over for the franchise so personally I would concentrate on that and get a solid quality game out the door. If these current IP's bomb not many will give the new IP's a chance.
