It could happen.

Indeed. I think it's pretty clear this new title is going to be on a current gen console.
Don't nerf my STALKER, bro. Even if it's multiplat.
Don't think they will... nerfing a franchise that sells over 4 million copies doesn't seem very logical :P
say that to Splinter Cell: Conviction.

After reading that, I don't doubt it will be on the 360 too. Which is good for me, or maybe they will port the original first."A completely new multi-platform technology developed by GSC will make the core of the game." Uh oh, hermits are gonna be pissed.bobbetybob
Yup, certain ones probably will.
I personally think Stalker could be brought to consoles, though the layout and map loading will be more regular.
Hopefully the PC version remains similar to the initial 3.
I hope they don't nerf it. I mean how hard would it be to make the game for both consoles and PCs and just let PC owners have higher graphical settings and lean buttons.
if it ends up on the consoles hopefully they don't nerf anything and get rid of the mod support for the PC version.lawlessxYep. I'm a console gamer, but I want to play the 'real' Stalker - not a game that's turned into a typical FPS :) But yeah, I'm excited at the prospect.
I'm sure the game will be great but console versions will just be so far behind. If Metro 2033 is anything to go by the difference will be night and day.

after reading the hype about this game on here, i looked up some videos and graphically it was definitely nothing special. am i wrong here?
EDIT: i'm referring to stalker.
As long as the visuals hold up to current gen standards on consoles, I'll be happy.I'm sure the game will be great but console versions will just be so far behind. If Metro 2033 is anything to go by the difference will be night and day.

the console version was nothing special, the PC version is one of the few games that can give crysis a good challenge.

What? Wouldn't this be Stalker 4? There was SoC, CS, and CoP. Are those expansion packs, or is Stalker pulling a GTA4?enterawesomeWell CS was a prequel to SoC, but I don't know why they aren't counting CoP as a sequel, as it did take place after SoC. Maybe a revisit to the Chernobyl NPP is in order?

I believe each of them falls under the first Stalker, each a prequel/sequel carrying on the story of
Strelok opening up the path to the centre of the "Zone"
(though Clear Sky deals with a different Stalker).

Are you talking about Stalker or Metro 2033?
Metro 2033 is amazing looking game on PC, better than Crysis in some areas. Stalker can be amazing if you have the PC to turn everything on, the latest one has DX11 effects as well. But Stalker has to handle massive enviroments, something which uses alot of ram, something the consoles don't have.

Out of curiosity...what has a bigger game world - Stalker or RDR?
Unmodded Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky look pretty mediocre, but the STALKER Complete 2009 or LURK mod for Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky Complete mod for Clear Sky make both games look absolutely amazing. Call of Pripyat looks pretty good out of the box but it is also getting a Complete Mod pretty soon. Every game in the series though has fantastic lighting that needs to be experienced in person.the console version was nothing special, the PC version is one of the few games that can give crysis a good challenge.

You have massive atmospheric enviroments mixed with one of the by far best lighitng engines in a game. The lighting storms look downright amazinghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=811cft3Vg2E

i mean, it looks pretty good but nothing mind blowing. the other poster said it's huge open environment so i guess those graphics are great or that.

RDR.
RDR streams in a bubble around you. Stalker loads the entire level so things you change remain.
Ah I see, thanks.
Also keep in mind that the lighting engine in stalker is pretty much unchallenged by anything.
no, not without gimping it. It need alot more ram than the consoles have and the fact that the console's OS uses less doesnt matter since the game itself uses over 1gb ram at times not counting the rest of the computer's background stuff. The consoles may have the graphics and processing power to do unmodded shadow of chernobyl if they implemented a level streaming tech for their levels to lessen the ram usage.

lazerface216
Its possible.
Just render the game at some awful low res like 1024x576, remove the HDR, the SSAO, the sunshafts, the dynamic wet surfaces, make the shadows a low res jittery mess, lower the polygon count and remove all volumetrics and it will run fine at 20-30fps. Bit like most console games i guess.
GSC Game Worlds aren't known for there optimization. The game will be a night and day difference.

The engine (as is) loads everything to ram, and everything stays there. It is only called to be rendered in the frame buffer when the player nears it, the world is entirely "living" as a video game world can get. The engine also uses deferred shading. During scene-geometry rendering, it doesn't have to bother with any lighting iteslf; instead, it just outputs lighting properties such as the position and normal (map) of each pixel. Afterwards lighting is applied as a 2D post-process using this intermediate G-buffer as input to the lighting shader. Bundle that all up and it takes a whole bunch of computational power to do. The engine is a bit inefficient but the results are remarkable, and it really cannot be captured in video or screenshot form, especially when added with the absolute and utter immersion from the atmosphere, there is nothing quite like it. It also helps that darkness is literally darkness, not just a "black light" in the scene. Pitch black lightning storm gun battles in an abandoned farmhouse is quite possibly the most immersive thing I've experienced in a long, long time. Please Log In to post.
