So they added some nice lighting to the game engine...shame it becomes completely unplayable with it turned on.

My machine, an OC'd C2D 8500, 4GB Dominator XMS & 4870, can run Crysis just peachy, the original STALKER maxed out, GRiD maxed out and Mass Effect without framerate drops even in the citadel. However this game just stutters and jerks everywhere with the new features enabled.

No wonder they held back a demo. This is one instance where I should have tested before buying, really poor show.

Could be but everyone is experiencing it. The reviews for this will be harsh, mark my words.

You shouldnt get frame rate problems with Mass Effect. I use a 8800GT and played through ME fine without any frame problems,,,make sure you have the latest drivers!

Considering a good portion of people who will pirate this game wouldn't buy it even if it was GOTY and they were swimming in cash I would say that you should add the word "some" in front of the word "people" in your title.

I don't but lots of people do so i mentioned it.

THIS IS NOT A DRIVER ISSUE. Sorry, just thought i'd get that out of the way. The first STALKER was poorly optimised and this is even worse...hell they even had a patch ready for launch to 'fix' the issues....but it didn't.

I want to love this game but it's buggier than the first one! (if thats possible).

Yeah and that wasn't great but ok we could deal with it....however this was sold on the improvements made to that particular aspect. Did they not try and run their own game?

The first was plenty buggy. I still try to play it but the crashes are a real pain to the experience. I am going to hold off on Clear Sky until there's a few patches out for it. It helps I am kind of low on game funds right now anyway. Next time I spend money will be for Far Cry 2 or Fallout 3.

This won't get fixed, the problems are fundamental to the game engine. This is what comes of reworking so many times over the past 7 years .

Its got problems, even with 4870X2 (GDDR5 versions) in Crossfire the lighting system lags, I just turn it off cause its not like the lightings that bad without it anyway.

They take crysis to town and slaughter everything else but clear skies is just bad coding, no game should have this many leaks in the coding for memory.

Why don't you 1. Patch the game 2. Turn the lighting off 3. Wait for the Float32 mod. Seriously, if you can't run a game maxxed out, doesn't mean it is a bad game. The game is great, I still haven't bought it yet, was almost tempted to order from newegg with out a CD key, but I'll wait till Monday.

Probably not particularly extensively. They seem to be sort of lo-fi and haphazard. Think they could benefit from the support of a proper publisher.

Well the lighting is fine for me.

Only at particular times of the day, does the game chug a little.

Its the bugs that are the main issue.

Corrupting save game files, random crashes, and new patches that render previous saves useless.

That is the real problem.

Its a great game and all... the issues can be fixed... but ffs its inexcusable to have the same issues as SoC AGAIN.

thats pretty crazy. I know the first stalker ran like crap on my pc I couldnt even enable HDR. Wasnt as fast as your pc but it was still fast and ran every other game 10x faster. Even Crysis ran alot better on my pc than stalker did. It has to be the most unoptimized game that was ever created.

So they added some nice lighting to the game engine...shame it becomes completely unplayable with it turned on.

It took me almost an hour to figure out optimal settings for my config (considering you have to restart the game pretty much each time you change something). Played a little, got save games corrupted. Installed a recently released patch for russian version: framerates dropped almost a half, making game playable only on SoC-like visuals, saves still get corrupted from time to time. What bugs me the most - the game itself is really great, but I gave up on it for the time being, maybe after a 7th or 8th patch I'd give it a try once more, but for now - it's Warhead time :)

Yes the game stutters quite abit in places just like the 1st one, but otherwise performance is fine for the graphics.

Iam using an 8800GT and iam using the enhanced dynamic lightning with most settings close to max and my frame rate is fine, 25-50fps perfectly playable, and i think its a good looking game, some amazing texture work.

Guess iam lucky. :D

Great game, loving it.

I have no real stuttering or framerate problems that I can recall with the graphics boosted almost all the way up in the game. But I have some other real issues that make the game completely unplayable, like crashes that occur only a minute into loading my game. What a stupid bugfest, I was hoping to play the game too. :(

A demo is impossible for Stalker, since the AI system is tracking all entities in all the levels, not just in the loaded one.

Patch is already out, has been for a while, new one due soon.

The russian version (which gets patched ahead) has gotten 4 patches already.

Well the Euro / International patches have fixed plenty of stuff, even if only one fatch has been released.

For some people its fine, for me I had minor quest issues - Mmy saves have been corrupted to the extent where loading them crashes the game - which happened with SoC aswell on release. Luckiliy im only a few hours in - much of that dordeling around.

However the Russian one seems to be doing loads of bug killing, with so many patches, which is really leaving the Euro patches in the dust. I have been trying to use user made temp fixes on the English GSC forums, but the devs never seem to pay attention to the english forums anyways.

Its a real downer, as when the game works, and you play it, its utterly awesome. All my grievences when first playing it (such as too much focus on combat, and action orientated ) dissapeared, and just as things began to heat up. It hit godamn 100% pure awesomeness, then came the crashes.

Sigh.

So im just waiting for a new Int. Patch.

I guess its a good thing as its not distracting me from the loads of uni work lately.... though im peeved that its simply not working, not just simply out of the frustration of buying it and not being able to play, but its the major issue that would affect its critical opinion and scores.... Which sucks as without all that crud its a fantastic game, and everything a Stalker fan could ask for.

Though when you do start playing it the swamps at the start might leave a bitter taste in your mouth - if you are the type like me, who enjoys exploring at your own pace, not being thrown into combat. As soon as you hit the Cordon it suddenly improves out of sight, getting back to the fantastic formula, but better. You can also head back to the swamp for some exploring - which is great, as its such a moody and scary area, the start of the game really kills the whole areas gameplay potential.

Whoah, dude, the number 4 in the patch version doesn't mean it has been 4 patches already :) Actually it's been only 2 so far: 1.5.0.3 and 1.5.0.4, with plenty of them coming in the near future.

Anyway, none of them do the job, game is still unstable. The thing that bugs me the most are the corrupted saves, I have spent 3 hours "cleaning" the Agroprom, doing missions for the Free Stalkers faction, and all saves that were made in that area were corrupted: auto, quick, and two manual saves. That was the last drop, I'm not touching this game until they get their **** together...

I'm not a fan of the whole pirating thing and im against it in most aspects, but in the case of SCS try before you buy is tempting!

I'm playing the game and to be honest i think its excellent, one of the best FPS games i have played but-just like you i SUFFER

While playing the game on Full Graphics in most areas its fine some normal slowdown but hey my Rigs getting old!

ITS THE CONSTANT stuttering of the game either accessing the C Drive or Reading from the CD to load the landscape that kills it!

Example walking along large fire fight NO slowdown lots of things happening, i finish the usually amazing gun battle and walk away only to be greeted with a Stutter Stutter and a general PAUSE then back to normal!

Hmm you know this game lol runs better at higher settings on my PC than lower settings!

I think/assume that the creators have but WAY to much pressure on the average gaming rigs processing power!

For example i can run Crysis on High no Problems and that game is stunning and almost as expansive.

ehhh, not necesarily, i mean. sure the first one was also very buggy at first, but the game itself was a fantastic experience, certainly one of the "greats" of pc games, and now with it fully patched up its pretty much all fine

i am very confident with the bugs aside, Clear Sky will also be a fantastic game, and soon enough all the bugs will be patched out along with some better optimization
