I think they are going to give you the same, now standard, 500 GB.
What they should do is not only allow to upgrade for a bigger internal HDD but also make use of external HDDs. Now if they could be convinced of ditching 2.5" HDDs in favor of 3.5" HDDs for internal ........
It's going to be too small, whatever they choose.
It's hard to answer this without knowing things about the games and machine like what kind of optical drive the machines will use.
I will say I would be happy with a 4TB internal to start off, but I'll probably have to buy that myself.
I currently have a 2TB internal in my Batman PS4.
Microsoft have already started making Xbox One with a 1TB hybrid SSD HDD, lets hope this trend continues.
@lamprey263: how do you them to price gouge us if they gave us options like that?
PS4 allows you to put an internal HDD in of your liking, but no external support yet.
Xbox One does not allow for internal HDD replacement but externals are completely fine and from my experience work great.
2TB feels way too small even today. Has to be something between 6-10TB.
I have about 30 pretty big games installed on my 1tb HDD on my PC. Then I have lots of movies, music, programs etc. What the **** are people using their storage for? "Way too small"? The hell? Do you really need 100 games installed on a HDD at the same time?

"Pretty big" games nowadays are 30-50GB. You wouldn't have space for 30 of them, let alone anything else. Besides, heavy Steam users tend to have their entire library installed because it's easier to just get bigger HDD than wasting time managing the space.

Yeah, I can see that. I just found it hard to believe anyone must have 10tb space.. I couldn't fill that up even if I tried. I have a bunch of 30-ish GB games, but nothing as much as 50.
500 gigs is fine for all consoles except xbox.
I want 4 terabytes on the xbox if they will force you to install the games like they're doing right now.
Sony and MS will probably start off with a 1tb hdd at the start of the gen (probably end with 2tb), while Nintendo will probably go for a whooping 100gb hdd....
For MS and Sony? Probably like 2TB SSD or hybrid drive.
For Nintendo? Probably like 64 GB flash memory.
Nintendo should have 150 GB of flash memory or 1TB SSD or HDD. What is a SSD?
MS and Sony should do that.
Should be at least a 5GB 7200 rpm hybrid drive. The speed of the drives in Ps4 and XB1 are also a problem, they really cheap'd out on those standard 5400 rpm drives.
2-4TB SSHD, and i'll pay extra.
@GameboyTroy: Why?
What I said about Nintendo should be fine for them.
I'm agreeing with the poster I've quoted for MS and Sony. 2TB should be enough for them.
@GameboyTroy: I was referring to the bump.
This thread is helpful. Its a serious thing.
It shouldn't be a situation where you need to manage space.
Physical games should just run off the disk and thats it.
That's not going to happen, at least on the Sony and MS side. Not sure what Nintendo will do next gen, blu ray will be too slow to run games off the disc for whatever hardware they put out.
But I agree, forced installs are bad for consoles. If I had my way, we'd go back to cartridges.

Any chance a new faster media will come by PS5?
" If I had my way, we'd go back to cartridges."
If we had the storage space we get from blurays and don't need to blow into the cartridges like the NES/SNES days, then I'm all for it.
$100-200 cheaper and use your own HDD.
Companies should not be able to charge a premium for dirt cheap storage.

I doubt a new disc format will be made, right now they're just increasing blu ray's size capacities and digital is becoming more and more prevalent.
Cartridges can definitely hold enough space these days, a modern console would likely use SD cards instead of rom carts like back in the day.
