Looking sweet and crisp.
@flipclic:
Obviously you didn't get the joke, I was alluding to the fact that game has been in development for 4 years and has had many postponements in that time. Thus the 2032 joke.

I cannot think of any games anywhere ever that have taken >4 years to develop. Ever. EVER!!!
The atmosphere in the game is crazy high it sets the scene well, just doing something as simple as taking off from a landing pad like i did here is awesome.
Nice ship man , where's your co-pilot ?
Totally amazing.
@Pedro: personally i don't think you are either, you shouldn't put yourself down like that...
More power you if you think that video was something to write home about.
You didn't need to post here from the Gek-go. But I'll let you think about that!
I went into this thread like 'Yeah, yeah right.' but damn this game is starting to look good. Oh man, the lighting. It should be forbidden to play this game with your curtains open; It could cause traffic accidents.
This game, if ever released, will be the biggest flop in the history of everthing.
on the contrary when SC gets released it will be the greatest and most ambitious game in the history , a vast universe to explore with many great features that you hardly can find in any other game
you actually tried play starcitizen?. The arena commander etc are playable but star citizen it self is not The arena commander etc is not capped and performance is excellent. Star Citizen is Locked at 30fps and infinite load screen problems. Once you get in its hard to move around and accessing computer to get your ship doesn't work most of the time. It shouldn't even be called alpha its way off been an alpha version. Its more like pre alpha at best. Yes I have a capable PC with a KFA2 EX OC 1080GTX I76700k 4.5ghz. They have had 4 years and not much to show and most kick starter to date.

It's not locked at 30 FPS and 2.6 doesn't have any real problem with getting stuck in loading. On an empty server I can pull over 60 fps easily in the PU.
2.6.1 is going to implement two peices of technology that will greatly increase the framerate. Right now there is a massive CPU bottleneck as the map structure is still utilizing a 64 bit version of the CryEngine based map structure (not their custom one) and they do not have any network bind culling, which means your CPU has to track every object in the game. Since they are using an older version of the map technology, every single asteroid around Yela has to be tracked, every since NPC and player, every single piece of debris that can be moved around with physics, absolutely every station and object you see.
Their new system stores stuff like the asteroids and debris in a new structure that allows it to be dynamically created on your client rather than being passed the data from the server on load and then having each object updated independently. The network bind culling also prevents your PC from having to track stuff you can't interact with. This means your CPU is only tracking stuff in the vicinity of your character, not battles that are going on across the system.
These two pieces of tech alone should skyrocket framerates to acceptable levels for now. They are absolutely vital for the game to move on.
In 3.0 the new MMO networking that they've been working on for basically two years is going to be implemented. That'll greatly increase the player count as well as the size of the maps. It also will support the procedurally generated planets.
Four years isn't really a ton of time for a game of this size. They've shown off significantly more than other large-scale, AAA budget titles that were started from scratch at this point in their development. Stuff is going to be ramping up greatly once this new tech is finally implemented.
Will be looking dated by time it releases..... That if it ever releases...
SQ42 will be released this year I think!

General community consensus is mid to late 2017, a few months ago it was early to mid 2017 but that's changed now after the vertical slice disappearing. I'm still hopeful it will be this year but when you consider how much is still to be implemented I'm not sure. Ignoring the planetary stuff that will come with 3.0 later this year (April'ish I suspect) they need to have system jumping in place and that's not due in the PTU until 4.0 which may not arrive until 2018 when Star Citizen is closer to release.
@naz99: not hating on SC but it didn't look a lot more impresive than E:D space travel/combat. Granted it has a bit more color and it's definitely cool that they have bigger ships you can walk around in and a world the interact with as a person, but a lot of the stuff they show in the vids I've watched seems like filler that is cool the first few times then becomes tedious like running to your ship thru the bays.
I'm still waiting for them to flesh out the economy stuff before I'm completely sold. Right now, E:Ds biggest detraction is the economic system and the powers system is really weak and needs a revamp desperately, but the alien contact has basically temporarily distracted everyone.

Maybe not to you looking at it in the 3rd person but playing it it's much more impressive and immersive than elite, and i play Elite Dangerous on my Vive, so i just don't agree, and as for elite the single thing that game has always lacked for me is any actual content whatsoever other than forever staring at spacestation menus and your ships hud and seeing the same rocky planet and 2 spacestations again and again spawned across thousands of systems, clinical mechanics only take that game so far then it falls way short IMO, it does have the most stunning sound design of any game ever though :)

Assuming we can't play it right now, I mean the next big update will start to rival full release AAA games
Sure, but that does not help that tight spacesuits or spacestations is incredible boring to look at no matter the graphics
Good thing there will be planets with lust terrain and etc

LOL cows new DC!
@naz99: I get what your saying I suppose and not gonna say you're opinion isn't valid, but Elite is kinda what you make of it. I play it mostly for combat so it's not really about staring at the same menus etc. EDs combat is pretty good. Not saying SCs isn't, but all the procedural stuff won't really make a big difference if they don't have the good economic system in place. I'm rooting for it though I will say that. This game and Camelot Unchained are the two big titles I'm waiting on to pull me back into the PC side.
