"Tri-Ace has posted a job recruitment ad in Japan to look for designers, game planners and programmers for two new titles, one is a new fantasy RPG, the other one is a new installment of a popular fantasy RPG, and both projects are planned for Xbox 360. It seems like the two RPGs refer to Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4."

The hell? That'd be a very stupid move by Sqaure-Enix if SO4 is exclusively for the Xbox360. I don't mind if it's gonna be multiplat, but if they won't be selling well in Japan if it's just for the X360. Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata didn't sell well over there, heck Eternal Sonata isn't selling that great in the US already. So what's the deal? Hope it's just a stupid rumour and that it'sa multiplat, cuz I wanna play it on my PS3.

Didn't they say that Star Ocean 4 was going to be a PS3 exclusive or am I thinking of a different game here?

I made a thread about the exact same thing a couple of days ago, but it got locked. Hopes this one stays up.

This "rumor" comes from http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196344 where a user found the job ad. Another user in the same thread found an ad from the same company stating "porting between platforms" as one of the tasks. So it's multiplatform.

Let's hope so. I mean, they'er already remaking SO1&2 on the PSP, and SO3 was a hit on the PS2, so the smart move would be bringing it to the PS3 as well, where the fans would be expecting it. If it's also on the Xbox360, then better, so those who didn't experience Star Ocean games can get to know it. They're already getting Infinite Undiscovery, so good for them and should be enough as an exlcusive.

Would be nice, but I would prefer a new IP like Infinite Undiscovery. If it does come to the Xbox 360, it'll probably be because of Square Enix wanting to gain more market share in the West. Also attract new interest in JRPGs for what some consider a largely shooter based console.

Sales of Blue Dragon in Japan were good considering the user base, pretty much 1 out of every 2 people who own an Xbox 360 in Japan bought it (Close to 200,000 copies sold vs 400,000 consoles sold). But just as Dragon Quest doesn't have a large following in the West, Blue Dragon (A new IP with cookie cutter characters and a story that doesn't pick up until the third disk) wouldn't get much support either.

More mature JRPGs do better in NA and the EU, like Final Fantasy. Games that have rich character development and deep stories. Eternal Sonata would have done much better in Japan and NA if it had Square Enix name slapped on the cover. Probably a HUGE reason why Microsoft is partnering up with them to publish Infinite Undiscovery. No real Square Enix game has been released on the Xbox 360, so it'll be interesting to see it's impact. (Final Fantasy XI doesn't count, neither does Project Sylpheed)

Star Ocean 4 will sell 3 copies on the X Box 360....it'd be a waste of time and money for SE. I look at this forum and see posters' gamertags and rarely do I ever see Eternal Sonata or Blue Dragon in them. JRPGs aren't meant for the 360.

You completely missed the point, see above post. If the Xbox 360 isn't ment for JRPGs, it sure has alot of them coming - Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, Cry On, Lost Odyssey and so on...

QFT Blue Dragon is the very definition of a flop and Eternal Sonata, rated 8.5 and almost AAA, gets absolutely zero respect from 360 fans.

It's good to know how close minded you people are. You assume that everyone who owns an Xbox 360 hates JRPGs and wouldn't even give them a chance.

Not everyone but the majority wont. How many people bought a 360 for Gears and Halo as opposed to Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata?

Blue Dragon was a mediocre game and Eternal Sonata was for some reason released a week before Halo 3. Honestly, who in their right mind releases a 360 game around the release of Halo 3?

Maybe because Blue Dragon is boring and Eternal Sonata looks like a Xbox 1 game?

I understood...but, westerners don't give a crap about what you said. Sure, the games sell well (maybe decent sales) in the East, but over here it isn't going to be the same. 360 may have more JRPGs coming, but it doesn't mean they're going to do well in terms of sales.

Well im a 360 owner and all I play is rpgs. I purchased BD and ES and plan to purchase every jrpg that comes to the 360. You shouldnt stereotype the way you are doing. You just sound bitter at the possibilty of so4 going multi. Me personally if so4 does come to the 360 I will have 0 reason to purchase a ps3.

Blue Dragon isn't the type of game that does well in the West, neither is Eternal Sonata.

It's not how many people bought the console just for Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata, it's that people did buy the console just for them and future JRPGs. To be able to move over 190,000 copies of a game like Blue Dragon in Japan was big for Microsoft.

This is an uphill battle to attract JRPG lovers to the Xbox 360, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant and Cry On will continue that push. Remember last generation the Xbox had 0 JRPGs, and that mindset that the Xbox doesn't have any JRPGs and is only a shooters console lingers to this day. It'll take alot more effort on Microsofts part to tear down that idea, with Square Enix support, it won't be as hard as it would have been had they done it alone.

blue dragon sold well :|ProductNumber49
It did sell well all things considered...

A.)it was a huge flop

B.)Japan's 360 install base is a joke

Yet somehow it still managed to outsell 95% of ps3 titles in Japan at least 2to1. The only exception being Hot Shots Golf 5 I believe...

Don't get me wrong, SO4 will sell much better on PS3 but it's really not fair to discredit Blue Dragon.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Of course people interested in JRPGs don't own a x360, yet. But when there enough JRPGs, they will - content is king. This is why Microsoft is churning out exclusive JRPGs through Mistwalker, to make third party follow.

Edit: Just to make it clear, 90% of JRPG fans own neither console yet. So which one that will be JRPG king this generation is still to be determined, but it looks good for the x360.

Come on, Disgaea 3, FFXiii, Star Ocean 4 (supposed PS3 exclusive), Eternal Sonata, White Knight Story and others that excape my mind right now. PS3 is looking like the JRPG king this gen. All the Xbox360 has as exlusive for now is Blue Dragon (not good imo), infinite undiscovery (interesting), and Lost oddysey (Mhhh... 4 discs 20 hour FMVs...).

x360 got Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey and Cry On as exclusives, Eternal Sonata as a timed exclusive. SO4 is not an PS3 exclusive, as we have already established is this thread. FFXIII can go either way as it's not up for release until 2009. What they showed of White Knight Story at TGS was meh, Disgaea is mediocre.Eitherway thePS3 don't have any big JRPGs coming in YEARS, so it looks pretty bad for that platform.

Blue Dragon and Blue Dragon 2, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, Cry On, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey (I play JRPGs for the story, I like turn based JRPs and this have a mature theme unlike Blue Dragon. If playing a game that is 4 disks turns you off, you obviously weren't around for all the great PlayStation 1 JRPGs.)

I'm beginning to think this isn't a debate of the existence, or quality of JRPGs on the Xbox 360, but rather angry Playstation 3 owners who don't want the Xbox 360 only owners to have JRPGs to play.

Yeah, right FXIII can go either way. Don't think so. Maybe, just mayyybe FFXIII versus, but don't count on it. Disgae and WKS are not good. Then Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon is *****. About SO4 being Multiplat. It has NOT being stablished, especially in this thread.

Final Fantasy XII was released at the end of 2006 right? Square is working with a new and more complex platform, they won't be able to put out Final Fantasy XIII in 2008, at best, a Q4 2008 release in Japan and a Q1 2009 release in NA and the EU. It doesn't bother me, I don't want a rushed Final Fantasy.

As for it going to the Xbox 360, not likely. Square is giving the Xbox 360 new IPs, and will be developing new RPG games that appeal more towards Western Audiences. Star Ocean 4 on the other hand will probably be using the same game engine as Infinite Undiscovery, so it being released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 isn't unreasonable.

[QUOTE="Carmilla31"][QUOTE="majadamus"]Star Ocean 4 will sell 3 copies on the X Box 360....it'd be a waste of time and money for SE. I look at this forum and see posters' gamertags and rarely do I ever see Eternal Sonata or Blue Dragon in them. JRPGs aren't meant for the 360.
BreakingPoint8

QFT Blue Dragon is the very definition of a flop and Eternal Sonata, rated 8.5 and almost AAA, gets absolutely zero respect from 360 fans.

It's good to know how close minded you people are. You assume that everyone who owns an Xbox 360 hates JRPGs and wouldn't even give them a chance.

I see nothing but lemmings bashing JRPGs so yeah I think most of them hate them.

[QUOTE="kentaro22"][QUOTE="Pripyat"]

[QUOTE="Carmilla31"]Not everyone but the majority wont. How many people bought a 360 for Gears and Halo as opposed to Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata?Pripyat

No where in this thread have we determined where SO4 will go. You fail.

Well I'm not a lemming, and most people aren't so loyal to a single platform that they would dismiss games on other platforms. It's ironic that "cows" are the ones doing all the bashing of the JRPGs on/coming out for the Xbox 360. I thought JRPGs were played and loved for their story and characters, yet you all bash games you have never played. It's obvious that this isn't a case of JRPG lovers, but Sony fans.

Well whatever, if it does go to the Xbox 360 none of you will suffer, it'll just mean more people will be able to enjoy the game. Exactly like The Last Remnant.

I never see that. All i see right now is cows bashing the 360 because it currently has more JRPGs.

Hope it's just a stupid rumour and that it'sa multiplat, cuz I wanna play it on my PS3.

hazardbarzard

Well I did play Star Ocean 3, but the game left me wanting more. It was not bad game but it wasnt a great game.
