In its first month!!
That's not good
What happened??
I heard they updated the game to make those early sections with mandatory stealth easier, and explained that later sections of the games aren't like this. It might not have been enough to undo the impressions reviews gave about this aspect of the game.
Star Wars without the space magic ain't Star Wars, and if you find the knights, princesses, wizards and the simplicity of good and evil tiresome then that's more reason to not pump out so much content.
The girl boss isn't embraced either. Design your stealth and action in a way that makes sense for a woman. You can get away with it, but it depends on tone, and Star Wars doesn't have the right tone for it.
Yeah that's no bueno...
I think both the Star Wars brand and the Ubisoft brand have lost a lot of strength. The game looked ok, but also like it was "another Ubisoft open-world". Stealth looked subpar, so did space combat. Every gameplay vid I saw looked a bit broken, and sort of washed out/boring.
The Star Wars brand kind of has this loser image right now. Maybe it's just from my perspective, but it's not a franchise that gets me excited anymore (allthough ironically I'm playing Jedi: Survivor atm and its pretty great).
I dunno, I didn't feel any excitement for the game myself and so I can see why others felt the same. That being said, I'm sure it's a good time like Mad Max, or Rage 2.

Anbore.
I'd buy it except knowing they have future expansion content planned I'm just waiting a year for the all content edition to be discounted to $20 instead of $130.

No alien characters either. Creators obviously don't like Star Wars and only used the IP as a vehicle to tell their story, like creator of Joker saying every studio rejected his script until he made it DC-related.

According to some this is what Starwars should be.
Which tells me all I need to know.
I would have thought that’s not too bad but I’m guessing it’s really bad for a Star Wars title? 1 million sold, what is a respectable number they were hoping for?
Thata not a terrible number would like to know what kind of number they expected.

I beleive this game had the biggest marketing budget for any game ever made by Ubisoft being it was a new AAA game with a star wars license.
That's what happens when you offer a subscription service (best to rent) just for me to pay less ($14) than full price. What was Ubisoft expecting? Why should anyone pay full price when you have a sub service.
But sadly however, the Star Wars franchise as a whole is heading into financial crisis. First the Acolyte flop on Disney aka no S2 and now Outlaws flopped on Ubisoft face. Lesson learned, do not go chasing a certain group of people and focus on what's important on the actual game. Fun gaming and nothing more/less. I however like Outlaws, I like the space battles, stealth was poorly executed and I can say Star Wars Jedi games are superior, EA gets credit here as they didn't do what Ubisoft did.
@sargentd: Holy smokes! Biggest marketing budget ever for a Ubisoft game? I guess Ubisoft has lost a number of nickels on this game?lol. I didn’t know it was that bad of a loss? 😟

Yeah just double checked for myself lol
They will be lucky to break even on this game.
And assasins creed just got pushed back to february a few weeks before launch.
ubisoft is literally on fire right now
You mean the Star Wars Outlaws game where you can't actually be an outlaw hamstrung by the usual elements Ubisoft does to stop their open worlds from actually being fun? Man, color me surprised. Imagine if Ubi were the exclusive holder of the IP like Lucasfilm used to do back in the day for video game rights. Not giving EA a pass either since Jedi Survivor was broken as hell and got away with it in initial reviews
It'd be a great game if not for the forced stealth. I sort of put it on the backburner because it felt almost broken to me (that, and the autosave was terrible) in the player's disfavor, but I will try it again now that they have "fixed" it.
It's still fun, though, and really does embody a lot of great Episode IV-VI Star Wars vibes.
Ubisoft, which is behind the "Assassin's Creed" franchise, last week said it has postponed the release of the next title in the popular game series by three months to Feb. 14, 2025.
Shares of Ubisoft, which also cut net bookings guidance for its full fiscal year and second quarter, have slumped to decade lows on the back of dismal investor expectations about the company's triple-A games pipeline and financial prospects.
Last week, activist investor AJ Investments said it was working with other Ubisoft shareholders to push the company to sell itself to private equity firms or to Chinese gaming giant Tencent, which already holds a stake in the French game publisher

Wow. I wasn't expecting this to do great, but that's pretty bad for such an expensive game. Was joking when I said, "Bad haircut, Can't play", but I guess gamers take fashion very seriously.
@sargentd: "Last week, activist investor AJ Investments said it was working with other Ubisoft shareholders to push the company to sell itself to private equity firms or to Chinese gaming giant Tencent, which already holds a stake in the French game publisher".
Siiiiiiigh. I'm not a socialist, but we are getting capitalism wrong.
@sargentd: Private equity firms and China are not the answer.
Look, if a shareholder doesn't like how a company is run, they sell the stock. Lots of investors saw the writing on the wall, and that's why the share price is so low already. AJI wasn't as smart and missed the high point. Bummer, that's the risk you take when investing. Now they can either wait for Ubisoft to turn things around, or they can count their losses and move that money to AI or whatever. But no, they want instant gratification. Slightly more money right now. Bailed out by China, or some vulture capital firm that will borrow the money to purchase, put that debt in Ubisoft's name, wait for them to slowly bleed dry, and sell off the assets piece by piece.
If successful, I hope they go with China. Tencent does at least have some actual interest in making games.
@judaspete: to the contrary, it's capitalism doing exactly what it's supposed to. All Ubi had to do was make a product people wanted to buy.
Subscription services are conditioning consumers to spend less money less often. It’s counter productive to capitalism. Especially when games are more expensive to produce than ever. Publishers are seeing production costs going through the roof and profit margins falling through the basement. So we are seeing more remakes/remasters and cash grab games. The uncertainty of the market, whether it’s trying to get kids off Fortnite and Roblox, or trying to sift through the noise on social media to determine what people actually like (Hogwarts) and what is actually falling out of favor (Star Wars), trying to predict what will happen be the next big thing is more difficult than ever.
that's got to be very easy mode right. right?! </anakin-padme-meme>

In my head, hoping this is people waking up to their slop cookie cutter nature, but that would be giving gamers too much credit.
@sargentd: And how much is anyone really going to pay for Ubisoft right now?
Investors made a bet, it didn't pay off. Now they have to choice to ride out the storm, or bail. Shareholders who stay can demand Ubisoft make games staring bald white dudes and fappable chicks.
In Ubisoft's defense here, Black Flag AI seems to always know your exact location once you are spotted, whereas Outlaws AI focuses on where you were last seen if you duck back in the grass. The AI in Outlaws is more advanced, even though it make the game easier.

i think you're being generous.
maybe what you're saying is a result of, in the black flag clip, edward going in and out of the tall grass repeatedly, whereas kay remains in the tall grass. that may make a difference in how the ai responds.
but it still looks like in black flag, the enemy ai is quick, direct and can't be easily cheesed.
whereas in outlaws it's slow to respond, struggles to intuit from her location the areas of grass she's most likely to be in (enemies immediately stop firing as soon as she ducks), struggles to have enemies co-ordinate effectively to search for her (see tlou 2 for an example of just how good enemy ai can be in flanking and weeding you out collectively when hidden), and other enemies watch on without attacking as kay attacks individuals in full view.
difficulty level could well be a factor here and the outlaws clip has obviously been cherry picked so can't be taken as entirely representative of the quality of the game's ai. but it doesn't reflect well on outlaws, particularly given there's 10+ years difference between these games
Selling a million a few gens ago was a great achievement but gaming has become so mainstream that it's now considered a failure.

in the marketing, it also included inviting youtubers/influencer to disneyland, which they were calling "their biggest marketing campaign"
