I've been talking about it for 2 years now but I swear, I will be buying a sweet gaming PC in 2010 and this game is by far the #1 reason why. :D

Anyway, what you guys think of this and who here is planning on buying the game ?

Seems logical to me so I guess we can stop hoping for an actual stand alone Kotor 3.

The Story.

-----

So many people continue to wonder if development studio BioWare will ever deliver Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III. Well, I would've thought the answer to that is pretty damn obvious. Anyway, just to be clear on the matter, BioWare designer Christina Norman tweeted that a the company's upcoming MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, actually represents a new addition to the Knights of the Old Republic series.

Hm, it's a third game, and more, by the look of it.

He basically said this: "Kotor 3? Yes, it's called "The Old Republic" and it is KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8!"

Sucks for those of us who don't want to pay a subscription, team with others, or buy items from a microtransaction store, or deal with 12 year olds pvping us.

You can probably play it on a laptop, no reason buying a gaming PC for it. I don't mind the subscriptions playing WoW was so much fun..

Couldn't say it better my self. I would take KOTOR 3 on the consoles any other day because I am never going to pay $15 a month for a game.

I loved Kotor 1, and 2. But sadly I won't be getting this mmo. I just don't have the time (and money really) to invest in it. That; and I know the story isn't going to be near the quality of the first two.

Yep, Its still pains me to see it become an MMO because of the fact that i refuse to pay a subscription.

After many years I broke my addiction to WoW so I am not sure I want to get into another MMO.......but then again it is Bioware. Grr why does Bioware have to be so good they may suck me into another MMO.

Quite skeptikal, I sure hope the game is solid right out the box and has enough content to last. Paying subscription right of the bat doesnt sit well for me especially considering how MMOs only get polished/improved as time passes and patches/updates are applied. But then again it is Bioware, Star Wars and a persistent online world. but KOTOR 3-8 probably means there will be no more SP KOTOR games.

Ah didnt mean to put a downer on it, Im defintly biased when it comes to this genre.... AoC tried the whole convo/emmersive storytelling (and tbh looked better than ToRs...) but it did nothing for me in an MMO.... An MMO is suppose to be about the players and what effect the players have on the world as a large comminity, failing that it need it needs strong gameplay, a wide variety of things to do and an epic endgame.... something I dont see Bioware doing.... The only MMO im looking foward to this year is FF14, though ToR is 2011 :P

Disagree. I personally prefer the journey to the end game itself. Back when WoW lacked an end-game we had truly great progression content like Shadowfang Keep and Blackfathom Deep. Nowadays instances are just loot machines that have little story in them compared to the old stuff. I miss those days.

Yea ofcourse the journey has to be good, Im just not holding my breath due to the WoW-Virus =/, it took me ages to reach Level 60 PLD on FF11 and that was a community and an adventure all on its own. But the Endgame is still very important, which is again why im putting my eggs in the Square-Enix basket, since they dont make thier endgame content redundant with and expansion, and due to this they have one of the most varied end-games out there. That and this PvP & PvE focus just isnt working.... even with all of WoW's resources, im refreshed to see a PvE only game with 20 classes balanced around the PvE ... not butchered and changed every patch either messing up the PvE side of the PVP side. PvP in RPGs has never been that good imo.... too much whining, too many variables ... too much headache to be worthwhile..

This is not KOTOR 3 to me. I will refrain myself from playing this as I´m not really into the MMO thing anymore.

I shall wait for the real KOTOR 3,the single player experience...although that´s probably not happening.

I will pick it up as i enjoyed the first two and i enjoy the mmo formula (healer here). Gameplay won't actually change much for those single player guys who are worried because... well KoToR 1&2 played like mmo's.

Pixel-Pirate

The only valid complaint you have is with the fee, you can avoid pvp altogether, you can play the game by yourself (both comments confirmed by bioware) and I've never heard them say anything about microtransactions.

Hmm... excited for TOR, it definitely has a ton of potential and a great license to exploit.

One issue I have though, is "So many people continue to wonder if development studio BioWare will ever deliver Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III". Anyone paying attention knows that Obsidian made KOTOR II, so speculation about BioWare doing the third is completely out of left field, imo.

Because we all know how focused MMOs are when it comes to storyline:?GulliversTravel

Well, Warcraft has a very in-depth story, but from playing WoW, you almost learn nothing about it.

I pictured The Old Republic to be the same, but who knows?

Wow's story was going fine until dranei. The reason people don't know the story in WoW is because they refuse to read the quests or listen to the random convos the NPCs have. I personally read them, but that's because I like warcraft, I don't expect the majority to.

.... No major MMORPG has ever shown to be any where near to have the kind of narrative a single player rpg has.. So NO it is most certainly not KOTOR 3-8 you so ridiculously put.

If you say so.. WoW like the radical majority of mmos have a extremely passive story telling and you would get more information from skimming through the wiki site dedicated for it then you ever would from playing the radical majority of the game..

Because as I said its extremely passive and gives no reason to the viewer to pay attention, becuase the radical majority of the outcome will be the exact same.. Not to mention some 50 to 75% of the games quests involve generic minature story lines that have nothing really to do with the actual story.. Yeah I am sure that quest camp that was making fun of PETA was really idnepth about the universe of WoW..

... Except those supposed side quests were short and really didn't make up the majortiy of the game, like WoW does.. I believe off hand there are some dozen and a half, all of them being relatively short, and then the rest are main game quests.. I agree som what, but not in Mass Effect 2's case because that most certianly does not make up the main part of the game, like WoW does.

Wowwiki has much more info on the lore, zones, characters, etc than you would ever get just from playing the game.

You're comparing the main questing of WoW to the side quests of Mass Effect. I think the guy you're arguing with is talking about main story vs. main story. And WoW, while an awesome game, does a pretty poor job in the storytelling department.

I remember hearing Bioware say that The Old Republic has enough content/story/missions to be 9 KOTOR singleplayer games!!

They have already said they are focusing on the story for this MMO. Its Bioware after all and there first MMO, they look to change mmos as far as story goes.

Looks to be finally an MMO with a GREAT story!

Wow! So this is like when I asked for Warcraft 4 and got World of Warcraft.....which is Warcraft 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8! Great news BioWare! I'm sure your fans will love your decision to put all the important developments in the lore of your franchise in one of the least fulfilling games you've ever released.

This is not KOTOR 3 to me. I will refrain myself from playing this as I´m not really into the MMO thing anymore.

I shall wait for the real KOTOR 3,the single player experience...although that´s probably not happening.

this, even if bioware doesnt make kotor 3, maybe obssidian or other company will do, im not paying montly fees for something that i wanna enjoy for myself as single player game

I don't mind the fee or my lack of fondness for KOTOR -- will definitely be getting this and Guild Wars 2 in 2011

Loved the first 2 but i'm not to keen for a subscription game.

I am hoping they offer a lifetime subscription like they did with Star Trek. Sure it costs a lot but it's nice not having to ever pay payments.

I'm excited for this and Guild Wars 2. It's funny too, because I'm mostly uninterested in MMOs.

I loved playing KOTOR 1 and 2 and this seems a little sketchy to me, especially seeing as what SOE did to Star Wars Galaxies which was awesome Pre-CU, tolerable Pre-NGE and just plain craptastic crap NGE. I just hope it doesn't try to be something it isn't which I have a feeling it going to over promise and under perform. Hope I'm wrong.

Indeed, after obsidian´s excelent work in KOTOR 2,that would be a very nice idea.
