I guess the real quetion here is, when will Mac be it's own system? SC2 like many other PC "exclusive"titles are not only for windows but for Mac aswell. Does apple's platform have the right to be it's own system here on SW?

Why would the Mac be considered a separate platform considering it runs on the exact same hardware? It makes no real distinction for games.

it is PC exclusive its not Windows exclusive. whether a PC runs Mac OS, Windows or linux or whatever..its still a PC. Macs are just a different brand of PC like dell or HP. theres nothing remarkable or special about macs that seperate them from PCs. plonk windows on a mac and you have a windows PC. so no.....macs are not their own platform...there a type of PC.

This got me thinking. It is a little different, actually. Windows uses DirectX, while Mac uses OpenGL. As a result, Mac users get a different version of the game, which should probably be reviewed seperately, since they aren't as good (see Portal Mac vs Windows comparisons).

A Mac is a PC because they are both personal computers, is the same logic as:

A PS3 is a 360 because they are both game consoles.

HAHAHA...did you watch that video? First ad in that collection... What did the Apple paid advertisement use as a form of superiority, a review, what did that reviewer say? Finest Desktop PC at any price? What did Apple now just call the MAC? I will give you the solution but not the working out to this Assignment. PC.

MAC is a PC in many ways, so it might as well be declared one. Both have advantages and disadvantages. The MACs advantages are shown in that video.

Mac=Overpriced PC and with Apple using the same hardware as PC's the last few years ( unlike what it was doing with powerPC architecture before ) and the fact you can install Windows on a Mac it doesnt make MAC's a different Platform

I never said anything about running well or not, the fact is still there and these games will inevitably work on both systems (Mac, PC). Now if either has crappy hardware then the performance will vary of course.

No thats completely false, Apple is always very late upgrading to the latest video cards and CPU's and the charge 50% - 100% more for the same hardware. The best video card you can select on their website for a Mac Pro is a 4870 which is two and a half years old at this point. Pathetic.

On topic PC stands for personal computer which includes all operating systems.

I think the issue boils down to not whether or not Mac is a PC (it is), but rather the fact that games released for Mac and Windows are two different versions, and whther or not those different versions should be reviewed seperately. To me, the fact that they have different graphical and performance results means they should. Bayonetta or DA:O are the same game on ps3 or 360, but the different versions (at release) had technical differences resulting in different scores. If you look at any of the Mac vs Windows game comparisons that have popped up since Steam went live on Mac, it's pretty obvious that Mac vs Windows games are different in the same way, so should they not be reviewed seperately? And would that not make Mac OS a seperate gaming platform from Windows?

Side note: I think I've just talked myself into considering PC as a MS platform. Oh well, Windows/360 games are still multiplats. Just like Windows/Mac games.

Well GameSpot has never separately reviewed the Mac versions of any of Blizzard's games or any of the Linux versions of ID's games.

what........wait......huh.......when did a Macintrash become a PC? Just because they finally got smart and started using Intel chips? Dang it I guess they are basically the same thing inside. I can't accept it, a PC is an IBM clone, and a Mac, well a Mac is an overpriced pile of junk. But now that overpriced case is full of intel chips...dang I need to go lie down.. What's next the Sony Xbox....sheesh.

I've been in the industry too long....way too long. A Mac is a PC...throbbing in my head...throbbing...

just saying...

Why would I need or want to do that? For 80% of their games (stat made up on the spot and copyrighted by me), I can buy the exact same game on the other platform and vice versa.

BTW, congratulations on being able to install Windows on a Mac. I imagine if I really wanted to I could take my PS3 fat, gut all of its components, and then take all of my 360 components and 'install' them in my PS3 casing. Would I then have a PS3 capable of playing all the 360 exclusives? :)

Because that is what you are effectively saying. The difference between a Mac and a PC is the o/s.

Plus this topic is serious business :)

Yes the difference is the operating system and pc != windows. Traditionally when you say PC gaming you mean Windows, Mac, Linux, Amiga and every other personal computer that has had games.

No, lol. Mac will never be a gaming system. It's up there with the N-gage, the iphone and the PS3 in the "why would you buy this if you wanted to play games?!" category.

I assumed you where agreeing with the OP that platforms should be divided by OS and thus SC2 is not exclusive. This technically may be true but PC gaming has always meant gaming on computers regardless of operating system.

Actually thinking about it, the term PC exclusive is pretty weak since well a 10 year old computer is still a PC but yet it could not play 99% of games out today. Obviously if we went down that road system wars would fall apart pretty quickly xD just imagine how many comparion threads to do with different machines claiming to the best :P
