Right now with the exception of the Starcraft name on it, it's almostgeneric as any other RTS. Dont set yourself up for failure about a game that nobody really knows anything about.
It will most likely come out in 2008 and its direct competition will be Spore. 2008 is going to be a year where it won't matter what people bring to the table, it will be impossible to beat out those two games for the top spot award. I do think that Spore will take it quite easily over StarCraft II... that is... if it comes out in 2008... :?

yeah so the best selling and possibly the best RTS game ever, not to mention one of the best games ever won't have a solid sequel....

You never played StarCraft did you?
Hell, IM a Starcraft fanatic and ive eyed Blizzcon for the last 2 days but from what I saw from the recent terran demonstration im still far from impressed.

Hmm... I think you are one of the only StarCraft fans I know of that is not impressed of what is being shown. :P
I don't expect the sequel to live up to the original but I sure do expect it to be a fantastic, perfectly balanced RTS.

A solid sequel yes, Starcraft 2 looks to be heading that way since it retains Starcraft's gameplay and some pretty beautiful graphics (Bash it technically haters, dont bash it artistically) but living up to the original? That question is far from answered and yes im aware of Blizzard's great development team.

WoW's Blizzard first take on the MMO department and yes they did succeed despite some criticism here and there but making a game that is trying to live up to Starcraft's name is a whole different story.

Me? I honestly love Starcraft to death. People argue DoW's gameplay is superior but the squad-based nature isnt my cup of tea, people argue that Supreme Commander is the best RTS but it doesnt have the sense of speed that Starcraft is known for. I could go on and on but the only thing I want from Blizzard is to create the a game that lives up to the original, and if they succeed then I personally will view it as the greatest game ever.
Even though it will very likely be the best game and the one with the most value, during the year that it comes out, I have a feeling that it will just land a 9.0-9.5. I mean, WarCraft 3 was amazing and it didn't get that of an amazing score =(.

Starcraft's "Wow!" factor is still in effect even today believe it or not. There arent many RTS's with such memorable characters, three totally distinct races and to top it off a veryfast and balanced gameplay.
