PS3 Release Date: (US) 17th November, 2006 | (Japan) November 11th, 2006.
Xbox 60 Release Date: 22nd November, 2005.

6 Calendar Months Later, From Initial Launch (PS3 2007 - 25th May, 2007):

PS3: 3,447,213

6 Calendar Months Later, From Initial Launch (Xbox 360 - 26th May, 2006)
Xbox 360: 3,274,845

Over a 6 Month period, after launch the PS3 has won with 172,368 more units sold.

12 Calendar Months Later, From Initial Launch (PS3 2007 30th November, 2007)

PS3: 6,840,427

12 Calendar Months Later, From Initial Launch (Xbox 360 1st December, 2006)
Xbox 360: 6,234,797

Over a 12 Month period, after launch the PS3 has won with 605, 630 more units sold.

Now if we come to 2008, with this month's TOTAL figures they are:

#RECENT FIGURES
Xbox 360: 20,232,727 – As of August, 2008
PS3: 14,756,016 – As of August, 2008

That means that Microsoft has 27% more consoles sold in homes, but remember that it has a 1 year run on the PS3. In the same time period, November 2005 - August 2007, the Xbox 360 only managed to sell 11,027,825.

Over the same time period of one year and nine months, November 2006 - August 2008, the Playstation had sold 25% more consoles (See above recent figures).

Remember that the PS3 has sold 14,756,016 in one year and nine months and the Xbox 360 has sold 20,232,727 in two years and nine months. The Playstation has narrowed the gap, with a year less, to just 27% less consoles than the Xbox 360.

These are figures gathered from www.vgchartz.com All of these figures are based on the same timeline, I know the Xbox 360 is winning overall, but the figures show that with a year less it has outsold and caught up to it very rapidly.

P.S: I HAVE BOTH CONSOLES AND I LOVE THEM BOTH THE SAME! I just got tired of seeing Xbox fans saying they are outselling the PS3, so I thought I would do a little research.

To all those that might say, "The above 6 month and 12 month figures are out by a day." It's only a day this wouldn't of effected figures at all, plus VGChartz do their figure updates weekly.

It's when VGCHARTZ predicts things that they become inaccurate.

Looking at history makes them just as reliable as any other site, since they can sync their numbers with the NPD even.

Yet again, as I said before, this is in no way a flame at any console it is just showing the figures to shut the fanboys up saying stuff that is actually incorrect.

Assuming those numbers are accurate (which I'm sure you're right) since I'm too lazy to go research it myself, it really is pretty impressive when you think about it.

It's even more impressive that the PS3 did as well as it did in the beginning considering there was indeed a game drought which I can agree with. I even considered looking into buying some new PS2 games instead since I didn't have much to go on with the PS3 other than RR7 and Resistance. The fact that even with this lack of games it still sold at a better rate (and including the high price) is something to recognize.

Either way, this is System Wars and you're going to get some lame feedback that includes "vgcharts, :lol:", etc...

The number could be 100% fact or ROUGH guides from that site. If they are rough then so are my calculations, still meaning that they are correct. I doubt VGCharzts is so far out that my calculations are WRONG.

But I have gone to that site because a load of Fanboys of the Xbox say that they are outselling the PS3, so I used it.

Either way, do you think that 600,000 systems make that big a difference? Sony sold 120 mil last gen and Xbox sold 27 mil. So they have sold 600k more in 2 years?

I've just been working through the game on all difficulties, not really going for anything in specific other than gaining some special items.

I never tried getting Big Boss, but I've read about the requirements and just know I don't have the motivation to do that lol.

American has 60% of the Xbox 360's, where as the PS3 has been sold roughly the same percent around all of the world.MG_GEKKO

maybe for 360 owners, but sony has a long history of making consoles that can last 6 to 8 years. I guess lemmings like to spend hundreds on new consoles ever 4 years. To each his own.

Maybe you are bad at maths? but the whole point is that even if it is only 95% right then my stats would be 95% right too... Also what you are not getting is that Sony has cought up so fast with a year less O.o My figures show that if Sony were to keep selling more consols, like they have, then they will catch up. I aint too fuseed about the whole "Wars" and who sells more, but you have too look that with a year less Sony has narrowed the gap to just 27%.MG_GEKKO

Are you talking to me? Because I am not bad at "maths". I agreed with you earlier to some degree. It is not impressive by any means. Not in the least. The Wii is selling impressively. The other 2 are not.

Not a "lemming". There will be new consoles and you will want them. There is no stopping that. There is no need for outdated technology to be kept on life support when there are better systems out.

You keep your systems as long as you like. I will save my pennies for a couple years and get the new ****

I am not here about the Wii, I know that is SMASHING the competition of the others... I am here to clear up the little Xbox fanboys mistakes that the Xbox 360 is out selling the PS3.

why? Because Ps3 isnt leading.

But my friend alone has had to buy up to five new Xbox 360's, and I know others who have had to buy a new one when their warrenty runs out and they get RROD.

Mine also broke down with one Red Light, but it was in warrenty and Microsoft went out of their way to fix it. I got it back within 2 weeks with a free Months membership, so I aint bashing Microsoft :D

Well, they didn't. The majority of the PS3 sales came after the price dropped to $499 & $399 and after Warner Brothers decided to go with Blu-Ray format exclusively. After that happen PS3 sales surged. The first 9 months after the PS3 launch were dismal.

We don't even need VGChartz sales figures to know that the PS3 was starting to catch up to the Xbox 360 in hardware sales. We all knew this would happen because America game consoles usually don't sell that well in foreign countries. The 360 actually did pretty good in Europe prior to the PS3 and Wii being released. Seems to be doing better then the Xbox in the region. The 360 isn't doing great in Japan and never will.

If you actually read ANY of my post you would know that I know that the Wii is killing the PS3 and the Xbox 360. I also said that this post is to clear up the fanboys of the Xbox saying it is outselling the PS3.
