Yup Gamestop is making a section dedicated to some Steam machines, Steam controller and Steam link in their stores. Good move to try and market it. This is a big step up considering the best most gaming PCs get in terms of retail is being put in an overall tech store or general store like Best buy and Walmart.

So any EB Games Canada, Gamestop, and GAME UK will sell Steam hardware products. I wonder if Valve will do TV commercials.

I can't remember the last time I was in GAME. I'll head in and see it when the Steam Controller is released.

They had demos in Walmart? Videos or actual machines? I do know that Alienware Alpha has a booth in Walmart and it is basically the Windows version of the Alienware Steam Machine.

Well, Sony isn't in a questionable market position right now, so no not really.

People were poo pooing the steam machines, but a lot of them are a helluva good deal.. The Alienware Alpha I3 variant can be had onsale at times for as little as $380.. That is a full computer that is slightly larger than the wii, that is extremely quiet and out performs the PS4.. That is a amazing deal for a entry level system or a portable/htpc system.. This is coming from some one who builds pc's, and would never recommend prebuilts.. Something like the Alpha just can't be done at this time with the kind of size, price and performance it has.. To me this is gold, you can get a computer for $380, that is highly portable and can play every pc game out there at high to max settings outside of a handful, even then medium is the lowest at 1080p for these games (like Witcher 3).. That and it is completely backwards compatible so you get access to basically every pc game for the past 15 years more or less at least..

I just don't find Steam machines that intriguing.

I like picking the parts and having a big ass bulky tower with lights and a plastic see-through side.

@lawlessx: Well, there have been a lot of articles in the past referencing shareholders and board members being disconcerted with the XBox business not driving share value. That was before the market position loss of the past couple of years.

There is definitely an exposure to this sentiment calling for Microsoft to sell off the XBox business if things continue to be rocky for it.

The support for Linux games is continually growing, sure it isn't enough to ditch windows but is becoming enough to be worth a dual boot. Plus it is free. Steam machines on the other hand can flop, I expect only the cheapest and best price to performance ones to sell.

What about Steam controllers do you think it will flop? I need to see how they handle shooters and some MMOs before I buy one.

I still can't play the Witcher 3 in Steam OS or any of my classic GOG.com games on it, so keep dreaming of a utopia because it will never come true.

Also, the Steam Machine is the 3D0 2.0

Every time I hear steam machine I think....why? Manufacturers making these might as well give me their money because they are simply burning it.

CD Projekt already confirmed Witcher 3 and GOG Galaxy for Linux they're most likely using the time to properly port the game to linux and have it be a launch title for Steam machines. I don't know what classics you own but it still doesn't change the growing linux support of future and modern titles, this is way more support than WiiU is getting. Once SteamOS officially launches we will have to see how things go down a year from now instead of just speculating. I'm not expecting a utopia any time soon but I do expect a growth in linux gaming and removing dependence on microsoft and valve has helped boost it.

As a first PC, you couldn't do much worse than this one and you should be educating people about that instead of advocating underperforming dross like this stuff.

So you're encouraging people to buy a really shit PC.

For the price your basically paying $390 to $400 to get access to every pc game out there..

It already struggles with some games unless you lower settings.

Some games? It maxes out the majority of games on the pc to begin with.. Sorry to break it to you, but the majority of great pc titles out there do not require a powerful machine to even run.. Hence why I said this is a great portable or entry level machine..

Already it is the opposite to what PC gaming is all about.

Really? Because as a pc gamer for 20 years I thought pc gaming was about FREEDOM in which you can decide how much to spend and what you want to do with it.. You don't need to spend a grand to enjoy pc gaming to it's fullest, but you can.. That is the great thing about it.. Hence why I said it's a great entry level/lan system.. Maybe if you if you got your head out of your butt you would see that..

As a first PC, you couldn't do much worse than this one and you should be educating people about that instead of advocating underperforming dross like this stuff.

Except you can't build a machine currently at that size, at that performance for that price.... And **** yeah you could do a lot worse, this machine is well put together compared to the majority of premades with imbalanced specs (such as a I7 but with a very basic video card in it)..

So damn right I would recommend this system to a person who doesn't know much about pc gaming as a great entry level system before you decide to build one.. Even when you build one, this thing isn't much bigger than a wii and is easily portable so it will be useful for years on end.. I know because I actually OWN one as a counterpart with my desktop (a 970 gtx, 2500k at 4.4ghz), and I go back in fourth between the systems in playing it.. If anything the system has blown away my expectations in what I was able to play the system at with the performance settings I got at 1080p.. Perhapes it is use sir that really needs to take a hard look in what computer gaming is all about.. Because to most it is freedom.. What your basically talking about is the AAA budgeted games that make up a small % of pc gaming in general..

Yes, I agree! The hypocrisy for Valve fanboys is that MS is trying to turn PC gaming into console gaming with Xbox, while they're blind themselves that Valve is the one trying to force console gaming on to the PC. But it's Gaben, so therefore it's gonna blowup and sell!

Only problem is that Gamespot is right now the only exclusive carrier to hold Steam Machines, and so that sparks a lot of trouble for the future of SteamOS and their shitty ecosystem.

I hear they're gonna give 'em away in McDonalds Happy Meals too, served with a side of fries and a blank floppy disk representing the failure of Star Citizen.

Gabben needs to step his flabby ass up in the Star Citizen situation and donate half a bill or so to help keep his archaic platform viable.

I have no idea what you're on mate, but The Steam Machine concept is more like The Commodore 64 concept because IT'S A PC!

Like I said, Steam Machines you can buy one and then Install Windows and BOOM you have a way better OS that can play WAY MORE GAMES than Steam OS and you can still use Steam Big Picture mode and such.

What the Hell is the point of trying to call it a console when it clearly ain't?

Forcing as in having a completely free, completely open source and optional OS? You do realize that the Steam machine for instance can have Windows on it? Mine has Windows 10 on it.. What exactly is being forced here? Absolutely nothing.. If you seriously think the Steam OS turns a computer into a console, then you really have no idea what your talking about..
