Source: Gameinformer

Electronic Arts recently posted a list of digital retailers that would be carrying Battlefield 3, but the link now directs to an error page. Before it was taken down, Joystiq reports that Steam was absent from the list.

EA's Origin service was the first mentioned, but others such as Direct2Drive and GamersGate were also included. Whether or not Battlefield 3 will be coming to Valve's service is up in the air, but we expect EA to comment on the situation soon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts on this? I think EA would be foolish to limit BF3 to their service only, but who knows - maybe they feel this is a good idea to promote Origin. However, after Crysis 2 was pulled from the Steam store, I'm not sure I'd be surprised if BF3 was also not available.

I don't care, but they listed other DD services, just not Steam. So I don't think it will be Origin only.

Meh. I wouldn't really care. I'd just get it off of Gamersgate if that happened.

It's not like it's a origins exclusive. Obviously Valve and EA can't get along.

I'm sure valve is upset about the missed revenue, but they are sticking to their guns.

Well that's weak, I usually really like steam's services so I hope it would just come out for it and valve/ea could stop being dumb about this.

I planned on waiting till Newegg sends out a e-mail promotion, knocking off $10-12 from the price a few weeks before release anyway which they do for practically any game that they think will sell.

Then I buy it from Origins, or retail, or D2D or.. options. Steam isn't the only option, so I don't really care if Steam is missing this one. Battlefield is big enough franchise to be successful without Steam.

Sounds like a whole lot of EA interference here. EA is going to great lengths to **** this up on PC. Only because of the experience BF2 gave me will I be buying DLC for BF3. EA's clearly tryin to turn a great game on it's back and trying to turn it into another Call of Duty. EA is so dead set on outdoing Call of Duty, they're forgetting that profit is profit at the end of the day as long as you make a original game that people can enjoy. But that's logic from the gamer perspective, logic from the business perspective is what they can do to push profit margins up. I feel if EA keeps Steam from selling BF3 on Day-1, they will definitely damage PC sales. EA is gonna have to learn the hard way that gamers DO NOT WANT publisher-specific game clients. We DO NOT WANT to segment our games with petty third party software. I personally will only buy a game either retail, from steam, or a non-client distributor. IF on the off-chance ORIGIN became successful, it'll be the downfall of PC gaming. We will see many publishers have their own spawns of it and end up ONLY using retail and their own DD clients to sell games. I'm not trying to segment my game library with crap software. The only competition Steam needs is from other non-affiliated DD companies, not from publishers.

No. I'm saying why do people only want to buy off of Steam? Off the top of my head my last two purchases not from Steam were cheaper than Steams summer sale. I bought Civ 5 from gamersgate for 10.50 then 2 days later Steam had it on sale for 25 and I saw it was the second highest selling game that day lol. I also bought New Vegas off direct2drive for 11 dollars last month while people paid 15 for it on Steam.

There are always deals, but people have this blind loyalty to Steam and it baffles me.

Because it's much more comfortable to have all the library organized in one place. Because it's better when you know when/what your friends are playing and quickly join.

Just add non steam game to your list. I have no problems playing with my friend Crysis 2 and ACB when one of us have the steam version and the other one retail. Doesn't bother me though, people can skip BF3 if they want. I already pre ordered it for 45 from D2D months ago :)

Pretty bad comparison. Reasons why someone may want to buy a multiplats on a certain console can be friends, online community preference, controller preference, possible exclusive content, may want to get their gamerscore/trophy score higher.

Where on PC for example my Steam ACB is the same as my friends retail ACB.

Steam without sales is actually very expensive...Amazon is much cheaper. I havent brought a new game on steam at full price for years!

The reason why I hate origin's style of dd is because they are limited to only the games of certain publisher. I hate installing all kind of crap just to play my games. Imagine if every other publisher did the same thing EA is doing then you just can't keep up with that anymore. You want to buy Assassin's creed? Launch it from the Ubisoft's dd service. GTA5? Launch it from R* dd service and so on. Later they might remove their games from steam like EA is doing and you end up with an extremely fragmented market. Why I love steam is because they have every game there not only Valve's games.
