SteamSpy: Steam sales tracker tool (aproximated)

So a pretty cool site i found while browsing GAF and wanted to share on SW. SteamSpy is a site that uses an algorithm to calculate the amount of owners, players, play time, etc, from the Steam database. The process is similar to the used in the ars technica article.

It even gives you details on the geography of each title by country.

However, keep in mind that there's always a margin of error. Under the amount of owners/players, there'll a +/- xxxxxxx value. This refers to the margin of error. In some cases, it'll be simply wrong, has the algorithm doesn't take private profiles into account. More here http://steamspy.com/about

Regardless, it seems that its relatively accurate., since H1Z1 just sold 1 million, and SS gives you 950k with 50k margin Really interesting info here, from the high 5 million sales of Borderlands 2 to the low 300k sales of DMC 4 (weird).

Once again, remember that not all data is correct. (DA Origins only at 500K ?)

Would seem like it. Regardless I can easily see GTA5 pull another 5-10 million (in the long run) on PC to add to the 45+ million it already has. It will go down as one of the best selling games of all time, that's for sure.

The site takes information from steam users not all of them but its pretty good information. I notice the numbers are different compared what steam guage reported.

@lostrib: Yeah, good performance will definitely be a plus. Hopefully R* won't make the same mistake twice. Plus, considering how much bigger Steam is right now versus 2008 + general hype still surrounding the game (the Heists while super, super late gave it a 2nd life it seems) I have feeling it'll outsell GTA4 with some ease.

Also, yeah the modding side of it will be very important. Not as much as it is in the case of Skyrim since this game has online, but a healthy mod community will bring it some extra sales.

According to this, Insurgency has 1.6 Million owners which is kind of cool. While advanced warfare is less than a million going by SP numbers (the MP numbers are off from a free weekend not too long ago)

GTA 4 also had a non steam version.

Oh yeah, I've seen Giantbomb play it for a bit, but I'd rather experience it on my own rather than watching someone do, and eventually playing it myself.

Arstechnia estimated numbers for certain games sold in 2014 appear much higher compared to overall sales steamspy has recorded. Looks like the algorithm they are using are quite different.

Everything shown in that site is a lie. PC users don't buy their games; they only pirate it. That's what Ubishit told me.

Seriously, if they sell their games on 75% like those Payday and Killing Floor once every six month, I believe a lot of PC players will buy it.

This also doesn't count the people who buy games and never play them.

They have to launch the game once for it to show up.

The site creator also made an account on GAF and said it himself that sales bellow 30k are usually wrong. Also, free weekends and bundles can skew the results.

So even if I install it, the sale won't count till I launch it? Welp guess I 3/4th of my Steam library isn't registered as sales :P

It requires uplay, and runs through uplay, regardless of where you buy it
