It’s been a while since I’ve done a rant, which means a lot of rage has built up. I’m going to deliver it to you right now in the form of a reality check on the state of the gaming industry. It’s gotten to such a bad state in the past few years I’ve just avoided talking or thinking about it and happily played my games. Iwata was right in 2000-2004 about graphics not being important. In 2015 he’s still right. He’s been right every time he’s opened his mouth and prophetised games declining in value (aka the end of the world) which IS NOW UPON US.

Nobody listened and Nintendo has been forced to shake hands with the devil. It’s sink or swim in this industry infested with HD remakes, revenue models disguised as games, and absolute garbage on the grandest scale with huge development teams spending big money to make sure nobody has control over their game experience. With money thrown at awful “cinematic experiences” and racing games that don’t even have basic modes like multiplayer and replays, we are witnessing gameplay being gutted from games in front of our very eyes. Publishers are so determined to make shitty games we’ve seen dozens of studio closures and layoffs as developers go down swinging in a blaze of unpatched glory. Rockstar spent an entire year making GTAV a second time. Games like Borderlands and Batman are being resold to the same audience with no gameplay improvements. Assassin’s Creed has an entire nation of people working on it and still needs a 40GB patch to function, despite the best programming efforts of their genius development babies.

WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON?

When did all this shit become

NORMAL?

What are gamers doing with themselves today? Going by the raw data on what is selling, we are buying PS4’s with no games and staring at them. Then going to work and sharing our stories of not playing the PS4 on social media. As a collective, we’re all fucking doing nothing and paying money for the privilege.

People are becoming too stupid to make choices for themselves and accept every garbage game handed to them by publishers, because that’s all the respect they have. That’s all there is, right? Despite being more connected than ever, we are STILL finding ways to ignore great games. How the **** The Wonderful 101 did not find an audience is still one of the biggest mysteries of the past few years to me. People are so hungry for gameplay in this dire High High Def world we saw Kotaku creaming over a fanmade Mario 64 HD demo with stolen assets. Gee, IF ONLY there was a 3D Mario game in HD we could play instead. Imagine if a BIG TEAM made a full blown Mario game! Yes I have used this argument before but it needs drilling into people’s heads. Just look at the fucking picture and tell me why you’re not playing this.

What else do we have, Dragon Quest 7 for the west? No, westerners don’t want this million selling game. iOS users who haven’t the slightest **** for gaming history? They would love to play a butchered DQ8 that crashes every 10 minutes. Square-Enix, you’re fucked.

Nobody liked Resident Evil 6? It didn’t meet sales expectations despite selling millions of copies? Oh well, the 3DS game was well received, so let’s make a sequel to THAT and we’ll make up all our lost profits! What do the 3DS sales tell us? Obviously that people want episodic content on completely different systems. Capcom, you’re fucked.

Konami is already fucking dead and not even worth talking about. They own a set of gyms as their primary business. They sold a $40 demo to the world. Konami, you’re doing great.

Meanwhile journalism standards are lower than ever, Youtubers are demanding money for narrating their own cognitive failures, and Tweeters are creating brand new social issues to be outraged over every day.

What the **** happened to everyone? Would this all be happening if we were all playing Nintendo games instead? Literally nobody on my Wii U has played enough Tropical Freeze for me to compare leaderboard times with. Nobody is posting Game & Wario sketch ideas on the Miiverse. There are not enough people playing Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros every day. Nobody gives the slightest **** about the new Mario vs Donkey Kong, with level sharing and crossbuy everybody asked for.

All this FUCKING SHIT is going on while Wii U is the lowest selling modern console, and sits on the shelf with amazing games. The Wonderful 101 is the best action game ever made, it’s not even questionable if you’ve played it. Pikmin 3 is an absolute work of art. Tropical Freeze is the best platformer ever made, Mario Kart 8 the best racer BY A LONG SHOT. Every Metroid game is playable on Wii U except Metroid II which is on the 3DS. Content is not the issue with this system, it’s quite simply the ignorance and stubbornness of gamers and gaming journalist’s failure to communicate. Nintendo’s games are the best they’ve ever been, and you can see that as rampant fanboyism, but the complete apathy and ignorance from the other side of the coin is the only thing that’s hurting us.

This article is pure rage with the highest degree of exaggeration I could muster, and I could not give the slightest **** because I’m not one of the people responsible for failing the gaming industry. If you’re one of those people who calls themselves a gamer and does not own a Wii U, Nintendo is the solution to your stale life. Put down Fifa and think a little harder about what makes sport interesting. Stop pretending Dark Souls is the only difficult game because it has a big sign saying “I’m difficult”. Stop watching reruns of The Walking Dead and try to create a feeling of intensity you are a part of. Do not buy the next Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed, they were never good. Switch your smartphone off, forever. Burn your Amiibo collection and buy eShop gems like Mario Vs Donkey Kong, Boxboy and Affordable Space Adventures instead of the next Amiibo wave. Cancel your fucking Netflix and pick the controller back up. Let’s get gaming back on track.

http://pietriots.com/2015/04/10/gamers-stop-being-shit-and-buy-a-wii-u/

Not saying I read all of that but you know, Nintendo stuff.

You can use both options, but there are controller restrictions for both options.

I'm quite happy with my PS4/Vita combo at the moment. As much as I like Zelda and Mario platformers, Nintendos stupid policy of not making a console with even decent hardware and alienating 3rd party support finally made me abandon them.

I was pretty hyped for the Wii U back in the days, finally Nintedo would make a HD console, but it was too late. PS4 and Xbone were just around the corner, with real next-gen HW in them. I wanted a real next-gen experience so I got a PS4, best money I've spent in a long time. Still got a 3DS though and I've enjoyed the **** out of it, but I don't know if I'll get the new model anymore.

That's not officially supported.

Yeah. I was reading now into it, says a homebrew application works to play GC games on WiiU. But have to use it at own risk, might void warranty of the system. I'll avoid that :)

Well, people go on and on about how Nintendo makes superior games to everyone else and yadda yadda yadda. What I see is a company remaking the same few games over and over again on outdated tech.

lol

A company remaking the same few games over and over again on outdated tech seems applicable to any console. At least on the Wii-U the games aren't all being outclassed on PC or so generic that they are lost in a sea of identical modern games.

People already played Mario and Zelda 30 years ago. They need to move on ... or at least expand.

I mean, the article isn't technically wrong, my it is guilty of gross generalizations, and I can never support that, no matter what.

That said, I agree with the general notion that Nintendo is the very antithesis of western AAA gaming (that more and more gamers seem to be increasingly crying out against).

My favorite console of the gen so far... though I probably played it for less than 10 hours this year, so that's not saying much.

It's always so corny when Nintendo perverts try and act tough and stomp their feet talking about Mario Kart and Pokemon.

WiiU is trash. Tech from 2005. Games from 1994. If you bought a WiiU it doesn't make you a "real gamer" anymore then playing with Barbie Dolls makes you a real man.

That was actually pretty funny and quite enjoyable to read. The author did a good job at some aggressive writing. I particularly like the quote toward the end (which judging by some of the comments in this thread, they seemed to have missed that the author is obviously exaggerating for dramatic effect):

This article is pure rage with the highest degree of exaggeration I could muster, and I could not give the slightest **** because I’m not one of the people responsible for failing the gaming industry.

I have a little rant of my own in response to this sheep (not you Clyde46).

I'm sick and tired of Nintendo fans arrogantly presuming the tastes they hold in games to be an objective given in an entirely subjectively driven medium and then act bewildered, frustrated, and even offended when the market doesn't respond in kind as if we should be obligated to embrace Nintendo's fruits as the ultimate gift from the Gods and bow our heads in worship. Not forgetting in the process to deride what everyone else enjoys as "awful cinematic experiences" and asininely claiming games like Batman come out with "no gameplay improvements" sold to the same audience, and that those who choose other venues other than Nintendo to our gaming entertainment relegates us to unworthy, sub-IQ mainstream idiots. The only idiot here is this douchebag who's fooling himself into such a delusion.

"Nobody listened and Nintendo's been forced to shake hands with the devil."

Oh, **** off. Perhaps not many are listening because not many are interested or are getting tired of what Nintendo's selling and Nintendo continues to sit there with its ears closed still unwilling to care? Maybe people are fed up with their actions, attitudes, and philosophies? A company has to adapt to the times, it can't dictate it as Nintendo arrogantly believes. There is no mandate out there that people must find what Nintendo does appealing, nor is there any measurement on someone's enjoyment.

This is exactly what I knew what would happen: Nintendo insists on a very niche, core Nintendo game library, and their overall approach to gaming is largely antithetical to what many people value today: "screw online, screw third parties, screw the west, we do what we want, you guys deal with our anti-consumer 2004 online account policies, deal with our shitty VC drip feed output, enjoy our archaic decisions, and here's another excuse to hold our droughts of 30 year old IPs over......." (etc, etc). Consumers respond in kind saying they'll no longer stand for any of these things in this day and age, rightfully so. Yes, what are these people thinking? Don't we realize Nintendo knows better? Why can't we just support them acting like complete incompetent asshats stuck two decades in the past in everything they do and let them reap the rewards for such an incredible level of mediocrity in comparison to industry standards?

Yea man, I mean........WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON?

I'll tell you what's going on and when this became "normal". It's been normal for people YEARS ago who haven't had their heads stuck up between Nintendo's cheeks and instead decide to hold them accountable to change instead of continually apologizing for every antiquated and moronic decision they make, and then turning around and blaming "The dudebro and their poor CoD tastes" and crappy business tactics elsewhere in the industry when Nintendo continues to suffer without even considering they need to remove their head from the darkness and take a look at where the real problem resides: Nintendo. That is normal and is what (the majority of) people are doing/have done, and I'm glad to see it. The only abnormality going on here stems from those who would write such a dumb rant that seems wholly oblivious to what is explicitly apparent to everyone else who doesn't have Nintendo love goggles on and attributes all of their current problems to a simple matter of peoples' "poor" taste, as if this subjectivism can be held as any sort of evidence at all.

How can people act as if Nintendo's doing everything right and blame everyone else for their position? Anyone with a degree of objectivity, context, and history of the industry can easily understand why Nintendo is presently in the spot they are. They have been forced to do nothing but be directed down the path that their insistent stubbornness, insularity, and incompetence throughout the years has built for them.

....

*whew* That's been building up for a while as well.

lol

Why would I buy a console that has only ONE exclusive that interests me (Bayonetta 2), is very close of being abandoned by Nintendo completely and praticaly no multiplats?

That article is garbage and clearly written by a Nintendo fantard. I'm actually pretty p*ssed at Sony for the lack of proper exclusives aswell but the "has no games to play" mantra is bullshit of the highest grade. Its actually the console with the most current available games on it, way more than the WiiU, a console that has been one year longer on the market...

yeah, lets all pretend the third party support isnt an issue on the WiiU, that only exclusives count... /sarcasm

Lets all pretend its not the multiplat games we all play anyway...

/my rant

PS: Oh and btw, the WiiU number of high scoring exclusives is being overestimated trough heavens. On meta it has only 2 proper exclusives above 90 (Bayonetta 2 and SM 3D World). Yeah, prett great for a console 2 and a half years on the market. The WiiU is only looking good in comparison with the other two, exclusives wise. Its lineup would actually be pretty pathetic otherwise

Holy crap, now that was a rant.

Why are gamers complaining about the WiiU but they didn't care when Wii didn't get third party or got some real gimped ports?

facts are facts you couldn't have survived with just a wii last gen

wiiU is the same exact thing why did gamers abandon it this gen when last gen they were fine with not gettin third party

the wii was a barren wasteland for third party every gamer had a diff system with it an thats just a fact i dunno why those same gamers compalin about wiiU

its portable its backward compatible with the wii all ur wii games work on it u can play wii games in ur bed with it thats a ton of next gen

@MirkoS77: this is truly excellent.

Also: I am far far from a so called "dudebro" gamer (a frankly pathetic, stupid term used by dullards to describe people who choose to play different games than them). I don't buy yearly updates of CoD/Battlefield or sports games. Yet Nintendo misses out on all my favourites. Western RPGs? None. At either end of the scale. No Elder Scrolls, no From Software. No Witcher 3. I also enjoy action adventure games particularly the rockstar variety. And what do you know? No Red Dead. No GTA. No Final Fantasy XV. No Batman. These are all going to be great games, worth playing.

Sheep act like Nintendo franchises are objectively wonderous and cannot be ignored, but they are simply not my cup of tea and I'm not nearly in a minority. I played Mario Kart decades back. 2D Mario earlier than that. Kart racing games are, to my mind and many others, in no way worth getting over excited about. The fact is, I have very few reasons to buy a wii u and it is far behind PS4, Xbox One and mostly PC in priority. I owe Nintendo nothing, and likewise, they owe me nothing. But if they want my custom a few childish, whinging fans crying about it isn't going to persuade me. Games I want to play are. Ultimately, that is what is important for any fan not coloured by slavish brand loyalty.

twitch is ognna light up once those wiiU games come out every gamer is gonna eb playing them so don't act like u can easily miss these must have titles u can't i tried u just can't do it

@ProtossX: I am more than happy to miss out on zeldaU, the only one confirmed, or the others. (Metroid not even hinted at). You're not listening. Nintendo games, and the mushroom kingdom, do not interest me. They do not fill me with nostalgia, and I do not ring fence them for criticism or act like the fact that they are so "distinguished" means they are above the same criticism every other game gets. Lots of people around here do, they don't like listening to differences of opinion or home truths. Well tough.

Starfox was an impressive game on the snes for its time but has there been a game since that is a "classic"? I had the one on GC, it was boring.

NSMB? Underwhelming 2D platformers, honestly, listen to yourself. This is what I'm talking about. These games do not appeal to me, even among other 2D platformers I do not think they are special.

All you have seen of zelda U has been a few screens. That's it. That's enough for you and others to proclaim that it can't be missed. Bollocks. It was the same with skyward sword, a game supremely unadventurous and behind the times. Zelda is a series I might purchase if it is on a console I own, but absolutely not a single game I would buy a console for. And even then, a lot of them are underwhelming, because it's been done and Nintendo refuses to let the series evolve.

I can easily miss out on every single Nintendo game, and do, like most of the gamers considering the sales of the wii u. We choose to miss out on them because we can, and in many cases, because we do not even like the games we are supposedly missing out on.

no there is a huge fanbase of NINTENDO only gamers who bought the wii but now are fed up with the wiiU cuz it didn't get resident evil or a gimped call of duty or whatever

some of those nintendo only gamers are the ones bitching about the wiiU some on here sold theres an switched to ps4 cuz they were mad about resident evil remaster an crap like that

they need to buckle down and stick with nintendo in sickness and wealth you gotta roll witht he punches ok so you missed out on a few games just roll with in an maybe ninty will make some deals on the next games imo u don't just take your ball and leave thats just lame imo

There is one game on WiiU I'd really, really, really like to play and that's Bayonetta 2. I loved the first one but as much as it pains me to miss out on it entirely I ain't gonna buy a console because of one game.

@ProtossX: The real idiocy is assuming that any gamer should stick to one console or trade it, when in fact, most gamers own more than one console in their lifetime.

Yea, I don't really play any of the games that would fall under the dudebro moniker myself (I find it a stupid term as well), yet even absent that software Nintendo's still standing in great competition. I suppose those games just lend themselves to the stereotype the best. It's bullshit to attempt to broadly paint an entire industry and demographic under such a term and then attempt to assign fault to it in explaining Nintendo's failures. If you viewed their performance in a vacuum, they'd still be presiding over a declining business.

But yea, Nintendo and its fans have to understand not everyone is into Nintendo games or IPs. Their games just don't hold the power they once did, and they still believe they do. It's going to hurt them.

@Wickerman777: heh, you should've seen the unedited, original version. I write drafts and then before posting heavily tone them down. My final is timid in comparison.

yeah, the PS4 is slowly getting to the point where it'll be worth it. With Bloodborne out now and Batman Arkham Knight coming soon, it should get a lot more of my time.

As it stands though, it's Wii U that has the high quality, meaty gaming experiences.

-I've put in over 100 hours into Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and there is still so much to do

-I've put in over 70 hours into Pikmin 3 and there's easily enough content to break well beyond the 100 hour mark

-I've played over 40 hours of Bayonetta 2 and I've just scratched the surface at this point

-I've played over 90 hours of Super Mario 3D World and am reaching the very end of it

-I've played countless ours of Smash Bros. for Wii U and I foresee countless more hours being logged.

Honestly, I'm swamped with the one console. So much so, that it's all I need right now.

Wait a minute, 40 hours into Bayonetta 2 and you've barely scratched the surface? That can't be. To 100% achievements (Something I almost never do) in the first Bayonetta I played through it 3 times and don't know if I got passed 40 hours. Maybe I did but it couldn't have been by too much of a margin.

It makes perfect sense unless your comprehension is poor, and was shorter than the original article. I suppose I just assume a few paragraphs won't tax people past their willingness to bother, but I don't tl;dr for the lazy.

People are missing out. Nintendo is putting out the quality. One area that gets overlooked is the music. Holycow they have been knocking it out of the park.
