PC gaming has it's perks. Of that there is no doubt. But it also has more than its fair share of quirks and annoyances. Many PC gamers will be quick to provide a solution to any problem with PC gaming that might be brought up. But oftentimes these "solutions" present more problems that they solve.

It's time to address the redundant equivocations constantly brought up by PC gaming enthusiasts:

"It's no big deal building your own PC"

I'm sorry but this is a bogus argument that could be applied to anything. What if you went to the store to buy a T-Shirt and on the way to the cashier, somone stopped you and said "hey don't buy that shirt! Just buy a loom and weave your own shirt!". Or the same could be applied to your car, or your house or literaly any product. See for some people it isn't a big deal to build their own PC; the other 99.9% of the population has no need or desire to build one. Most people wouldn't even consider it. Someone who's adept at building gaming PC's might be able to slap one together in 10 minutes. For somone else it could take days. A console works right out the box. Go to the store buy the console. Done. No finding deals for parts on new egg waiting for them to ship then building the damn thing. That takes time and time is money. I'm not even going to talk about incompatability issues, OS issues driver issues because somone will try and say it's comarable to console patch updates. It's not. Not even close. But even in ignoring that hassle the idea that constructiong your own computer is a simple and viable solution for all people is disingenuous.

"You can hook your PC up to a TV"

That's true. I'm using my TV as a monitor right now. But many people don't want to have a wireless keyboard and mouse (plus whatever kind of surface) strewn about their livingroom. You need the mouse to launch games and buying a lapdesk or motion controlled mouse is simply another expense and another inconvienence.

"Mouse and Keyboard is better then controller"

That's opinion but there is no doubt about this: Gaming with a mouse and keyboard laying back on your couch is pretty uncomfortable. Laying on your back on your bed? Forget it. With a controller you can play sitting up in a chair. On your couch or lying in bed. Can't do that with M/KB.

"The PC can use any controller"

Some games offer 360 controller support. A lot of them don't, and using a hack or mod or having to map your buttons on an aplication like Xpadder is an inconvienence. Again, a reoccurring theme.

Ignoring other reasons why people might prefer console gaming over PC gaming, (the tons of great games that simply arent avaiable on PC for starters) PC gaming enthusiasts should acknowledge that many people have valid reasons for prefering consoles. It's not that we're ignorant or brainwased by "the man". The fact is that video gaming on a console is significantly more convenient and easier than it is on PC. And that's significant because for the most part gaming is a leisurely activity. Entertainment. And people want their entertainment to be as stress and hassle free as possible.

The only valid point the TC has is it is hard to build your own pc. Well go to youtube and watch a video or two problem solved or even go to newegg and watch one or any of the hundred or so popular pc sites. So it is not that you can't do it maybe your to lazy or slow of mind to do it. Kind of like people who pay a shop to change their cars oil when they can easily do it themselves. Don't like kbam use a 360 or ps3 controller then problem solved both are wireless. Hook up your pc to your hdtv with hdmi sit in your bed and play wow that was really hard. It is so hard to map buttons to your gaming pad please special ed is not what it used to be these days I guess.

I agree console gaming is more convenient on the whole, although inferior in almost every other way, however it doesn't really need to be if you know what you are doing.

The counter argument often used when people complain about the price of PC gaming is that it's cheap when you build your own. Yeah one could buy an alienware computer or another brand but they are expensive as hell compared to an X-Box 360 or PS3.

I didn't make the arguement that the proper way is to play on a couch desk bed or chair, just that with a contoller you can play in all of these places. M/KB you cannot.

I've been building PC since the 80s and nowadays, I tend to play predominantly on consoles because of the convenience factor. Sure I could find deals on pc parts on newegg or craigslist to build my own. But now it's just taking time to research, time to wait for all the parts to get shipped, then the time to put it together. Or... I could just buy a console and hook it up, then be playing within 2 minutes.

Maybe I could just buy a pre-built gaming rig. But now we're running into a financial inconvenience. Or... I could just buy a console for as little as 200 USD.

I won't be able to run as high resolutions on a console and I won't have kb/m support for most shooters, and I won't have access to most user mods or be able to customize as much as I could on a PC. But I think it's a reasonable trade-off. I'm still able to enjoy plenty of games.

PC gamers just have to drop their elitist attitudes. And console gamers need to stop being so defensive. At the end of the day, it's entertainment, not a holy war.

"Mouse and Keyboard is better then controller"

That's opinion but there is no doubt about this

Pray_to_me

The proposal, part of Microsoft's LIVE push, popped up "many many months ago", and would have allowed people playing games available on both PC and 360 – like Gears of War – to take each other on. Kind of like 2007 shooter Shadowrun, only people would actually play it.

Problems quickly arose in testing, however, when Microsoft found that even the best console gamers simply couldn't compete with the accuracy a mouse and keyboard afforded a PC player. "The console players got destroyed every time", Sood says. "So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative."

Sorry, not all good things in life are handed to you on a silver platter.

It's like saying building your own model airplanes and whatnot is an inconvenience to buying them at the toy store. If you're passionate enough, you'll see it through irregardless of any consequences.

Any gamer, who has the time, money and patience will naturally gravitate towards getting the best experience they can with gaming, warts and all.

It's easier and quicker to game on a console, which is a fact. Now, whether you consider gaming on a PC an inconvenience depends on how patient you are.

Most PCs are mobile devices i.e. laptops. Within the manufacturing limitations, AMD has record sales with thier AMD Llano APUs. With GoFlo'a New York Fab coming online, AMD will have additional manufacturing capability for AMD APUs.

With my Silverstone SG-07 HTPC or my laptop, I just have one extended HDMI cable.

No it's not, and Alienware is bullsh*t. And by the way, you could actually ask someone at a PC store to build it for you. Were i live, it basically costs a beer.

Umm..who forces you to buy Alienware? Any decent shop that sells PC parts will gladly build the PC for you either free or for few bucks as long as you bought all the parts in their shop.

Nothing inconvenient has happened on my PC in the last 4-5 years... my consoles though? Well thats another story.... two 360s got red ring of death, have to wait for MS to fix em.... PC though?? No issues.

I actually find it to be far more convenient because of how much quicker it is to start playing. It takes absolutely ages for consoles to boot up, get a game loaded, go through the UI and then load a save or multiplayer map.

On a PC, especially one with a solid state drive, you tap the keyboard to exit sleep mode, click on steam and choose a server. You're in the game in about 10 seconds total.

This is not even to mention the total absurdity of physically inserting a disc to choose one game or another on consoles.

You're talking to brick walls my friend. PC enthusiasts on this forum will never admit that building a PC takes a little ingenuity and trouble shooting skills. I'm not saying the average joe couldn't do it, giving time. But the pay off vs just opening a console box, plugging it up and playing it doesn't seem worth it to a lot of gamers.

Of course it's more inconvenient. Consoles were designed with simplicity in mind. Of course, that simplicity negates certain advantages.

PC has made leaps and bounds in that direction though.

People get up in arms every time a game comes out with the same gamepad-oriented interface on PC that it had on consoles. Why is it such a big surprise that Windows' mouse-oriented interface isn't easy to use with just a gamepad?

You're talking to brick walls my friend. PC enthusiasts on this forum will never admit that building a PC takes a little ingenuity and trouble shooting skills. I'm not saying the average joe couldn't do it, giving time. But the pay off vs just opening a console box, plugging it up and playing it doesn't seem worth it to a lot of gamers.

The thing is, building a PC isn't even necessary. A tiny amount of hardware knowledge (as in, what video cards don't suck) is required to buy a prebuilt, but that's it.

Pc does offer the biggest libery of games and the best graphics. honestly it even offers the best multiplayer! Now that said i dont think people understand how much Pcs still scare the general public. Once you have to be the "computer fix it guy" for your family/friends you wont understand what im talking about. Consoles you plug it in and it works if it doesnt you get a number to call and they fix it. its fast and easy, plug it in and play. and dont even tell me PCs are fast and easy because honestly most people dont even know the difference between RAM and harddrive space.
