Get it through your heads, people.

What does underpowered mean?

It means not enough power FOR THE TASK AT HAND.

Eg:  Your pickup truck is underpowered if it's PURPOSE is to tow things and it's engine can't handle it.

The Wii is not an HD system, therefore is not underpowered because it's purpose isn't HD graphics.

In fact, it is arguably (although Xbox does some things it can't) the MOST POWERFUL SD system so far.

So, insult it all you want, just don't call it underpowered.

The fact is when compared to the 360 or PS3, it looks significantly worse (obviously), and therefore is ruled underpowered.

Uh, since you can play the 360 and PS3 in SD, saying that the Wii is the most powerful SD system is flat out wrong.

And the Wii is significantly weaker than the PS3 and 360, but THAT IS NOT WHAT NINTENDO IS GOING FOR WITH THE WII!

By trying to defend the power of the Wii, you are missing the point of it entirely.

What, you want to compare it to the GC, PS2, and Xbox? It is the weakest console in terms of graphical capibilities (this gen), and there is no denying that.

PS3 and 360 went way, way over mainstream consumer requirements.  Wii is sufficient to those requirements and considerably cheaper.  That's why it's winning.

Whenever did I deny that? Basing on what it was designed for, it is not underpowered.

Again, the Wii was not designed to be graphically equal to the 360/PS3. It was designed to be a different way to play, which it is, and its doing great.

It would be like saying Geometry Wars isn't photo-realistic, so its not fun/good.

You cannot hold graphics against the Wii when it was never made as a graphically intensive system.

Yeah, but I don't see the Wii's graphical shortcomings as a problem at the moment, the games that are out now don't look good I know, but I mean what the Wii is capable of is enough to very successfully get it through this gen. Next gen will be different, but as of now, the Wii's hardware will be fine IMO. As long as developers put it to good use, there won't be any trouble.

Bad analogy.  As a random-ass example, let's use RE:4 on GameCube.  Leon S. Kennedy looks more or less like a blond guy.  He's a not altogether unconvincing approximation of what a human being is supposed to look like.  That's more or less enough - beyond that, extra resolution, more processing power for higher resolutions, more physics effects and texture effects and suchlike is just better.  Graphics enthusiasts are understandably attracted to better, but for most consumers Wii is good enough.  The NES or even the N64 would not be good enough today.  On those systems, things looked like abstract representations.  On any console past PS2, things look like things.  And that's good enough.

Once the hype on the system wears off, consumers will be wanting more of their system. Whether this happens or not, well, no one knows. The GC was capable of great graphics (Zelda, RE), it's just a shame that most games look PS2 quality of worse.

Please share the info that you have on Nintendo's plans for next gen. :|

well, guess what

Leon on RE2 for PS1 looked more or less like a blond guy.....

see my point??? its normal evolution, only that now nintendo, since they want to earn more money, repeated the same hardware

Nintendo brainwashed you to believe that GC level graphics is enough, cant believe how gullible some sheep are...

GC graphics are NOT GOOD ENOUGH for today, this is 2007 please..... look at GeoW and update your concept of "good enough"

Sorry.. I wasn't referring next-gen as in Nintendo's console, I meant the standards would change. Didn't mean to make it sound misleading like that.

Gears360

Do you understand the difference between "Good enough for Gears360" and "Good enough for the mass market consumer"?
