If no one thinks that Apple is going to give Nintendo a trouble in this new generation of handhelds are fooling themselves. While the 3DS gimmick and hardware is neat and cool at first, it'll be outdated with with Apple's yearly updates on its hardware. I love iOS games sales, I currently bought 10 games on my iPhone for 1/4th of the price of a normal 3DS retail game. Not to mention the base model of the iPod touch is cheaper than both the PSP2/3DS that does way more than play games.

I'm getting the 3DS with Rayman, do you know how hard it is to play Rayman on the Ipod Touch? It's really annoying.

Oh boy, for a limited time I can struggle against bad controls to play a gimped version of Street Fighter IV, for only $1! Because if there's any genre where precise control doesn't matter, it's fighting games.

No thanks. The iOS version looks like a Gameboy version of a PS2 game. 3DS version will be much better. But for 99 cents, why not if you have an iOS device. Might as well.

Touch games don't work like traditional handheld games. I have yet to find a single one that plays comparably to any device with actual button inputs (unless it is just a cursor game where you drag and drop stuff).

I'm using my Android internet table at a gaming platform at college and I have to say it's not only cheap but addictive and pretty awesome Game Dev. Story took at least ten hours of my life away from me :P

It's certainly making me rethink my choice for a handheld. I'll definitely wait for a new version or a price drop, or games that aren't all ports. But I'll eventually invest because the controls can be a bother at times. And touching the screen I have to look at to play my game can also get in the way at times.

And you pretty much never will. Touch games are barely worth the 99 cents.

I bought an AC game for my iPhone for $3. The same game could be found on the DS, which was pretty decent. On the iPhone, it was IMPOSSIBLE. Tons of buttons all over the screen obscuring my vision when I "pressed" them and a super unresponsive "analog stick" all broke it for me. You'd have to pay me to play that garbage again.

It's freakin' impossible! I gave up after about 3 hours of trying.

But I was pleasantly surprised at how well SFIV played on an Iphone, it's just not gonna be as good as a dedicated console version, handheld or not.

Except the iPhone version is kinda bad and devalues the entire game by pricing it at 99 cents.

Piece of **** for 99 cents or something good in native 3D that resembles almost perfectly the console/PC versions for 40 bucks.

Answer should be clear.

I'm surprised at the level of hate that iOS games get for their controls. While I don't think a fighting game would be easy to pull off with a touch screen, it really depends on how developers pull it off. Most racing games at this point are just as good, if not better, as far as controls go, than their DS and PSP counter parts. Then you've got games like The Sims, Sim City, and Angry Birds that actually work better with a touchscreen than with buttons.

But the gamers will always choose the 3DS or NGP over an iPhone or iPod Touch. I have an iPhone 4 and I can't even tell you how difficult it is to play Street Fighter IV on it. It's fun, but certainly doesn't stand up to a pure gaming platform.

Even games that just use cursors don't work as well. Point in case: Secret of Monkey Island for iPhone.

To be fair the 3DS and NGP also do more than play games. Obviously the 3DS and NGP are multimedia devices that put priority on games and iphone/itouch are multimedia devices that don't put a priority on anything.

$40 for a game that is playable, or 99c for one that isn't...

I have big hands and fat fingers, the chances of me being able to play ANYTHING on an ipod and it not being a disaster are ZERO!

I doubt they will even be the same game. The 3DS will just be a limited, stereo-3D, portable, version of SF4. The iPhone one will probably just be some kind of random Fighter/Brawler with the SF name and appearance.

While the first once was lacking, Sims 3: Ambitions is really good. And yes, the original game was designed to be played with a mouse. A touchscreen is much more similar to a mouse than an analog stick. And this "piece of crap game" is currently #1 on iTunes, Andriod and even the PSN store. And saying that "gamers will always choose the 3DS or NGP over an iPhone or iPod Touch" is absolutely not true. I'd much rather have a device that is well rounded (music, games, internet browsing, etc), than a device that can play games well but sucks doing anything else (see DS and PSP). For me, portable gaming is to kill time while you're waiting in line or things of that nature. Serious gaming should be left for consoles/PC.

your right TC....this could be trouble for ninty. this is going to be a very interesting gen in the handheld market. will the old retail model and 40 dollar price point become a dying breed in the market? will app stores be dominant? are nintendo in for a rude awakening? or are apple going to be blasted out of it? could the NGP, which has fixed the PSPs problems, be a very big surprise hit? very interesting times ahead. however i wont be going near anything apple regardless of what happens.

Evenif gaming dedicated handheld devices are superior experiences compared to something iOS or Android, 39 USD is a HUGE difference in price.

I think once they start porting games like this to capable andriod phones is when nintendo might be in trouble.

They already have more buttons than the 3ds.
