I think it's pretty good. The quality of their modeling has definitely improved from Samurai Shodown and KOF XIV. I think it will be very impressive if SNK can put about 50 characters like these into XV (XIV has 58 characters). I'm looking forward to seeing what new gameplay mechanics will be introduced.
Nice job posting screens of bitties only lol. Is that to say that nobody plays these games for the fighting? Has it become DoA? Not super into fighting games, so please educate. I can see the Street Fighter comparison in looking at Chun-Li and Cammy.
Those are some ugly graphics and character models, but hopefully it's fun. I'll probably just ignore it like the other 14 though.
Bit surprised people say it looks really good. Maybe it looks good compared to earlier titles, and that's what you mean? Looks like a game from 2014 or something. Very stale and plastic.
The cel-shaded visuals are an improvement over KOF14, but I still prefer the sprite-work of KOF13. It would've been better if they went with a cel-shaded anime style similar to Dragon Ball FighterZ or Guilty Gear Xrd. Now that's how you animate 2D fighters with 3D polygons.
@Jag85: Yeah, I agree that the Arc System's techniques are great and one of the best answers to recreating the feel of KOF13's 2D arts with 3D polygons.
I remember seeing Arc System's GDC presentation on how to animate those 3D models. They basically adjust and process each 3D models frame by frame, like handwritten animations, to create dynamic movements. (I've heard that recent Evangelion movies also use similar techniques when animating 3D models.)
I personally think that KOF XV has its own distinctive art style that is different enough from other fighting games, but maybe they need their own unique visual techniques like Arc sys that would strongly impress people.
@vfighter: I agree. I've read that skipping frames is also an important technique for creating a dynamic rhythm and feeling of movement in animation. Looking at their fighting games frame by frame, it's true that such techniques are used. It's very impressive.
This doesn't look too bad. I'll probably end up getting it eventually. The thing with KOF games when they do overhauls is that the first revamp is a practically a beta, then the next one improves. Always good to see a major '2D plane' fighter release to the market though.
@R4gn4r0k: Yep. Sounded way more interesting than Streetfighter x Tekken.
@Litchie: Yeah, that is pretty much what's going on. KOF XIV looked like a game from 2004 so XV looking like it's from 2012 is a step up. Keep in mind, this is a company that used 16 bit sprites until about 12 years ago.
@hardwenzen: Are we looking at different games or is this a joke that I'm not getting?
Come on.
@eoten:
But yea, Samurai Shodown was Epic store with no crossplay.
In some ways can't blame em', PC community has a terrible rep for cheating.
I am always on the lookout for a good, fun fighter. I never played anything in the KoF series though. It may be worth a try.
It's a great series. If you don't mind 16 bit graphics, I recommend trying out KoF 2002: Unlimited Match. It has every character from all entries up to that point, and very polished gameplay.
If you need cleaner graphics, they finally switched to HD sprites for KoF 13 and that looks and plays amazingly well.
If you must have 3D, KoF 14 ain't exactly pretty but the gameplay is good.
My personal favorite is 11, but that's not as readily available as the others.
@judaspete: Yup, I love 3D fighters.
I mean 2D fighters are way better from a competitive point of view, but I don't take fighters serious lol, it's all about fun :)
Agreed. Miss stuff like Bloody Roar and Rival Schools. Maybe not as technical as Guilty Gear, but lots of fun with friends.

No console crossplay hurts especially if genre is niche and largest fanbase for fighting base is on consoles. Hope they learn.
