"It may come as no small surprise, then, that the latest study by industry trackers Nielsen Games reveals that Europe is second only to Asia in terms of consumer spending on gaming software."

The US ranks third.

For PC its first which consoles fanboys still have yet to get through there thick heads because they think that only US sales count when trying to bash a PC gaming for not selling much when A: Pc games sell over a longer period of time B: Digital distribution C: PC gaming in Europe is bigger than in the US.

[QUOTE="Vaan7"]I always thought US was first..horrowhip

well... it isn't.

It's the first as a country, but not as a region.

So much for lemmings claiming that the 360 was winning in the region that mattered most. Of course, now they're not. :P

Also so much for consolites claiming that no one cares about the PC, because PC gaming is MUCH bigger than console gaming in Europe and Asia.

Did anyone else think it's insane that the UK buys nearly half as many games as the USA does? For a country so small? I knew games were popular here but not THAT popular.

Which is larger, $17.94 billion or $11.5 billion?

I imported it. No way am i giving any money to NOE. And this applies to Wii really. 360 doesn't have a problem with EU releases. PS3 to a lesser extent. But Nintendo of Europe are plain lazy with everything.

To be honest that only seems to be a nintendo problem these days. Microsoft seem to get all of their games launched worldwide within the same week; forza, halo, gears, ninja gaiden etc. Sony too, with the likes of MGS4 pretty soon, though they have some european delays like Killzone. Nintendo seems to be the only one which still has regular gaps between USA, japanese and European releases. Lord knows why.

SOFTWARE, not hardware, software, and accessories.

Because it shows that their US numbers are completly wrong! $17.94 billion for 2007 not $10 billion.

Once again, the OP's article is about gaming software, not hardware, software AND accessories.

Those numbers include consoles. :| The Nielsen report is software and accessories; GAMES. Dont you think a company which tracks sales for a living would be better suited to say what is what than us, people on a forum? :?

My bad, I didn't notice the "software".

I think you guys need to look at some of the facts though.

1) you pay alot more for your games

2) they extra money per game goes to taxes, not to the devs.

Sorry for screwing up your thread, but I can't stand it when all the facts are not laid out. have a good one!

It's much more complex than even that, so even you aren't laying out all the facts. About the only standard measure we can rely on is the dollar amount spent, which points to Europe being a larger market, period.

DarthKalo

a) UK gamers do pay more. But not THAT much more. You cant just convert pounds into dollars and say "hey that's more!" because it doesn't work that way at all.

b) These figures are after tax; ALWAYS after tax, otherwise they'd be meaningless.

c) Why on earth are you so defensive over something as trivial as where games are bought? Does it really matter that europe buys more games than the US? :?

No, I'm sure they don't. They just want their fanboys to think that so that they think they're still relevant.
