a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/121/1211866p1.html">Source

A survey conducted between October 17th and 19th asked 1,083 people about their interest in upcoming consoles. Of those surveyed, only 9.4% said they would buy a Wii U, 36.1% said they were interested but wouldn't purchase one and 54.5% said they weren't interested in the console at all. For Vita, 10.2% said they would buy the handheld, 35.2% said they were interested but wouldn't buy one and 54.5% said they had no interest.IGN

A little worried since the Ps Vita is coming out in Febuary. Expected for the WiiU since little to no information is out yet.

Thoughts?

Yeap. Way too early for the Wii U. Not a single game, exclusive, has been announced for the platfrom, esp. Japanese-centric games. The Vita on the other hand, releases next month. XD

This sort of studies don't matter at all.

I wasn't interested at all in NBA2K12 until it was released.

I love these type of things, there is a way to make anything look in your favour, Sony will release one saying how Vita is already a huge hit, Nintendo will release one to show how 3DS is extremely successful and MS will show us how Kinect is the future, anyone can do there are even books to show you how to do these things with graphs, studies and charts.

Nah, I'm imagining the PS Vita to be a massive success in Japan.

I'll hold my comments on the Wii U until there's actually something to comment on.

Vita is doomed confirmed? :P Seriously though, a few months ago, a study confirmed that everyone was holding out for the Vita and therefore not buying the 3DS in Japan. Did the 3DS price cut and Monster Hunter announcements really do that much to take the steam out of Vita's sails even before it launches?

Haha, yeah. I remember that old screenshot of all the people in the MW2 boycott group playing MW2 on their Steam  Well, I wish Vita all the best, and I hope it does well. We need competition, look what the impending competition caused Nintendo to do, it caused Nintendo to court for some major killer games, to get its online act together, and to slash the price of its system. Competition is good for us. I hope the Vita does well. I will be doing my part, and buying it day one :)

Considering that there very little info on the Wii-U it is very easy to not be interested in it rightnow. Vita on the other hand however might be a bit worrisome but we shall see.

Ha, and people for some reason keep saying the Vita will somehow make people want to buy it by simply being more powerful and more like a home console than ever.

People want a unique device with unique games, and keeping IPs separated between handhelds and consoles like Nintendo usually does helps create interest in each platform.

1000 is a pretty typical sample size. If the same is representative, which it probably is, 1000 seems about right for the purposes of the study.

Again, 1000 is perfectly sufficient if the sample is representative.

And as long as they are asking gamers, the sample should be random.

The Vita looks like the next best thing in hand-held gaming. Two analogs (finally!), the touch sensors on the back, and a hardware platform that seems to be reasonably easy to work with.

The Wii U just looks downright terrible, and none of it makes much sense to me. The original Wii was a hit because everyone could jump in. As I understand it, only one uber-controller per Wii U is allowed, which just makes no sense to me. My only thought is that Nintendo is trying to ride the wave of their previous success (Wii and DS), and I think that's just not a good idea. They need a kick in the pants. Maybe another Gamecube era is what they need. Who knows. They bore me. But that's just my opinion.

Not like I wish for the Wii U to fail, I just think Nintendo could use a kick in the pants to start thinking clearly again. It's like anyone who is making decisions up there is on a Nyquil drip all day long. Only one uber-controller per Wii U, after the success they enjoyed with the original Wii's local multiplayer is just... Just a head scratcher.

I agree with you with the first two lines. The Wii U design looks too simialiar to the wii which is a bad business move. The one tablet controller is also bad move that will cause confusion among developers about control premise espicially in multiplayer. I have nothing to say about that except that I hope Nintendo will do something to fix those design flaws.

Nintendo has outright stated that they will cater to the hardcore as well as casual masses. They are also improving themselves in third party support with these games confrimed: Darksiders 2,Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon Online, Dirt, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Metro: Last Light, Tekken and Ninja Gaiden 3. Crysis, Valve, and EA have confirmed that the Wii U specs will be on par,if not better, than current consoles. Nintendo has already confirmed Smash Brothers and Pikman 3 are in development for Wii U.

Thats all I can say about the Wii U now but other than those design issues, Wii U is starting to build itself a great start for their first HD console outing

Wii U currently has no games, and Playstation Vita doesn't have a Monster Hunter...

I think it's easy to understand why the survey turned out the way it did.

Also, surveys should never be used to predict the future.

Not true! I do know (and Nintendo said this themselves) that they are trying to appeal to hardcore gamers and get third party support. Though.... hardcore gamers will see Wii its name and go.... "no"

Ah! Survey studies, gotta love em'. So a 1000+ people are supposed to represent the entire population, and that 40% or so of that sample size is supposed to represent gamers in general (in Japan). I envy companies such as AC Nielsen whose job is to just take arbitrary sample sizes of arbitrary demographics, and pass it off as market research, and get paid tons for it.

Both look terrible. A dedicated handheld gaming device in 2011 is not really appealing anymore.

WiiU = crap. Hated the original Wii and Nintendo hasnt done anything to prove to me that the Wii U isnt anything different. More gimmicks and crappy controllers.

I don't mind dedicated handhelds, but c'mon.... When the Vita was about to be revealed I was expecting it to be similar in size, and style to the PSP Go.

Nobody, and I mean nobody is going to be carrying around a PS Vita.... You would need a pouch, a purse, or a some type of fanny pack to hold it...
