I know someone who is exactly like that. PS3 isnt out here yet, but he's really hyping it, because its Playstation. He's got a PSP, PS2, PS1 and whenever we are playing DS or Wii he just bashes it ("Those graphics suck!"). I asked him what games he wants on his PS3 and he said "The new GTA" I then told him that it would be on 360 as well and he simply said "Yeah but It'll be better on PS3"

Blame it on the Sony PR guys that put the spin on it and the gullible "people" that believe it.

True, but when they see the price of the new systems (apart from the Wii which is fairly cheap) surely most people are going to do some research this time before spending £250 or £425 on the 360 or PS3. Unless they're a caual with money to burn I think the PS3 price tag will put quite a few of the old PS2 owners off.

I love the ps3 but ive definately researched it, and all the other consoles, I always like to make informed decisions. I just think that the spec of the ps3 it better than the 360. blueray, wireless out of the box, larger HDD (all in the 60GB box ofc). I realise not everyone wants bluray, thats fine but i do, I think it makes more sense not to then have to buy another player to watch high def movies, and more space has gotta be better for games.

But all of this is irrelevent anyway because the thing I researched the most was the games and there are more of the games i really like coming out on ps3 than 360 thats what it boils down to. Also im not one for graphics comparisons, i really couldent care less if one uses has better textures than the other, Graphics DO NOT make games IMO. tetris is legendary and it dont have uber graphics.

just my opinion!

yes, but there will always be people willing to change brand. brand loyalty does sell something well, but it can only get you so far. in this buisness, Sony are relying too heavily on brand loyalty

I know someone who was hyping the PS3 beyond belief. When he found out the price however, he went and got a 360. I also have several other friends who know nothing about the PS3 and think it will be great.

Anyone who knew anything about the PS2, XBOX or GC pretty much knew what games were first party for each system etc.  It's not like they're going into it totally blind.  Someone who says "I'm gonna get the 360 because I love the Halo frachise" but doesn't know anything about the 360 itself is not a blind idiot.  Someone who buys the Wii because they love Mario but don't know anything about the Wii beyond that are not blind idiots either.  See where I'm going with this?  You don't have to know much about a system to know that it has the titles that you will want to play & make a decision from there.

Another term for this could be brand loyalty. Sony has worked hard on their brand and they have a history. You may disagree with that reasoning, but many large corporations hope for customers to buy their brand on no other information than the brand name. You may dislike this but Sony must be given its due for being able to build such strong brand loyalty and awareness.
