Super Mario 3D Land?

This game received way to low of a score here on Gamespot. Beleive me, I know the game isn't amazing but only an 8.0?

For me:

The Good-

-Controls flow nicely

-A lot of hidden secrets

-3D feature adds depth and can sometimes be helpful on bonus stages

-It's Mario

The Bad-

-The game is somewhat short

Any other ideas?

honestly I have to agree with what Charizard said, it's my favorite Mario game. In all honesty the galaxy games are better in every conceivable way but just the fact that it's a handheld game makes me enjoy it more. I just enjoy playing handheld games more than I do console games, maybe it's just convenience.

2D it's like sonic 2d for saturn

Game was amazing. Easily the best handheld game this year. It was too way too easy though. Some Star Coins are a PITA to get, but there were never ball-bustingly hard levels. (Except the very last one.)

I love it.

I give it a 9, or 9.5 if it weren't for the boring overworld map.

My favourite mario game since Super Mario 64. To me, it was a really nice mix of the style of Super Mario 64/Galaxy and the older 2d side scrolling Mario titles. I think it gave the best of both worlds.

I haven't played near as much as I would like to, but honestly I'm almost inclined to say it's the WEAKEST Mario Game I've played.

That's not saying much, but hey it's still a good game, I just was almost hoping for a Super Mario 64 type game and not a New Super Mario Bros. type game.

There is a certain novelty playing on handhelds for me

I like it a lot, I thought the game was pretty long with the bonus stages.

I really loved it and I think i was the most fun I had with mario for a long time.

Sunshine is amazing, but it's not on the same level as SMG/2, SMW and SMB3.

I beg to differ on Super Mario Galaxy 2 and World. But I'll agree with Galaxy 1 and SMB3.

SM3DL is an outstanding game. IMO its the 2nd best 3d Mario game right under Galaxy 2.

And lol @ the easy comments. Seriously people. Not every game has to brutally challenging to be fun. I've played and beaten so many games over the years that most gamers deem "impossible" and that doesnt stop me from enjoying the game.

SM3DL has top notch level design, plenty of variation and near perfect mechanics and controls. Everything required for an amazing platformer is there. The game also makes great use of the 3d functionality. And it is moderately challenging if you go for completion.

I would give the game a 9.0 due to the lack of content. I wouldnt say its skimpy, but it is just a bit too short imo.

Yup. Sunshine was a disaster. I disliked SM64, but it was tolerable. Sunshine was abysmal. I bought it 3 different times since release thinking I would be able to look past the flaws and enjoy the game for what it is, but nope. I too thought that Sunshine was the beginning of the end for Mario, but luckily Nintendo proved me wrong multiple times this gen.

Game's pretty much a near perfect fusion of 2d and 3d mario. I just wish the difficulty ramped up sooner.

The first eight worlds were a cake walk.

People say its too short?? I spend 25 hours to finish it completely, I finished Mario64 on first play through in 9 hours. SM3d Land is the longest Mario title I've ever played, also one of the hardest, getting 100% is very tough, especially with shadow Mario chasing you in all those levels. I personally thought the crown level was easier than the Shadow Mario ones, at least I could take my time with them and didnt need to gather any coins or golden flag pole.

Although the more linear style of platforming kinda suits the pick up and play nature of handheld games better.

They scored it 10 percent under the average score. They seem to do that with Nintendo games.

It really is a great game, a neat mixture of classic 2D platforming into 3D environments.

Eh, it's ok. After playing the Galaxy series, 3D Land falls way short of that. I'm only on World 5, but an 8.0 seems about right. I've never been able to play for much longer than a few levels before stopping. When I played either Galaxy game, I would sit and play for hours. With 3D Land, I don't think I've even hit 2 hours in one sitting yet. It's a good game, but GS pretty much has it right with the score.

Exactly why I found Sunshine and Galaxy Amazing, Although for some reason Nintendo doesn't think they should add a Hub World anymore.
