8.0 Presentation
The Paper Mario series reborn with a new emphasis on platforming. All your favorite characters are back and there's a humorous storyline, but there's also just way too much text to read.

7.5 Graphics
A beautiful 2D platformer and an uninspired 3D one. The worlds Mario explores look fantastic when they're flat, but the moment they gain depth they become barren landscapes.

7.5 Sound
Fitting silly sound effects and a compilation of MIDI music -- some of the tracks really ring true and others are throw-aways.

9.0 Gameplay
Really fun and extremely clever. You'll play it as a platformer, but there's a light RPG in place, too. Tight controls and clever levels that use the 2D/3D dynamic will impress you again and again.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
A good, long adventure that will span upward of 20 hours and that doesn't even consider some of the goodies you might have missed along the way.

8.9 Overall

Not a bad score. I wonder if Gamespot will be more harsh on this game (which they traditionally are). What was the hype for this again?

IGN wii though just about always scores lower than GS.

Nobody has given it under an 8 yet, fanboy.  The game isn't bad.

It's not like you're going to be reading so much that it detracts from the game anyway.

Very few people hyped this game AAA. If it scored 8.9 than it's a pretty good game. Keep in mind that games standards are continuously growing. Anything that is an 8.5 and above will end up being the best games.Boba_Fett_3710

And for a more recent example, Twilight Princess had a fair amount of reading as well. Still the best launch game ever imo, and while it doesn't completely justify my purchase of the Wii, I didn't mind dropping the cash on a new console to play the game early.  Definitely one of the best games out there, and probably my top game of 06 (Gears is up there too).

This game won't be disregarded.  It'll do really well at retail and the great scores are all ready rolling in. 

Pity people tend to disregard ANY 2D games on consoles nowadays, even those with at least 30 hours of play and are of Mario sidescrolling caliber. Tristam22

Well, to quote an avid Playstation-fan friend of mine:

"If it isn't GTA, it ain't ****"

There's a new generation of gamers that haven't experienced the heart-pounding difficulty of the first Mega Man games or the joy of finally killing Bowser in SM3 on the NES. I - for one - am glad that Nintendo is sticking to its roots by releasing games like this.

It depends on who it is selling it to. Wii doesn't need anymore selling power to sell off the shelves, but if the DS is any indication, Big Brain might open up the market for older people, and MySims will probably open up the Wii to the non-gamer market even more. Super Paper Mario will be a nice game for anyone, but not a make-it-or-break-it type game.

IGN wii though just about always scores lower than GS.

We will all know by monday, won't we? (well, us in the US, at least).

I like what I see. I would be amazed if this was a flop in any way, shape, or form.
