I was really excited about this game, but the more details i find out about it the more my hype fades away. And the first impressions of the game are quite worrisome, too.

Star Wars Battlefront: fun, sprawling, and worryingly simple

This is what I managed to find out:

1. The controls are floaty and imprecise and weapons don't have that oomph effect like in BF. The author of the article notices that he didn't want SW Battlefront to be BF with SW's paint coat, but regrets his wish now as certain aspects of the game would be better off if they actually were BF with SW's paint coat lol

2. NO SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN

I know Dice sucks at making SP, but it's f*cking SW, the universe so vast and diverse that you must brain dead to not come up with any good SP plot.

3. NO 64-PLAYER MP. Star Wars Battlefront's max player count tops out at 40

Come on. I mean, what is the reason for such a dicky move ? Consoles ? A Battlefield (well, Battlefront) with no 64-player matches ? What year is it ? 2008 ? Next gen my ass.

Or maybe they are trying to copy Call of Duty again.

4. No space combat

Of course, we can not have it. We never can have it. Because it's STAAAAAR WAAAARS, therefore only planetary combat. F*ck you, Dice, too.

5. ONLY 4 PLANETS.

Because as there is no space combat, they can focus on planets then ? Nop. F*ck you for dreaming.

6. AT-STs Controllable, AT-ATs Not Controllable, No Galactic Conquest

7. And I must add that E3 footage didn't look that good either, visually- and gameplay-wise.

Yep. Hype 0. Make you wallets ready for milking via season pass - obviously they will add content with DLC only for additional 60 bucks. It's Hardline flop all over again but will be worse.

Special thanks to the user druout1944 from PCGamer for summing it all up for me.

I doubt it heavily and I really don't think this game is going to do THAT great. This isn't the late 90's and early 00's, Star Wars isn't popular anymore, kids these days don't even know what it is, they didn't grow up with it.

@jhonMalcovich: Looked awesome at E3. But there so much that you can't do in the game that you could in previous games. Usually, I'm not into complaining about games until they're released, but there does seem to be a real lack of content here. No space battles, no class systems, no driveable AT-AT, only 4 planets. Honestly, I wouldn't have minded at all if they just made this a BF clone in third person, since the previous battlefronts were pretty much just BF clones themselves. Honestly, all they had to give us a shit-ton of weapons and vehicles, big destructible maps, and a variety of locations from the lore. All this could have been very easily ported from the BF series. Then spend the time saved by essentially re-skinning BF, by implementing satisfying space combat, a good story, good lightsaber dueling, and a deep galactic conquest mode. I'm sure most people have been happy with that.

Still, there is hope for the game. It seems like a lot of decisions they made about the game where meant to keep the multiplayer and co-op fun. Strong multiplayer and co-op gameplay, for me, will redeem the game.

I think people over estimate the power star wars has in the gaming world. Even with the name star wars associated with games, most star wars based games have not sold enough to warrant more than 2 games in a series, even when star wars was a bigger name than it was today. With that said I hope battlefront turns out to be a good game, and has enough content to make up for the fact that it has no single player unlike most multiplayer only games this generation.

What a load of ****. This is just going to be another shitty Battlefield game but with a Star Wars skin attached to it.

If you guys want some Star Wars games that have single-player campaigns and space combat, play the Rogue Squadron games.

yeah the thing about battlefront is it always was kinda just a multiplayer FPS with a star wars skin so this one is nothing new at all

most star wars geeks like the jedi knight and the story games like shadows of the empire

this one was never about story really right its battlefront was always the super casual multiplayer version of star wars i dont see how this game goes against the past ones the real star wars geeks liked the story games better

Having no singleplayer campaign is actually a good thing. Dice should focus on what they do best.

As i said before i never was impressed with Battlefront. From their E3 showing it looked like battlefield 4 ( same animations, same combat mechanics etc ) with star wars coating but without as much content as BF4 and 40 instead 64 players. Oh EA you never fail to disappoint. I hope at least they wont screw Mirrors edge

That's not really how AAA game development works. People that work on single player and multiplayer portions usually are divided into different teams.

I imagine the people that previously worked on the Battlefield campaigns are working on Mirrors Edge Catalyst.

As with all EA titles, the young people will proclaim mediocrity, yet inadvertently still run out and buy it, creating +7 MILLION sales, promoting special preorder incentives, micro-transactions and other deviltrees, helping these bad man line their pockets, and ultimately destroy gaming.

Being a pc gamer, I (i..e me) will buy Rising Storm 2 for 1/5 the price, with no bullshitterly attached.

I think a lot of people will pick this up not knowing how limited it is on content, hell with the moving coming out it might sell on hype alone. In the end, I wish this was just Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.

As for the levels... wow, guess if you're making the game based off the original trilogy and not those awful prequels we wish never happened, yeah how many planets were there? Tatooine, Hoth, Cloud City planet or whatever it was, Endor. Can't really go to the Dagobah System. Who knows, maybe the movie will open sequels up to more opportunities.

The lack of a proper SP campaign or 40 player MP matches doesn't bug me so much.

It could flop epically (i.e. 4/10) and end up with a sub-50 metacritic average but it will still sell 5-6 million units come Christmas.

EA will sing praises and gamers with any sense of pride in their hobby and love for Star Wars will cry.

Even then smart consumers should be saying "fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice shame on you". Or in the case of EA: "fool me a dozen times, I think it's time to give up now".

But it has pretty graphics and its Star Wars so people who don't have a clue (IE COD players) will go gaga for it.

I feel somewhat guilty for saying this, but I like what I've seen so far. Here's why, and some of my reasons are selfish:

  • I never liked the single player campaigns
  • I never liked the space battles
  • The only mode I really loved was Galactic Conquest, and I played the hell out of those. I still play them sometimes. It's not clear that the new game will have this, but it sounds like it will have something equivalent.
  • Split screen co-op is a confirmed option, against bots
  • I don't think that more players onscreen = better
  • The new items and gadgets look great
  • Vehicles from the previous games were never well implemented
  • I heavily favor a stripped down approach that spends more time and effort in core gameplay of the series, and not gimmicks (and I do consider the space battles a gimmick).
  • EA, for all it's faults, do not leave major titles like this underfunded or underdeveloped. I was very glad that EA took this license from that shovelware dev that got it after Free Radical

I'm looking forward to more info on this game big time. It's been far too long without SW:BF

Funny where were you lemmings when Star Wars Kinnect released and sold to millions of kids.. One of the worst franchise games to grace existance... but you guys praised it. Something tells me you are salty this game is releasing near halo and may steal it's thunder.

Kids and adults love star wars. Parents who grew up with it in the 80s (llke me) get their kids involved. It becomes generation gap spanning. It's a good thing, and millions are hyped...well besides bitter people on this thread.

oh yeah the average gamer age is 35!

@nyadc: I teach 4th graders and honestly you couldn't be more far off base in this regards. Kids these days LOVE Star Wars.

And how are 4th graders on halo. I have a feeling that series has lost it's luster to kids (at least my son never hears about it, of course we don't own xbox consoles) .

Star wars is massive for kids, they had the animated series and Toys R us is loaded with figures , toys, tie-ins etc... More than when I was a kid in late 70s and early 80s.. .that is saying a lot as it was big back then.

PlayStation maniacal fanatics will be buying this game like crazy and people will buy PS4s for this game regardless.

I doubt it heavily and I really don't think this game is going to do THAT great. This isn't the late 90's and early 00's, Star Wars isn't popular anymore, kids these days don't even know what it is, they didn't grow up with it.

You are aware the new Star Wars movie hits not long after the game, right. Many are anticipating it.

The generation that is growing up with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the target demographic of 13-15 year olds, the largest group to likely get them, has no relevant reference of Star Wars in their lives. The last Star Wars movie was over a decade ago and that was the final film in the new horrible trilogy, Star Wars just isn't relevant to these kids, they don't care about it. A new one coming out is anticipated by us late 20's+ users, we grew up with Han Solo and Darth Vader, we grew up when Star Wars was iconic and still a global phenomenon, that just isn't present reality anymore.

That's total crap man, coming from you. I first saw Star Wars back in 1993 when I was 8 years old. To this day, everyone pretty much knows what Star Wars is, the prequels movies that hit 1999 [talking about episode 1] that was the biggest opening movie cause everyone's been asking for a new Star Wars movies over a decades of that time from kids to older adults, younger kids to this day already knows what Star Wars is, have you watch Star Wars the Clone Wars CGI that's been airing for a long time? Have you watch Star Wars Rebel lately? What I'm saying is, younger kids know more about Star Wars including the originals to this day. Hell we are getting a new Star Wars movie in December and everyone's is waiting for it, including me. Bare in mind we haven't had a new Star Wars game ever since Disney took over and Battlefront, well it looks good but I'll wait for the reviews on this one. Trust me, Star Wars is more relevant then you'll know, including this generation.
