I don't want less buttons ! I'm very happy with the way it is right now. 12 buttons, 2 analog sticks, 1 d-pad.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
He's right though. This was supposed to be the HD gen, and it's not. It's the interface gen. HD is nice and all, but it's just more of the same only clearer...that's it. Stuff like the wiimote or the guitar may not be revolutionary tech, but they are doing revolutionary things to gaming and how gaming is accepted.
This is the interface gen.
I hate Cliffy B. I don't know why, but I do.thepwninator
He's a great game designer. And a cool guy. What's to hate?
The current setup is optimal. All but one game that I own used every button effectively. Some games even use all the buttons, the analog sticks AND the d-pad, yet they aren't overly complex. Don't Wii'ify everything. If the game needs fewer buttons just use fewer buttons and have duplicates.
If we had a 3rd hand, i'd advocate adding more buttons or another analog stick.
Agreed 100%.
On a side note, I also agree with the first member reply left below the trailer, lol:
"I think that the full body suit thing is a bad idea when you play video games you want to get into the game but you also want to kick back and relax, you dont want to be hopping around your living room looking like a retard."
LMFAO, can you imagine having a few buds over to play on a Friday night, and you all are drinking, jumping around the living room in mocap looking suits.

A great game designer I can't argue. A cool guy.... I don't know. Seems kinda phony, like a manufactured "cool guy". Just something about him. Maybe I'm completely wrong but something about him just doesn't sit right with me.

What is the guy supposed to do, decline an offer to make more money, and sacrifice his livelihood so that the Jazz Jackrabbit fanbase will be happy in believing he loves them more than bettering his own lot in life?

IMO games should be made towards "gamers" not "people who play games" why should I suffer because someone who picks up there controller every other week cant get used to the game the way players who play every day like me.

He's become very unlikeable since his "PC gaming is dead" incident, and his sudden change of heart. It's just making him look like an utter fool.

Either way, that's the way it is right now with many games. It's just that we've been playing for some time now and we got used to it.

And a well designed game is one with the depth a gamer looks for with the controls that are fully intuitive even for someone who never touches games. If either is missing, that the design is lacking.
[QUOTE="darkmagician06"]people always resist change....free your mind my friendForza_2It's not about resisting change, it's about resisting this particular one. I don't want less buttons if there are no real compensations for it.
What we play next gen will be dictated by how this gen turns out... If the wii hits PS2 numbers then you'll see M$ and Sony go the wii-mote route. It may not be an exact replica but it will be similiar in execution. Ie. A controller with maybe 5 buttons that can be turned on it's side to do motion sensing. Fighting game fans will probably be up ***** creek without a paddle. However if the PS3 takes off or the 360 ends up surprising people, you'll see the current controllers remain the same but maybe alittle more ergonomic in design. Either way I think all of em will have some sort of Motion sensors..

I agree, simply=better.
Look at Mario Galaxy, so simple. Yet a lot of fun.
Jamiemydearx3
Definitely. Simple in execution, but very challenging to master, and that's a watermark for alot of the best games. I mean look at Audiosurf, you're basically just using a mouse to move around and collect squares, but some of the high scores I've seen for it so far are just insane.
If you don't have less buttons and evolved interfaces then the vidogames market will shrink and ten years from now you'll be playing with a yo-yo
Be grateful you still have a hobby
You guys really should understand interfaces more.
A game will be tailored to the interface it's provided, or it'll fail. This is why many Wii games are incompetent. However, a great example of a game being successfully tailored to a system with far less buttons would be the jump from Super Metroid to Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission. The hanheld sucessors to the SNES classic control wonderfully with two less buttons to play with.
Point is, you can't solely blame an interface for a game being a pile of crap. An interface is only as good as the developer utilizing it aspires it to be. The real question is how high the developer can make the interface peak.

To be a "great" gamer designer he would have to be capable of making more than one game. "PC gaming is dying! The controllers have too many buttons! Microsoft is being mean to me!". When Cliffy can make a popular game that doesn't involve muscle-bound "bad asses" shooting each other, give me a call. I don't need to give you my phone number, because it will never happen - however you may want to give Cliffy B a map to the unemployment office - maybe he can carpool with Romero in a couple years.
.
Cliffy B is an ass - his disrespect of women, his pompous, self-promoting egotism, his "I'm better than everyone else attitude", and his false belief that his designer role somehow qualifies him to make these "predictions" about the industry...
He's a shameless self-promotionalist - much of what he says is simply to get media attention on himself. There are no redeaming qualities to the man, someone needs to tell him to knock it off with the back of their fist.
