Which is a better system for gaming and why. Keep in mind that the wii just launched. Based on what we've seen so far, what system will be the better games machine and why, give your reasons.

Heres a brief (very brief) comparison between the two
360
Pros:
Great hardware for a reasonable price
Lots of solid games released so far like Gears of war, lost planet, crackdown, Graw Oblivion and so on
Great online service

Cons
At 400$, the system is still a bit expensive
300$ model is pretty useless
No innovation in the system or majority of games, also lacks variety

Wii
Pros:
Very affordable price
Innovative, a new way to play games and breath of fresh air in the gaming world
Virtual console and various new and upcoming channels

Cons
Comparitvely weaker hardware- in comparison with the 360
Lack of games with online play so far
Many games seem to be ports so far, with tacked on wii controls

In my personal opinion, the 360 is a better games machine (which is not an insult to the wii by any stretch of the imagination) simply because of the ability to play online and great games being released so far. Which one do you prefer?

I'm actually really impressed with your post. Everything you said was true. The last part, of course, is an opinion. It all boils down to our preference of games. If you like Nintendo games, buy a Wii. If you like Gears/GRAW/Crackdown/etc., get a 360. If you like both types, get both. Of course, other factors play a role (do you love motion-sensing or a more robust online experience?), but games are still where it's at.

The only thing that makes them different to me is the price.

279.99 CAD vs. 499.99 CAD

59.99 CAD vs. 69.99 CAD

0.00 CAD vs. 129.99 CAD

Ugh... I wish I was not poor...

Poor hardware- in comparison with the 360
mangobear

This really is the only thing wrong with the post.  To clarify: in terms of raw power, the 360 beats the Wii.  However, extremely compact design, paired with integrated WiFi, the ability to access the internet, a slot-loading disk drive, and the ability to run without creating too much heat or power gives the Wii hardware points in different areas.

From a hardware standpoint, both are technological marvels.  The 360's hardware has power on it's side.  The Wii's hardware has more features, and has practical and easy to use design.

The 360 has more games that I like, so I'd pick the 360. The Wii COULD be cool, but so far I haven't really seen anything to pique my interest.

I love Nintendo, I've been a loyal fan for years.  But Xbox 360 is just a better all around game console than the Wii.

I think that the Wii's ability to always be on and consume very little power is a strong point; it has great implications for games like Animal Crossing. Perhaps "poor" isn't the ideal term. I would say "comparatively weaker" hardware to the 360 is better word choice.

Thats a really great point, but when I said that statement, it was in regards to gaming. Compact design, integrated wifi and so on are great additions, but they don't necessarily affect games to a great extent. I could have added things like the 360's upcoming IPTV (i think thats what its called), but it doesnt really affect games. The poor hardware comment was simply based on technical things like cpu gpu etc, things that affect games, although I should have been a bit more specific.

And thanks guys for the good feedback on the thread :D

I think Xbox 360 is just a better console in terms of everything put together. Good graphics, good games, good online, perfect price.

Ah, but as I pointed out some of the hardware aspects of the Wii will benefit games. As I said, I think that "comparatively weak hardware to 360" (weak suggests the horsepower and such) is better word choice than "comparatively poor hardware."

I'd love to have both of these systems but can't afford it ATM. The 360 is probably a little better because of its capabilities graphically and the larger game library with better online IMO. The Wii has some great games but not a lot of them and it has a crappy online system ATM at least.

I have both, and play both a lot. I have far more games I want coming to 360 than Wii though, so I suppose it would be the better game system.

Heres whats funny, I TOTALLY agree with you, yet my Wii gets more play time.

My personal view is that in sales the Wii will lead with the 360 in second and in AAA games the 360 will win followed by the Wii.

There's no doubt that the battle between first will be between the Wii and 360 though.

Wow, this a good thread. There's actually traces of logic I'm picking up in people's posts - is this SW? Quick, I better say "360 sucks" before this thread actually gets good! :P

Althogh I'm a nintendo fan above else, I agree 360 is a far better machine in terms of software, online and specs. I love my wii, but that's the fanboy talking. I borrowed my friend's 360 for a couple of days and it's a blast. Far better than the original dopey Xbox. But the library is more than just shooters, which is great to see.

Wii will be my fav console as soon as Brawl and Galaxy kick off. But right now, 360 is a far superior machine, mainly because of its head start establishment.
