System Wars Impressions: Heavy Rain

The game has been out for a whole day now and I wanted to get people's thoughts on how their experience is going.

To me, the game is hugely impressive. The way the interface moves sometimes photorealistic visuals offer incredibly high production values. The game begins pretty slowly but soon begins to feed into a game that I had to force myself away from. Simply put - the game has moments that left me emotionally impacted and shocked.

So far... GameSpot seems a little off their rocker for not giving this one a AAA score, but to each their own.

I played for about 3 hours today. the game is simply awesome.. The controls can get a little weird sometimes but its no big deal. I cant wait to get back at it tomorrow

Played it for about 2 and a half hours today... Loved every freaking second. Also wtf best install ever, They give you a piece of paper and show you how to make an origami piece while its installing! lol thats sooo awesome!

Has anyone found out yet how long a single playthrough takes for this game?jalexbrown

I just finished it and I honestly don't know how long it took me. . . lost track of time. I'll say 10-11 hours tops.

Yeah if you play through it non-stop like I did, sure you can beat through it if only given couple days to complete it.

Yes.

Well, I don't want to say much aboutgame so I'll just say this; I was on the edge of my seat the whole ****ing time. The voice acting, for the most part, was okay. . . it certainly could have been better. The controls were bad, but I got used to it throughout the playthrough.

Oh, and Chapter 33, loved it. Madison, you got it girl, you got it.

I didn't replay that sequence yet so I don't know about that but I also screwed up a little bit there.

Demo was terrible imo I think that GS review was just being nice i think an 8.5 is too high.bigboss5ak

I, personally, see this as an AAA game. But, hey, I can live with GS giving this an 8.5. I have yet to read through the review so I'll see what they have to say about it.

The game is extremely impressive. The animations are especially notable in terms of the tech aspects, it is definitely up there with uncharted 2 and mgs4. On the gameplay side, one particular section(to avoid spoilers, I'll just say it involves ethan and an abandoned building) was literally forcing you play twisters on the controller. Story-wise, I love the production values. Acting is extremely good, and adds so much to the tension and mood of the game. I can't say I know a lot about the story yet, but with the way things are unfolding, I'd really love to do certain scenes again to see how they would turn out otherwise.

yea the game is HUGE, there is the normal gameplay where you walk and investigate, the normal cut-scenes, the interactive scenes and the amount of animations is insane.

so yea these huge games always have some technical issues and like you said they are not game breaker.

I'm playing it now. Great game.

It's a bit slow at first, but it's picking up. Fantastic presentation, sans a couple bad voice actors or wired writing. Nothing that would ruin the enjoyment though.

Surprisingly, it's got a lot in common with Silent Hill Shattered Memories. While they're two different games, they present their settings/characters/narrative in much the same ways and both have a lot of "hands on" interaction with the game. They're both stripped down to their basic gmaeplay, with no dumb extras like collecting hidden medals or killing bosses. They're both like interactive novels and it's something I hope we see from more games.

I got it early on saturday and completed it already.

Seriously this game had me hooked from start to finish. I made one mistake and it's still sticking with me. It's one of those games that really suck you in and stick with you. I'll definitely be playing through it again but making different decisions. There are quite a few plot holes now that I think about it though

Played this for a couple hours last night... and I am totally blown away by it. Exceeds my expectations in every way. People have compared it to Dragon's Lair, but there's much more interactivity than that :| The characters, the interaction, the animations and emotion that is shown so far is pretty epic.
