Tales has always been popular, Namco Bandai has just been reluctant to spend money into localization.

JRPG's tend to not be appreciated as much in the West, which is a shame since there are so many great ones.

Xillia sold for well over 700 000 units so far in Japan, Tales always belonged on a Sony platform and hopefully we'll see more of them. I'd kill for Xillia. :(

Even Vesperia outsell the worldwide numbers for the xbox on its first week on PS3 in Japan alone, pretty impressive and i think Namco knows it too

I would like these games to cut out some fluff, but outside of that they can be a lot of fun.

What's impressive is how xbox outsold PS3 for like a week when Vesperia came out and Japan had the Vesperia 360 bundles. I know it's only a week but yeah.

There's also Innocence R for Vita, no idea if it'll come out here though.

After how well Tales of Symphonia did on the Gamecube Namco may as well have kept the series Nintendo exclusive.

I also believe it was their highest selling western release for a Tales game as well.

But what can you do? Namco is just dumb at times. Their fanbase is split up, and on every system rather than just one or two.

That's good I wish Namco Bandai would actually make there Tales games multiplatform. It's annoying when they go from Gamecube to PS2 to 360 to PS3.

Given how the market works these days; They would be better suited putting these games on handhelds, or going multiplat ps3/360.

Was there a demand even? i personally dont know, i only knew this series existed thanks to Eternal Sonata :P

The Demand for the PS3 games was huge or better yet just mind blowing! people attacked Namco's facebook page, twitter and heck even their posts on the PsBlog about Tales localization for months and months till they finally broke down and now their even working on even more JRPGs like Ni No Kuni

Nah i don't think there was a demand for PS2 ToS. Even there the extras didn't made it worth a localisation unless you didn't own a NGC back then.

That's what I think too especially given how often it seems that the "Tales" dev seems to be in trouble.

It was kinda ToS2, but it seemed like more of a spin-off title, so it seemed pretty obvious it wasn't going to sell well.

I think none of the original actor were there for the VA too, except Colette and Presea. I wonder if it would have sold better on multiple platform.

Though personally ToS2 is what FFX-2 was to FFX.

Its reviving because of hype. If Xillia was made for the PSP or even DS and was hyped up as much as they hyped Xillia Im sure it wouldve sold just as much. Tales games alway sell well, hype and support asking propelled Xillia to high sales, not the system although Im sure the Sony brand was a plus over a microsoft system.

The Tales series was revived because they put out a Tales game with higher production values, good promotional material, and coupled it with a song from Hamasaki Ayumi.

I'm playing it now. About 4-5 hrs in. The game starts really slow and I hate the characters so far, but I'll keep playing hoping it gets better.

Tales games alway sell well

Shirokishi_

LOL no.

Only 5 have sold impressive numbers: ToD, ToD2, ToS, ToE, and ToX. The rest, not so much.

I'm sure they sell enough to make a profit though, given the few amount of copies Bamco prints nowadays.

Tales has not stopped being made. It has just not been a tales game here since 2008 with tales of symphonia2. Tales games games have been coming to all systems in japan. It is just this year they started localizing tales games. The one on the 3ds and ps3. I am getting both. So no, the ps3 is not the only one keeping the tales games alive.

I seriously doubt that any game on the planet sold a flat number, so there's an error in your research.

These games are old, and sales numbers more than likely haven't been updated since 2004/early 2005.

As far as my research tells me that number you got (OVER 9,000x10^2!!!!!!!!!!!) is only from the NA and European territories.

Edit, nvm. I read it wrong. It does include Japan.

However, there are conflicting sales numbers you can find elsewhere. I can't recall the site I was on, but the numbers I recall stated 0.55 million in NA, 0.32 million in Japan, and something like 0.22 million in Europe. Then factor in other territories it also sold in, and it should be around my original number.

My statement regarding the game doing "well" on the GCN still stands.

Including the PS2 port, it's the best selling Tales game in the series. Excluding the PS2 port, it's the 3rd best-selling Tales game in the series.

If that isn't selling "well" by the series' standards, then every other Tales game is a financial failure. So, which is it? Because apparently, you were aware of how much the game sold beforehand, but still insisted on asking if it did "well" on the Gamecube.

I seriously doubt that any game on the planet sold a flat number, so there's an error in your research.

These games are old, and sales numbers more than likely haven't been updated since 2004/early 2005.

Namco was stingy with the GameCube.
