Why bother Namco? That game was 60fps on the GC over a decade ago.

You're better off using an emulator. What a trainwreck.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/372360/#app_reviews_hash

Really fed up with these Japanese devs doing shit ports on PC trying to make a quick buck. You can stay the hell away if you're gonna do such a piss poor job. I'd rather have nothing than crap thank you.

Hilarious requirements which I hope aren't true. Apparently a 7850 is recommended to run that game. My OC'd 7850 would trounce a PS4 90% of the time.

for some dumb reason it says they're basing it on the PS3 version, which I'm pretty sure was based on the PS2 version, which ran at 30fps

Kind of sucks that they screwed this up, because by all accounts Tales of Zestiria was a pretty good port (although it had a 30fps cap)

Lame. No doubt we'll get a 60fps mod, just like with Tales of Zestiria -- which also helps with the annoying frame-skip issue.

I am aggressive. I was looking forward to this game at a nice 2560x1440 and 60fps but I'm not even getting half of that. Wouldn't be so mad if it weren't 22$ CAD.

I'm considering a refund, not only is the framerate locked but whenever I try to change the settings the game just freezes on me.

I love dubbing in Japanese games (prefer it actually) but I can't stomach the Symphonia dub, know it's a silly complaint but it makes the game MUCH harder to take seriously when I hear Robin from Teen Titans as a JRPG lead.

I thought the game was free to anyone who pre-ordered tales of zesteria?

I didn't pre-order Zesty though, I got it on PS4.

I got this game free when I pre-ordered Tales of Zestiria. Haven't tried testing it yet.

The good news is that Tales from the Borderlands runs at 60 fps and it's the best tales game in the long running JRPG franchise.

was it 60FPS on the GC?

it's odd. i can see why they limit the FPS for some older games. an old trick with console development is to tie some of the games logic to the framerate since the performance is a fixed point. you cant do that on a PC of course and reengineering the game to be framerate agnostic could prove to be a lot of trouble. i think we saw a similar thing in dark souls where unlocking the framerate caused degredation to happen faster than it should or something.

so i was initally thinking its a GC port which ran at 30FPS. but if it was 60 (or if they do have a build that runs at 60) then limiting it on the PC is very odd.

The Gamecube version ran at 60 fps. The only time it was at 30 fps was when you walk around in the overworld.

The reason the PC port turned out bad is because:

  1. PS2 version is a port of GC version, with FPS downgraded from 60 to 30.
  2. PS3 version is a port of PS2 version, with 720p and 30 FPS..
  3. PC version is a port of PS3 version, with 720p and 30 FPS.

Basically, the PC version is a port, of a port, of a port.

It's the same reason why the first PC version of Resident Evil 4 turned out so bad, because it was a port of the PS2 version, which was a downgrade of the GC version.

Not really when the PS2/PS3 version has content the GameCube version doesn't. More like just lazy of Namco Bandai to not make the necessary tweaks, unlike Capcom and RE4 for Wii and HD.

Tales games... seriously most of them are just SO bad including Symphonia. Vesperia was amazing, if you want to bleat indignantly about Tales games on PC ask for this one.

Zestiria is a bit better than I expected and has a 60fps patch. Berseria (fucking hell these names) will probably be good on PC but seriously stop crying about X Tales game and just hope you get a good one on PC. Vesperia 'remaster' on PC would be amazing.

If you're going to cry for stuff, ask for the GOOD stuff.

the demand for Vesperia on PC and next gen consoles is too much for namco to ignore forever.

Symphonia Chronicles was already a lazy port despite being released on what was the most popular platform for the Tales of Series at the time, so I didn't expect more than a barebones port. Somehow though, they managed to make it even worse than that. Way to spoil the goodwill you built up with the solid Zestiria port, Bamco.

@MonsieurX: You would still need to update the assets, which is why they probably didn't bother. Simply not locking the resolution with the same assets would look horrible.

Yes and no, you can clearly tell the difference in a fast paced game, which is not the case in a game like this.
