The game is one of the least cynical, most fun, and downright unique games I've ever played on Vita. It's legitimately my favorite 3D platformer since Galaxy 2.
Unfolded genuinely looks great, and looks like Media Molecule put a bunch of effort into the transition. But ultimately the game is not only a gem on the Vita but vital to it. It expects you to treat the game as not just a world on your screen, but actually in it, and then gives you the tools by using the Vita's gimmicks to create that intimate connection.
The gameplay changes in Unfolded really come down to using the Touchpad and light bar to control a lot of features that the touch screen and back touch pad did on the Vita, which were some of my favorite control methods in the original. There are more levels in Unfolded which is awesome, since yay more Tearaway, although apparently this leads to pacing issues towards the end.
And yeah, the combat blows no matter which platform you're on. Part of lolplatformercombat. I can say that it's worth taking a shot at the Vita version down the line if you don't have a camera, since the front facing one was essential for the original version. I'll actually try Unfolded and get back to you.
