Tecmo still owns the rights to Ninja Gaiden.

Just because Microsoft is publishing NG2 doesn't mean that Tecmo can't publish a PS3 port. For example, Oblivion was published by 2k Games on the X360 and PC version, but was self published by Bethesda for the PS3 version.

Therefore, Ninja Gaiden 2 being published by Microsoft for the X360 doesn't mean that Tecmo can't produce a PS3 version unless Microsoft now owns compete rights to Ninja Gaiden (Notice how Dragon Sword is still being published by Tecmo).

edit: Also notice how the EU version of Ninja Gaiden was published by Microsoft in the EU and Tecmo everywhere else.

You do realize there is a difference between third parties switching off publishing rights than there are first parties right? Bethesda self publsihing a title previously published by 2k, a third party, is NOT the same as Tecmo self publishing a Microsoft published game. Microsoft publishing usually stipulates an exclusive contract for that specific title, not necessarily the franchise, but that specific title is usually contracted exclusive based on the first party publishing.

Interesting observation. However, I'd bench the possibility of a PS3 port as unlikely at best. Itagaki's a real jerk like that.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma, I would presume, would be an elegant way to overrite that exclusive contract.

That depends on the wording of the license agreement. If MS paid to maintain exclusive rights to "Ninja Gaiden 2, and all variations, remakes, et al.", then It'll stay on Xbox360

Even if they did find a loop hole the game wouldn't come out till at the end of the generation or beginning of the next one so it'll be a moot point by then have fun waiting though

I laugh at the idiocy of so many people on system wars.

Currently, Ninja Gaiden 2 is set for a worldwide release on the Xbox 360 sometime in 2008. However, unlike its predecessors, it won't be ported to other consoles down the line. Instead of being published by Tecmo, holder of the Ninja Gaiden license, the game is being bankrolled and distributed directly by Microsoft Game Studios. Exact terms of the publishing deal were not made public as of press time, nor were any details on the title's story or gameplay.

Why cant you Cows get it through your skulls.....NG2 IS NOT COMING TO THE PS3!!!!! MS is publishing the game and it is exclusive for the XBOX 360. BUt Ill play along with your little fantasy and lets say that somehow it does come out for the PS3. When are we talking here?? Summer 2009 at the earliest!!! By then who cares! The point is that MS will be talking about their next console before NG 2 hits the PS3!!

Yeah its hard to say since we don't know the details. MS may or may not have exclusivity rights to NG2. Certainly don't own the franchise now though. Could damned well be a PS3 port a year from now.... hell maybe published by Sony even.

If legally Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Sigma are different franchises, nothing stops them from publishing the second iteration of the playstation exclusive franchise Ninja Gaiden Sigma somewhere down the line.

See what I did there?

It all depends on how much money microsoft gave them. If none or not enough, they will port to sell more.

4 The right to move freely between publishers on new game projects.

This item is a good example of what I call below 'alienable' rights.
In other words, it is fine with me that a developer might decide,
in the course of negotiating an agreement,
to work exclusively for a publisher for a period of time.
That said, this right should not be taken for granted - for example,
it should not be a presumed part of a publisher's standard agreement.

Ninja Gaiden is not the same project as Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Microsoft clearly ment that, like Ninja Gaiden that was ported to the DS, that won't happen with NG2. :P
