help me choose. i am going to get one of these but which one is it gonnabe?
what is so great about the PS3 that the Xbox 360 doesnt have? and vise versa
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Only reason you should buy one over the other is games. If you like the 360 games get a 360, if you like the PS3 games then get that.
Of course the best option is get both.

I'm going to be blunt.
Don't expect anyone to hold your hand. You are not a baby. I expect you to make your own determination. You're sitting here on a dedicated video game website asking perhaps the most asinine question ever put to words. Go to Gametrailers right now, start collecting media, start comparing game scores, current and future lineups, and system potential, and make your own decision.
I'm so tired of these ridiculous threads. "Which should I get?" If you asked "which is better in general?" we might be able to answer your question. But "which is better for me?" we cannot.
You didn't even say which genres you like, what games appeal to you, what franchises you like best, what's most important to you in a console or a game....god, I swear, this bare-bones nonsense.

And if movies are that big of a deal for you, don't forget you can rent HD movies right from XBL.

Suks that it's only rent, but still it's good.

Because of the price, and the 60gb still has the Emotion Engine still built in on the MB. But personally I like the 360 better, but if I was in your situation. The best deal you can get is buying the 60gb now, and the 360 later, after the price drop. Those 60gb will be gone before you know it.
Of course the best option is get both.

I can answer this. Blu Ray functionality is a positive, but it is not the be-all, end-all. Again, decide what works best for you. I, personally, like HD functionality, and if you have a movie rental service like Netflix, you can add Blu Ray or HD-DVD rentals to your subscription for free.
However, if you're going to buy an Xbox 360, you should only purchase the Xbox 360. Do not purchase the HD-DVD add-on as it is a practical waste of money. Most studios have adopted Blu Ray as their primary and (in many cases) exclusive format. Some carriers have decided to cut HD-DVD support completely, such as Blockbuster (which claims that Blu Ray constituted 70% of overall HD sales) and Target. This is a bad omen, Blu Ray is already winning.
The question is how important is it to you? Is it important enough to choose a less impressive lineup in the immediate? I can tell you that, in the future, you'll barely be able to tell the difference between either the Xbox 360's and the Playstation 3's lineup (meaning they'll both be excellent, with plenty of good games to choose from, and many exclusives). I can also tell you that I am somewhat satisfied by the Playstation 3's lineup, that now is a good time to buy ($500 temporary price cut, so Sony says), you will enjoy it and have plenty of games to choose from before the end of the year and much to look forward to.
If HD movies are important to you, buy the PS3. Better deal, better selection, will last more than 8 months (HD-DVD is in its last dying throes).

Xbox 360 Pros: IMO a better games, including 08. (I've looked at IGN.com for release dates, kept track and found more games on 360 I want), Xbox Live, IMO best controller (it just feels perfect using it)
Cons: Pay $50 a year, host advantage, fear of it always breaking on you, some would say its holding back games by using the DVD9 format but I don't think its a big deal, maybe you do
PS3 pros: Its Sony, they are going to get sleeper hits out of nowhere (who saw God of War coming whenPS2 launched?) so you shouldn't worry about a lack of games, free online (though nowhere near XBL)
Cons: too expensive...theres alot of others but im kinda bored naming them
Why don't you do what I did and just compare both and whichever one you feel is better then get.
Honestly till ms fixes it's hardware you should not buy a 360 also if you have a hdtv then blu-ray is huge step up from dvd. Also while in 07 the 360 has a small advantage in the lineup of games in 08 it's all sony. Then psn is free with no lag and the service is only getting better with new firmware and home coming.I like the 360 but i also have a gaming pc so many of the major games are on or will be soon and look better with more features so that kinda kills some of it's impact for me.
However it's your money and maybe the multimedia for the ps3 does nothing for you and you don't care about the 360's faulty hardware issues and maybe you don't want to install linux on your console. For me the ps3 has been great and unlike the 360/wii in 08 it looks alot better. After the e3 there should be no doubt that sony is back with a huge upgrade in game quality and exclusives. The 360 arcade is great though if your into that sony can't touch them there and neither can the wii. Also live is a great service but it comes with a price and no severs so lag is a issue. The 360 gave me great service while it was working though. Oh almost forgot if you care about backward compatibility the ps3 wins hands down there as well.
The major diffrence is the 360 is $100cheaper imo the ps3'shardwareadvantage more than makes up for it. As for the wii avoid it i bought it and sold it.

ps3 has blu-raypswii23
Yea blu-ray is huge for meI only buy the blu-ray version dvd is dead to me it's like getting a free $600 player when you buy a ps3 and with linux it plays everything.

I would recommend the 360 in terms of games alone(if next gen movie player matters to you get ps3) the varity of the 360's lineup is really good(notice halo3 is the only shooter)
Halo 3
Mass Effect
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Eternal Sonata
PGR4
Ace Combat Six
Naruto Rise of a Ninja
console exclusives(also on PC to counter the cows lists which have UT3 and Haze in them)
World in Conflict
Bioshock
now if the majority of those games don't appeal to you don't get a 360, if the followingPS3 lineup is better for you get the PS3:
Heavenly Sword
Warhawk
Ratchet and Clank
Folklore
Uncharted
timed exclusives
UT3(360 version confirmed at e3 and will be released next year)
Haze
typical cows arguments:
"ring of death"- three year warranty, i dont care if sony has the best hardware this gen they cant guarantee you without a doubt that your ps3 will last three years.
For 2008 i would say get a PS3 because of the more hyped games like(killzone, FF, MGS) all come out then(of course we dont know 360's lineup yet but i highly doubt 360 can beat that.
If you really like RPGs, get the 360 cuz it has Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Bioshock, Eternal Sonota, and Lost Odessey all coming out this year. If u don't like RPGs and prefer action-adventure/shooting/platforming games, you can't go wrong with a PS3 this holiday season. They've got Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Haze, UT3, Ratchet and Clank, Lair, and Warhawk.
And of course, if you do buy a PS3, you will have an amazing year next year (MGS4, FFXIII, Killzone 2, LittleBig Planet, GT5) where as on 360 next year, you'll have a pretty okay year. I would say go with PS3.
help me choose. i am going to get one of these but which one is it gonnabe?

Because until MS fixes their defective rates, you're better off paying for a system that lasts for a lifetime. If you really want a 360, wait until they officially fix it.
don't get the 360 now. words on street has it that they will release a newer version with 65 nm chip to reduce heat.
if you don't want to play with a time bomb, then go with aPS 3. also Blu-ray is sweet since you've got a HDTV. also, i don't really like the XBL fees crap.

Now whichever list of games you like more, buy that one.
