i went in for an interview and to take a test for a game company on the westcoast. there were about 15 hardcore nerds there... i was intimidated by thier nerd'ness, i was like omg theres no way im going to beat THEM at getting this job, so we go downstairs and sit down. the interviewer gives us a test...after about 20min it was scored. I got 100% on the mutiple choice test. after that was the interview, he she asked me all kinds of questions about gaming and what do i know from each console, who makes them, what video card is in them, what do i want to see in the gaming future and all other types of questions. i get home and i get the call that i got the job!

i would say 60% of what they asked me i learned from systemwars. and the other 40% off sites like ign.com or whereever else.

so anyways thank you systemwars! i am now a "Quality Assurance Tester" i get to play games now and get paid :D :D :D

You do realize that your job is to play broken games and make notes...lots and lots of notes.

Think you might get tired of games and not even want to switch you consoles on when you get home?

EDIT: Make sure they tighten up the graphics! :)

You now work with mentally challenged and anger-problem children???? Glad we could help

Heshe? Yaa....

And I'm calling BS, if this is really working for a game company (development I would assume), they would have asked about your background in this area. Not about..this stuff.

Oh, nevermind, it's a "game" tester. If this is anything like what I did.....it's not what you think it is.

Basically, you/other kids in a varying age group are asked questions about what you think of something....I had to do this for a website, we were asked if we thought this was a better way to place icons and crap.

As fun as that may sound I do have some bad news (no it's not the low pay). :(

You will spend about 8 hours a day playing games to make sure they don't crash. There can be alot of crashes on the way.

But you may get lucky and may play games with low amounts crashes though.

Min wage I would guess. Prob depends on where you are. California might pay a few bucks over. Games have as many as a hundred testers. Its not a high paying job.

I'm sorry to hear you're now a game tester. that job would be hell for me, I can't stand having to play all the way through a bad game, but now you have to do it pausing every few seconds to take notes on any abnormalities:o

LOL it had testers, they just had strokes from the broken gameplay...that game is fundamentally flawed, I couldnt even finish it cause it was so bad.

It will change your thinking, you will be seeing problems in every game that you play. Its good if you want to get into the industry but bad if you just want to play it as a past time. Now that doesnt mean you cant still have fun, but it does make things diffrent.

Congratulations.

Just be warned that Quality Assurance Testing, though it sounds like a dream job at first glance (being paid to play video games), is actually not as hot as it sounds. I am sure you will understand in due time, but I can almost guarantee that it is not something you will want to be doing for too long an extended period of time. Hopefully the job can be a sort of "stepping-stone" for youinto more interesting (and lucrative) work in the video game industry...

Anyways, once again, congratulations.

Congrats, although as roughly 20 other people have said, its not just getting paid to play games. Unless you plan on using that job to break into the gaming industry I'd quit now, your first jobs tend to "haunt" you.

Wow, great way to destroy your love for gaming, by becoming a game tester. Your hobby is about to go down the toilet for minimum pay to boot. Well congratulations but you'll hate your job, game testing sucks balls, I speak from experience. IT almost destroyed my favourite hobby, in fact it pretty much did, i only play games 1-2 hours a week nowadays.

RIP
