That's Enough

Enough with the "Nintendo is for kiddies" arguments. I've been hearing this since the SNES era and I'm sick of it; don't you people see that you are just an extension of Nintendo's competitors' marketing propaganda? It's not true that all Nintendo games are kiddy, you just keep saying it because it makes you feel better about being a Sony fanboy (or Sega, etc.).

Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros., Conduit, Far Cry, and Madworld are not kiddy. Your system is only as kiddy as the amount of kiddy games you buy on it. You can buy a Wii and only play "mature" titles on it, believe it or not. Just because your system has E rated games on it doesn't mean you have to buy them all.

Banjo looks kiddy, but people don't call the 360 a kiddy system, and Little Big Planet looks kiddy, but people don't call the PS3 kiddy.

Time for everyone to grow up and stop lying about the Wii being kiddy, or Nintendo in general, because we all know that it's ultimately not true.

This belongs with the corresponding thread, but you're exactly right. Nintendo does support mature titles.

However nintendo's first party games, which are the main selling point of its systems, are marketed towards children.

I hate the fact that Nintedo isn't releasing a worthy game this year, not that I don't dislike the wii, but the lack of games it has... Too much child's play. BlackShadowCat

I'd agree that this isn't Nintendo's best year software-wise; but that doesn't mean that Nintendo systems are inherently kiddy.

"Everyone" is just a euphenism for "children's appeal". Disney movies, Pokemon, Barney, and Sesame Street also chant the "appeal to all ages" mantra, and yet the kids are what are drawn most to its allure.

What console manufacturer wouldn't say they marketed to everyone? At any rate, it's not accurate. Nintendo is open and proud about it's line of family-friendly first party titles. Third parties do release more mature content on the platform, but they know that they can reach a bigger market on the 360 and PS3 if they're making a rated "M" game. That's not to say that Nintendo first-parties don't appeal to older gamers, but I do find them to be far too childish to be enjoyable most of the time, and I own a Wii. I've never been a fan of most of Nintendo's first parties aside from Mario, so if that's any indication, I like grittier, more worldly games.OrwellJames

Yeah but were those games even developed by Nintendo? Yeah, they're not kiddy but the ones that are actually produced by the big boys are obviously aimed at younger audiences.

They don't call those kiddy systems because their respectable libraries aren't overdosed with games like that. Unlike Nintendo, who's top Wii games are Mario, Zelda, Wario, and more Mario. Besides that, a game like LBP seems more complex and deep to be played by kids. The sack characters are just the game's gimmick.

Nintendo obviously does target a young audience. But that's not to say that the games that Nintendo does produce can't be enjoyed by older people. Galaxy and Brawl go right up there on the list of some of my favorite games.

Ok but Sony hooks us up with awesome hardware, blu ray, amazing online (free of charge), great downloadables etc... Nintendo can barely get online down. Hell, Super Mario Sluggers doesn't even have online. And what Sony may lack in first party is made up for in 3rd party games (multiplats included).

And about those games you just listed, I thought Rare created Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and didn't Sega create Sonic and House of the Dead? Why would you list them down just because they're on a Nintendo console?
