The 360 would sell great in Japan...if Sony or Nintendo owned it.

These are just the JRPG's. Then others like Ikaruga and other games too. Why isn't it big in Japan? Why don't these games sell so well? Because it's on a Microsoft console. It's the only thing that makes sence. So far the 360 easily beats the PS3 in terms of Japanese aimed games yet the PS3 beats it every month, hell it could even give the Wii a run for its money. It only sold 1000 units this month. That is truely awful.
Hell if I was Microsoft I'd either forget Japan or remove every trace of western gaming from it. Name change, new look, new icon, everything. Make it completely Japanese. Hell even give it an anime character as its mascot. Maybe then it would sell more because if you look at the stats...well it should be selling pretty damn well.
Look at the PSP. It isn't beating the DS, not even close, but when a new popular game comes out it sells like crazy and even beats the DS for a few months. That should be how it is with the 360 but it's biggest seller sold **** all.

If games like Lost Odyessy were on the Wii, PS2 or PS3 it would sell TONS.

JRPGs are not the greatest genre in Japan, really.

Same way the PS3 would do better in America if MS owned it :|

Possibly. It seems to me that the Japanese have the "Buy Japanese" mentality; similar to how Americans used to with "Buy American". I remember watchin a new story how a grass-roots movement in Japan had started to try and get Japanese citizens to buy Japanese made motorcycles, because Harley-Davidson had become the #1 seller. Same story, different product.

That's an interesting take.
The 360 might not have the RRoD if Nintendo or Sony owned it.
There wouldn't even be a 360 if Nintendo or Sony owned it.
All of those games wouldn't be exclusive if Sony or Nintendo owned it.
These are some interesting takes as well.

It seems that Microsoft have made a large attempt in the Japanese market, but it has shifted to more casual games and parlour games. The arcade industry there is still goign well, but it's not the huge shining mecca it once was. The Xbox 360 is holding it's own and it seems to have a libray of games suited to core gamers, but the mass market of Japan has moved on from the core games and on to less challenging titles, training simulators and half baked games. Still, the core Japanese gaming industry that makes games for worldwide audiences have thrown support behind the console, which is why you're even seeing the likes of Square make games for it, exclusives for it, and the like.

Microsoft aren't making an impression on the Japanese gaming public, but the Japanese development community is behind them.

North America is lead in sales for HDTV's i think.. can't remember and too lazy to check up, but its possible that the HD consoles are not selling as well due to lack of superior visuals since less people over there have HDTV sets, so the sales suffer for both PS3 and 360... where the wii shines since it all looks the same to the japanese. Why spend all the extra $$ for graphics on an SDTV when you can pay less and get a wii with the novelty motion controls. Thats why I think the ps3 and 360 aren't doing well in Japan ... plus Japansese are picky about quality of hardware, and thus the RROD scares them.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think of it. I feel like its one of two things, and I hope one of them isnt what the case is in Japan.

Either M$, being a western company, doesnt understand how to market to the Eastern culture...

Or its bias against the west.

this is what they should do
call themself miko sakura (instead of microsoft)
change the console name to Xstation 360 and have it pink colored like sakura leaves instead of limegreen as theme color
relaunch Halo 3 with anime mecha robots instead of master chief

bundle it with Dead or alive stuff or lost oddessy
instant win, I swear

I dont mean to sound raciast but Japan doesn't like American products..heck even Europe isn't too fond of American products..one might go as far as to call them racist in that sense. They have a sense of national pride of sorts or atleast an anti-American product pride.

LOL, I 'll call it a lemon then, I went that RRoD and read disk route, thats not for me. People always say electronics break, but T.V.'s are on more then the 360, they dont over heat, microwave dont break down after 6 months, VHS players still works.

I'm not saying that electronics dont break, but the 360 has a lot more goin on with it.

If sony or nintendo owned it, they wouldnt call it Xbox. The symbol X is a negative connotation in Japan, and the people from MS should have made a better marketing decision when branding the system in Japan. They fail for their own ignorance in understanding the cultural differences of that market.

Or maybe it would sell better if it had games they liked...just listing 10 JRPG's doesn't mean they'll buy one, they don't only play those games you know, they play other genres but apparently none of the ones they like are on 360, I think most Japanese bought a PS3 for Final Fantasy and MGs, and they bought a Wii for the Nintendo games, and other 3rd party games like Monster Hunter 3.

doubt it..

if PS3 were released the same day with the 360... i just dont know...

also i think PS2 players are hoping for a better system hardware for the PS3 not with a 33% failure rate

No..not at all. Both the Wii and PS3 are selling well in America. The 360 has almost completely stopped selling in Japan.

We know this. And yet the 360 sales are still great. Go figure.

How do you define "great"? Barely breaking even with the PS3 in North America and lagging in Europe and Japan?

It did for two months, and last month the 360 only beat it by 5k. Let's watch a few more months' worth of sales before saying that the 360 is beating the PS3 in NA, neh?

And tell me, how does outselling its rival -- which is more expensive and has fewer games -- by ONLY 5,000 units qualify as "great"?

You're right, it's not coming from Japan, it's coming from the one year head start the 360 had.

Sorry, I just think that CURRENT sales figures are more important than past sales when it comes to determining CURRENT health.

Yeah yeah yeah. 360 head start. 360 RROD. Live isn't free.. I've heard it all. Why do you even care so much? You own both systems..
