On topic..it doesnt play PS2 games...how is that so watered down? It still has Blu Ray and wifi, it really isnt that bad of a deal. 60gb for 500 is the best one though.

Not really buddy. The only thing its missing is BC. A feature which many lemmings actually bashed PS3 for saying its pointless. It still has Wifi, Blu-ray, and a standard HDD. Just gives people a choice to still get a fully functional PS3 for a cheaper price without some of the extras. And it can still can use USB drives for memory cards so the card slots aren't necessary either.

The Core 360 is far far more watered down missing a HDD (no BC without a HDD either!)... and 360 doesn't even have standard Wifi or HDDVD.

Much like how Xbox Core is? Apart from the BC for PS2 games being taken out (Which may or may not be restricted just to UK and other SCEEE regions), I'd say it's still a fair enough console. Multi-memory card slows thrown away? Use discs. Only two USB ports? Is it really that much of a loss? For example, with the Xbox, if you're using a Wi-Fi adapter in the back USB port, what are you left with? Two USB ports. PS3 already has built-in Wifi, so it's about equal standing. For the flash cards, you need to get a USB Flash card reader already for the 360, so get one for the 40GB as well.

It's not really much of a downgrade, if you truly compare it to already existing electronic units. It's for the affordable consumer who's not willing to dish out for all the flash and shine. Much like HD televisions, there's more bang for your buck. If anything the BC is what makes it a downgrade, yet I do not believe confirmations has been made for US on it's specs and or if a Firmware update could change it's BC later on.

They had to get a cheaper model out there so I disagree and I think it is a much needed move , watered down of not. Everything is upgradeable except ps2 b/c. I don't believe that the loss of ps2 b/c is going to be a hugeproblem for the majority of gamers.

It does get warm though. Mine gets warm and so does my friends PS3's. Even if it has the 65nm cpu, it'll still get warm. That's not going to cut down on all the heat and removing any ventilation that helps in the slightest way is just silly.

the memory card reader wasn't for ps2 or ps1 memory card you have an adaptor that so it wasn't needed also 2 usb is pretty good for an average gamer.

Some people like to transfer files, pictures, videos, etc. via memory card readers. I personally use both discs and readers.

I think it will be fine because most of the airflow is from the right side and back right side of the system.

WHY? This is perfectly fine. I'll get this hopefully 2008 Q4. I have a PS2 already so no biggie with the no BC.

I just want it bundled with a decent game no matter what the price drop is.
