Here you go.
And keep in mind, this attacks everyone in the industry, so if you go all "but Ninty/Sony isn't like that" he finds ways to attack you too.

Don't get how technology is going backwards?
I didn't read the article yet but my assumption is that the general population does not need new technology and will in fact settle for old technology if the gimmick is advertised well enough. The article is more or less saying we're dumbing down the way we play games, given the Star Wars Kinect game, how the WiiU controller resembles an iPad, and how you can jump in PS Vita games by tapping the screen.I enjoyed Nintendo's conference. Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel.
it's kinda sad realizing that in the FPS pic.
I plan on picking up 5 of those (BF3, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon Online, Resistance 3 and Prey 2). Also all of them being sequels to each of the franchises. Still totally excited for them.
I guess the one thing i'm worried about is the business model, I do believe that it is eventually going to burn out consumers too far.
It's pretty much accurate. I hate this generation in games :(. There's been a few I've liked....but very very few. I'm content playing some early 00's and late 90s games I've missed....man I miss those days...Q_QLethalhazard
I feel the same exact way. The PS2/Gamecube generation was the absolute best. I blame Halo and CoD for the FPS and online multiplayer obsession that plagues this generation of video games. I'm dissapointed to see Naughty Dog, the developer that made one of my favorite games of all time, Jak and Daxter, hop aboard the shooter/online multiplayer bandwagon.

I had actually a pretty good read, but this particularly image is so **** dumb. Neither of the games in there plays anything alike. You could apply the same logic to every other genre as well...
I know haha thats why I thought it was funny, I guess hes mad you have to AIM in shooters
I agree with this article, especially about the fps's. Seriously, take a step back, and look at both BF3 and MW3, and you realize that they are the same fricken game. Both will most probably have short sp's, both meant to be played in mp, both will be in the modern era, both will be too monetized (too much/overpriced DLC), both will be the duck behind cover, aim down your sight, shoot, and repeat kind of game. Basically what I am trying to say is that both have the same basic gameplay concepts. I know one is more team-based, while the other is run and gun, and that one will have bigger maps and vehicles, while the other is more focussed on the soldier, but seriously, you are doing the same exact thing in both games, with the same exact weapons, in the same exact setting/era, with the same exact controls.
Oh yea and kinect fricken blows too.
I made a thread a few days ago complaining about these exact same things. Wasn't very popular. But the author of this article is so much more comprehensive. This is exactly what I hate about the gaming industry now. Wtf is with the touch controls for Uncharted on the PSV. Where's the challenge and the fun in that?
It's a mess. The way the industry's going, it's all going to tank or we'll see another revolution again.

Yeah, kind of sad. I blame CoD for most of it. Before Call of Duty 4, it wasn't nearly this bad.
And that article is probably the most depressing thing I've ever read, because it's right on Every. Single. Point. My God, this industry is f***ed.

Blame the devolopers, for taking the paved road, for lacking inspiration and creativity. Why blame it on a freaking game?
When your game makes more money than Avatar on a yearly basis, people are going to imitate it. That and developers are lazy and publishers are greedy, money-grubbing f***heads.[QUOTE="GeoffZak"]

Correction. Gamers are f'd.
That article is full of truth, but what bugs me the most is the whole "99 cent gaming" notion.:|
Edit: btw, it's true, that's why it bugs me.:P

Everyone just wants a piece of that Call of Duty pie, from Square Enix to BioWare. And they are trying so hard to get it. It's kind of pathetic, really.Cracked said the videogame industry was destined to crash this gen. so... lol. Ninja-HippoAll the things they mentioned are problems, and they are going to affect us sooner or later.

Its mostly because of money. Publishers don't want to spend millions on a new IP that might suck.I'm a longtime fan of the site (and the guy who wrote the article), so I thought it was a great read.
I have to admit it is a bit too bleak for the sake of comedy. Shooters are the in thing right now, but last gen it was open world games, and before that I remember 3D action games and before that it was platformers.
Once this gen is over we'll have some other great thing to love if we've gotten sick of semi realistic military shooters. If not then I love shooters so that's fine by me.
It's getting to the point where I hope next gen flops and gaming sees another "revolution". Old studios would close and new ones would eventually arise. Maybe things would feel fresh and creative afterward. Wouldn't bother me since I have a massive backlog of quality games from last gen consoles and PC.
I kind of agree with this. And you know the really talented studios and game makes would survive such a crash. A reset would be pretty good for the industry. It's getting to the point where I hope next gen flops and gaming sees another "revolution". Old studios would close and new ones would eventually arise. I loved the article.
But having played iphone games i can't realize how they can steal Sony/Nintendo's thunder. Farmville is making millions no doubt, but that because it attracts lots of people that didn't play before.
Anyways i wonder how next gen will be, and how long this "next gen" future will last.
"Creative bankruptcy"... LOL this guy is just spewing nonsense. We're in the golden age of gaming right now, and no one seem to realize it.
You guys remember the good old days when all games were great, innovative and different??? Me neither.
Sure there is an abundance of developers making greens of rehashing "known winners " but there's also those who are taking chances and the pushing limits of what games are (and perhaps more importantly) what games can be.
5-10 years from now some whiny dudes (maybe on these very boards) will complain about the newest "Super Swords 3" and how gaming back in '11 was "teh best evar!". I guarantees it.
IMO

Man so true.
Nintendo's Press Conference was like the only Press Conference where I felt somewhat free of the First Person Shooters.
"instead of making games that explore new worlds and experiences, design becomes all about addiction and repetition."
This, this is the problem with the industry today.
And it's all Call of Duty 4's fault. Well, it and social gaming."instead of making games that explore new worlds and experiences, design becomes all about addiction and repetition."
This, this is the problem with the industry today.
