I just noticed something today that really bugged me. Its the fact that the best game for each system has got 9.5 with each gamespot reviewer. Crysis got 9.5 (PC), Mario got 9.5 (Wii) and Halo 3 got 9.5 (360). Does anybody think that any game will get over this 9.5 score? Think about it, with the scores that all these games have got who here is willing to bet that MGS4 (PS3) will get a 9.5 also.pokajabba
mgs will get a soldid 9.0, quote me on that one, not a 9.5. PS3 has no chance for a 9.5 exclusive ever , FFXIII really is the only game with that chance.
Actually this gives me another theory...Gamespot are probably giving the best games 9.5 to stop people throwing in your face insults and Pwned!!!111!!11! crap at each other on this board. So if they give the 9.5 scores out hopefully it will reduce argueing slightly because the best games get an equal fair score. Well whatever at least its a somewhat plausible theory.

I just hope the 9.5 score isn't the new 10.pokajabba
Its not
"I do agree that a 10 should never be used, even though its in the scale. Main reason being that reviews and scores are subjective. A 10 would imply that a game is so great that everyone will love it and want to play it."Maybe on your own double-secret personal review scale. On ours, it means that the game couldn't be improved upon in any meaningful way, given current standards for that game's platform. As part of the review change, we relabeled 10.0 as "Prime" instead of "Perfect." The meaning of the score hasn't really changed, but too many people couldn't handle the concept of perfect meaning "perfect... given current standards for that game's platform and blah blah blah blah blah." It was sort of silly and overly confusing that way, I agree. We will give a 10 again someday, by the way. I occasionally see people saying "GameSpot said they'd never give another 10." That's insane and we've never, ever said that.Jeff
who cares, the best game of all time in my opinion is Starcraft, and that's a 10 in my book. That number is just one man's/woman's opinion, that's it.

Well thats understandable but the scores should go at least a little higher than the 9.5 that the best games are getting. As in maybe a 9.6. I guess time will only tell...
[QUOTE="Bansheesdie"][QUOTE="naval"]i think spore has a good chance of getting a 10naval
GTA IV will get it first IMO
I think gta 4 would even find it difficult to get a 9.5, lets see
Why is that?

Gamespot just wants PC, Wii and 360 gamers to all have something in common so we can more effectively mock Sony, the PS3 and its fanbase.

first i am not a big fan of the series so i may not be follwoing it so closely as you. to me it seems like somewhat same as gta 3 with same old city. so is there anything special you are looking forward to ?

Well it is one giant city, yes it is Liberty City again but it is much larger. 4 of the 5 burrows from NYC are included one of those being from New Jersey. The city is one city, after you load up the game there are no load screens, even when transitioning from indoors to outdoors.
Combat has been completely overhauled, think of it as a combination of classic GTA and Gears of War st-yle duck and cover. So you are able to peak around a corner but also able to duck behind concrete barriers such as ramps and other objects that you would expect to find in NYC.
The mission structure has also been redone, and is no longer based on you going to a point to find some people who tell you to go and kill someone and then go to a Pay-N-Spray to loose your police notoriety. There is none of that now, Liberty City is not a video game city with Police Bribes lieing around that you can use to reduce your notoriety. Now you have to evade and escape the police to escape. If you can't do that they will follow you until they kill you.
Back to the missions, you are given a high-tech phone (think along the lines of an iPhone capabilities) that people call you on after you meet with them throughout the game and they will tell you what to do. Read this for an inside look at a mission, that is insane the depth and realism that Rockstar has gone for this time around.
Then there is the multiplayer, which is also a combination of Gears and GTA. The big rumor is that GTA IV will support 16 players who will run around unknown areas in the same sty-le as Gears. Not much is known about GTA IV online.
no matter how good a game is, it has room for improvement, right?itzmec
Right, and that is why 10 now means Prime instead of Perfect.
This exceedingly rare score refers to a game that is as perfect as a game can aspire to be at its time of release. Obviously, the constantly changing standards for technology and gameplay will probably make this game obsolete some day, but at its time of release, a game earning this score could not have been improved upon in any meaningful way.
