Well the opposite version of this thread was doing well so I thought I would let people discuss what the the best controller they've ever used is. I would have to go with the DS3 (I have added some 'real trigger' attatchments on the L2&R2 buttons though). I know alot of people dislike the DS controller but over the course of Sony's consoles I have just grown very used to it, I quite like the fact that Sony kept the design of their controller, like I said it has let me stay farmiliar with the controls. Anyway what is the best controller everyone has used?

The wiimote is in its own crazy nitendoland league. So I will go with best traditional gamepad.

I like the 360 controller, but that d-pad is atrocious. It almost forces one to buy an arcade stick for Virtua Fighter 5.

DS3 in my opinion, followed by the 360 controller and the SNES controller.

I would have to say the DS3. I love everything about it. Second would be the wiimote and 3rd would be 360.

It's kinda funny to think the 360's D pad is an improved version of the original Xbox's S controller. :P They need to do something to fix the D pad for the next Xbox. When they do that it'll be flawless IMO.

There are different aspects of different controllers that I like. When it comes to analog sticks, I'd go with Dreamcast. It may have only have one, but dang was that thing responsive. The GCN, Nunchuk, and even the SixAxis (to a slightly lessor degree) sticks are also pretty smooth. The DualShock1/2 and Xbox controller sticks feel pretty rigid and unresponsive by comparison.

In terms of grip, I'd put the Wiimote on top. Functionality wise, while I liked the VMUs, I'm still going to give the Wiimote the edge just because of the pointer (which is more "innovative" than the motion sensing itself, IMO). And when it comes to d-pads, I give equal points to dreamcast and Nintendo controllers (all). I just find the t-shape works best for me.

The N64 controller was easily one of the best controller for any 3d games :platformer and FPS.

The SNES controller is easily the best for any 2d stuff.

The 360. I don't like the D-pad very much, but if it had a d-pad similar to the Gamecube or something, then it's definitely a winner.

DS3. perfect dpad, perfect face buttons, great shoulder buttons, triggers could use some work but ive gotten used to them, decent placement of analog sticks (could use an indent like the 360 controller though)

Yeah, it's a wonder why Sony abandoned those after the dual-analog...

i always loved the dreamcast controller. but even though the 360 controller is super comfy and well designed, i actually prefer the ps3 controller. it just takes some adjustment going back and forth

Although it probably doesn't make alot of difference, the 360 thumbsticks does have 4 little bumps on the rim of the indent.

I have always loved the Playstation controller since I 1st held it a decade ago. I am glad Sony didn't radically change it, the controller is great for my favourite genre's like fighting, action/adventure. Best controller ever in my mind

The best controller for me hands down would be The Duke for the XboX. That controller you can tell was made specifically for The Halo: Combat Evolved.

Technically all of this gen's controllers can turn on and off their respective system. It's just that the 360 and PS3 make you go through a menu for the latter (turning off), whereas it's just one step for the Wii.

Really? Ah well, when you're as lazy as me that kind of convenience just can't be underestimated.

I love both the Dual Shock and Gamecube controller, particulalrly the 'cube since the buttons are nice and squishy, but with both controllers I find them to be too short and leave me with no where to put my little fingers/pinkies, so sometimes it can get uncomfortable.

I am not a fan of the 360 controller due to the shape doesn't feel right to me and the d-pad just doesn't work. The Sixaxis apart from the shortness is very nice to use as I really like the lightness of it feels like something I could use for hours on end. The Wiimote just fits into my hand perfectly and is weighted nicely.

But my favourite is the Xbox Controller S, I literally can't think of any complains against it, the d-pad could be better but its no where nearly as bad as the 360's and it feels more comfortable.

Quick Edit: I love using my laptop's touchpad for games, particularly for FPS games as I find it to be more accurate and intuitive than a mouse. Same with the DS's touch screen, I played the Metroid demo more than any other game on the console.
