Its FEAR

No other Horror game engaged and addict me like this one. no amnesia, soma or other boring walking simulator or most overrated franchise like resident evil crap. This is the only Horror game that has a Great gameplay mechanics and combat. infact this game still has best combat/shooting in any video game ever. slo mo is so freaking cool it feel like Matrix the video game or Max payne in FPS with horror elements. its sad sequels are terrible compare to this masterpiece.

so do you think FEAR is still best Horror game ever??

FEAR is not a horror game. It has horror elements but it's an Action game IMO. Horror based creatures are barely a threat or cause of player's death. I think the real horror of the game is in soldier AI.

It always keeps you on your toes and you never know when you will be ambushed by clever bastards. I think Silent Hill 2 and System Shock 2 are best horror games of all time.

Resident Evil 4 isn't scary at all. It's horror only in aesthetic, it's a brilliant action game though. Fear is great too, it just doesn't have the combat variety RE4 has. Get less shitty taste and standards sniper. You are like poverty uninspired. A poor mans' Cloud Imperium. A diet Masterrace.

Now Silent Hill 2 is one of gamings greatest achievements. And it's an exceptional work of horror in any medium.

resident evil 4 has bad combat while FEAR has best combat in any game bar none. FEAR is better in every aspect except maybe level design because FEAR is too linear corridor office to office but still much better game in every way

saving president daughter everytime while is dumb imo. i give resi 4 a chance when PC HR remaster released but i couldnot play it more. I just cant stand its controlling.

but FEAR 2 is incredibly dumbed down introducing iron sight, more brighty and and highlighting enemies. ah and Fear 3. that is so colorful and sunny.

That speaks volumes of your own ignorance of how RE4's shooting systmes work, and decades upon decades of great video games built around testing the player with a limitation put on them. It's the equivalent of bitching about how Stalker's guns aren't all that accurate. Continue my child, I'll wait for you uninformed rebuttal.

F.E.A.R is a great game, no doubt. The expansions were exceptional.

Other decent horror games would be Dead Space 2, the evil within and Doom 3.

Oh, and by the way I DON'T F'ING CARE IF IT'S SCARY OR NOT!!! I hate it when people rate down games because they're not "scary" enough. Like, who give a f*?

Nah, it has a couple of jump scares. The game was pretty good but not as good as its made out to be by some people here.

As for RE4, that wasnt scary at all and its a below average, boring game with annoying and clunky gameplay mechanics.

Nah. It's good, but the scary parts just felt taken from The Ring. It's too unoriginal for me to call it the best. And the scary parts aren't even close to the scariness in Silent Hill 2.

There is nothing to discuss except TC's inability to see what an actual horror game is.

How can you put Fear over Silent HIll 2 or any Silent Hill as the best horror game.

This thread is about the best horror game, though. If people don't find FEAR scary (for example), or if they find other games more scary, FEAR obviously isn't going to be their pick.

Rating down a game in a review for not being scary would be a bit weird, I agree, unless the game is all about being scary but fails at it.

I never even saw Fear as a pure horror game. It was more of an action game for me. Even Stalker had more horror in it.

That said, i still think Amnesia is the most bone-chilling game i've played. I used to think that Fatal Frame and Silent Hills were scary before that.

If I wanted the pinnacle of shitty jump scares, I would just play Doom 3 instead.

Also, Fear was never that great as an action game. It sure did look pretty, but that's all it managed to do well. All the shootouts in that game are easy as ****. It would probably be a much better shooter if they simply took out the slow mo ability and balanced the game for fast paced action battles.. That slow mo power just trivializes all the gunplay and turns the game into a spectacle shooter.

Factually speaking System Shock 2 is the best horror game of all time (significantly better than Silent Hill 2) however as an action- horror game, it seems F.E.A.R. is definitely one of the best. When it comes to plain, kinetic shooting mechanics - it's difficult to argue anything is better.

@uninspiredcup: Looks like your comment got deleted by accident.

Pretty much any popular horror game listed is inspired or outright ripped off from movies.

Fear = The Ring/John Woo

Alan Wake/Silent Hill/Deadly Preminition = Twin Peaks

System Shock 1/2 = Aliens/Event Horizon

Resident Evil 4 = The Thing

Doom 3 = Event Horizon\Alien

Dead Space = Event Horizon\Alien

RE 1/2/3 = NOTLD

Labeling Fear the exception to rule big bullshits.

Yeah, I agree most horror games are inspired by movies or TV shows, and it's not just FEAR that was inspired by a move (The Ring). So yeah, good point. As for Event Horizon... it was surprisingly good movie. Very underrated.

FEAR is a good game, but the scares become a little bit predictable after a while. Best horror game of all time if that's the only horror game you have ever played.

That title still belongs to Silent Hill 2, the first 15 minutes of that game are some of the scariest i've ever played in any game.

Problem with the game in general - in Halflife 2 (which ironically has weak shooting) the player goes from rooftops, to train-lines, to sewers, to canals and eventually a complete shift in tone to Ravenholm. All the way, not even at the halfway mark changing up the gameplay in some form.

Fears impressive AI and godlike shooting mechanic's stand pretty much the sole aspect holding it up - it's variety is decidedly lacking.

I love it. I think gamers in their infinite wrongdum go overkill by saying it's this like deep philosophical thing, because lol come on. But It properly conveys its messaging through the systems in the actual game, what you are playing has a lot of connection to what is being said, there is exceptional build up, it's reasonably well paced, and the payoffs merit a level of just stepping back and digesting everything you just played through.

It challenges the player enough, without getting into "it's just making you think about needless bullshit to give you the impression the game is smarter than it is" territory, but even on a basic level that story works. I'd say the acting could be better, but there is a low rent charm to it all. Remake maybe a more enjoyable "game" in the sense that any combat scenario in Silent Hill 2 is the worst fucking thing ever, but as a piece of horror fiction, and just fiction in general I don't say it lightly when I say Silent Hill 2 is one of this medium's greatest achievements. It's a story that only a game could properly get across, unlike some of the other great games which story wise are poor man's version of shit done by Hollywood, System Shock 2 included. But again, that requires one to not be ignorant of other story telling mediums.

That game is class all the way. 1 and 3 are fantastic games as well, like fucking fantastic, and 2 is like clearly superior. That's how fucking good that game is.

They need to remake this game, and I have a feeling they will.
