The best Open world game this gen?

Hello friends,

So current gen almost ended. almost. only few weeks left and nearly all games released now and now from further games will be next/cross gen. current gen was full of open world gen so here we choose whats the best open world games we played shall we?

I was hoping Cyberpunk would become best open world game this gen but it delayed further to next gen since its launching on next gen and current gen same day and is officially next gen game.

I played almost every open world game this gen.

Far cry 4, 5 and primal suck compare to Far cry 2 and to some extent Far cry 3 too. and far cry 2 is still best open world game imo.

Just cause 2 is still best third person open world game crap all over GTAs but 3 and 4 are bad.

MGS5 was boring. witcher 3 was dull and boring and probably most overrated game this gen.

RDR2 is also slow, boring and tedious which also happened to be one of the most overrated game but it nail western world, graphics, animation although gameplay suck.

Black Flag was great but it was last gen game i guess and current AC games back to being boring.

so compare to all open world games heres only game came to my mind when thinking of best current gen open world game is no other than.

Batman Arkham Knight

Despite it being worst in main trilogy (although far better than origins) its still great game and leaps and bound better than any open world game released this gen till today. sure it has flaws like batmobile combat but game atmosphere is incredible. always rain and batman getting wet looks badass. story is also great and atmospheric involving mind games. combat is simple one button but it get better and challenging after we face different kind of enemies. overall its more fun and fluid than any other open world game this gen.

Generation was full of open world and majority of them are just boring and repetetive. Batman imo offer alot more.

so my friends, what is the best open world game released this gen as generation now ended. its ended.

The Witcher 3 is the best open world game and best overall game of the gen.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild destroys all.

Assassin’s Creed Origins would be mine pick tbh. I just loved the setting and the new style for Assassin’s Creed. Then in Odyssey it got a bit stale, even though I enjoyed that one too.

Second pick would be the Witcher 3.

Witcher 3. Nuff said!

Easily Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild. I loved Arkham Knight and AC Origins/Odyssey as well.

1) Witcher 3

3) AC Odyssey

• Prey + Mooncrash DLC
• Breath of the Wild (despite the world being severely un-rewarding)
• The Witcher 3 (despite the world being more unrewarding that BOTW)

For me i'd have to go with Elite: Dangerous, if that technically counts.

The thing, even with stuff like BOTW, I can clearly see the design and boundary from the get go.

When you start playing Elite, it feels like anything could happen and you can go anywhere and do whatever you want. It truly has a sense of wonder to it games use to give me as a kid but simply do not give now.

The downside, or rather, achilles heel to it lacking the designers direction is that it can lead to monotony, and an eventual wall of it's own hit as once you'd done all their is to be done, what not?

But within the context of the game experience at its prime, wowza. I'll cherish that shit.

I could say Prey but its semi sandbox game more of. not fully open world.

the witcher 3

Witcher 3 without a doubt.

Ghost of Tsushima for now Cyberpunk 2077 will probably be my favorite if they ever decide to release it.

Outer Wilds

For me its a tossup between RDR2 and Witcher 3

Its a next gen game now officially. releasing after next gen consoles and on both.

game like this cant be current gen. its miracle that it was a current gen game.

I wouldn't called Cyberpunk next gen. It's designed for current gen systems. Currently, my choice is between BotW and GoT.

It actually design for PC. its miracle its working on current gen consoles.

game is waay too ambitious and ahead of its time.

3. Red Dead Redemption II
4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
5. Either Death Stranding or Ghost of Tsushima

I'm a huge Batman fan and Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are two of my ≈ top 20 all time favourite games, but Arkham Knight was underwhelming...

yeah people complain a lot about that game but never about the environment.

Simply breathtaking. It's one of the few open-world games where I don't use fast travel.

The best open world game of all time is

not counting STALKER since its more of sandbox.

no open world game impressed me as much as Far cry 2 still.

Roach goes as fast as Geralt needs. Besides... Geralt hates portals. hehe :)

LOL at FarCry 2. Some cool systems in place, but such a terrible game.

Either I sucked at Arkham Knight or half of its late game enemy encounters were really annoying.

Breath of the Wild is my pick

Theres actually freedom in main mission and is not hand holdy like later FC games, GTA or RDR2.

It offer insane amount of freedom actually.

beside that, It did whole open world realism much and much better than RDR2.

The Witcher 3 easily! Other of note would be farcry 5 and BOTW imo, both great games in their own right.

Also lol worthy to nominate Arkham knight, that game was so bad and buggy that it singlehanded manages to destroy a hugely popular franchise... and even after it got patches( somewhat..) it was still easily the worst game In the series...

Sunset Overdrive

RDR2, BotW and... Mad Max.

For now its RDR2, but it does have issues, lots of them. It is the most immersive open world game there is, tho.

But CP2077 is around the corner. Why even mention anything else when its open world related? It is guaranteed to set a new standard for the next 5-8 years.

RDR2 is only immersive when you are not in main mission. you go into main mission and break all immersion because main missions are incredibly scripted and handholding.

of course Cyberpunk will set standard for next decade. theres no doubt about that but it will release after current gen end.

Anything ghosts hates.

And lol far cry 2 being best anything.

The Witcher 3 and BotW. I think I'm going to give it to The Witcher 3 though as my personal choice. Both are must plays imho.

mgsv probably had the best core gameplay but that didn't have an awful lot to do with the open world, other than giving the ability to infiltrate an area from any angle at any time of day.

hzd was probably the best imo. highly polished, varied, challenging, great premise, story, pace and lovely visuals. it didn't really do anything new but what it did, as a package, was better than any other open world game i've played. they all fell down in one area or another to the detriment of the overall experience for me but hzd didn't have that obvious achilles heel.

Breath of the Wild... I mean the world is everything in that game. Its your tutorial, your map, your guide arrows, your companion, your enemy. I also dont see any game with a bigger world than this.

Hands down the best open world game this gen, and if you disagree you are going to like my 2nd answer even less!

Just Cause 3 or 4.

The tether alone and the multitude of uses it has to interact with the world beats everything else hands down.

Oh i'm talking when it comes to fun, not graphics or story, that shits boring.

Far Cry 4 I suppose.

Batman Arkham Knight is a mediocre game and a terrible end to a great trilogy.

As for the best, without a doubt Horizon Zero Down and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

Last expansion for witcher 3

Huge seamless world with mechs. Exploration was awesome in this game.

Until CDPR either takes it with CP2077 or not...

Some of my favorites: Red Dead Redemption 2, Prey (2017), Outer Wilds, and Mad Max, and Breath of the Wild.

As far as open world GaaS goes, Destiny and Division series own this.

Many Souls-like games also fall under this category but I feel that deserves a whole topic itself.

Its nice to see someone who knows that the WiiU is a current gen console. Most people think the Switch is a current gen console lol.

Edit: Wait.. I'm just gonna get the answer "it's a handheld", right?

Well tech wise its last gen, but the WiiU started this gen, and it doesn't need to release the same time as XB1/PS4 for that to happen.

As we know the Wii won last gen with most sales, so when its successor comes out, well it starts a new gen, its pretty simple to follow but MANY people on here associate next gen with more power which is not a necessity, and definitely not the rule.
