So what do you guys think is the best "milked" franchise? According to my count there have been 48 Final Fantasy games and every release is still pretty well received. It's pretty tough to keep a series going since the NES days but other than Final Fantasy and Mario I don't think another series can compete. Thoughts?
Well the only true milked franchises are the ones from Activizion. And maybe the Wii series. And it used to be Ratchet and Clank also, but Insomniac has really lowered down on those games since last gen. So I'll go Wii series before COD or Guitar Hero.
Mario as a franchise is milked considering he's put in everything That said while his minigames, his sports games, and the piece of crap Super Paper Mario(Paper Mario Thousand Year Door was amazing, how do you follow up amazing with that garbage?) are trash. I will gladly say that both Mario Galaxy games are excellent. Sure people will argue it's not as "deep, rewarding, engaging" as stuff in other genres, or that it tells no story what so ever. So what? Mario is a pure gameplay experience, and the platforming in Mario Galaxy and its sequel are sublime. The level of polish and incredible level design is just proof enough that Miyamoto is a man that has no real equal.
RE's milkage turned up some pretty good games (RE3, CV, Outbreak 1 & 2, Remake, 0). The only problem is by the time that they set out to actually start finishing up the series they had lost all their creative drive and set out to make something entirely different because they were tired of RE.

I don't think this fits in there. The main series took 3-4 years for each game. Yes but theres also "VR missions, MGS2: Substance, MGS3:Subsistence, MGS Ac!D, MGS: Touch?" Then of course there is the main series "MGS, MGS2, MGS3, Portable Ops, MGS4, Peace Walker"

The main series took 3-4 years for each game.But if we're only talking about the main series, then Mario, Pokemon and FInal Fantasy have to be exempt from the list of 'milked franchises' too. A Pokemon main series game comes once every four years, Mario can take anywhere from two to seven years, and Final Fantasy can take up to forever.
I'd have to say Rock Band. I've spent so much on the songs, it's insane. I've had friends come over and hand me some money and say "I want you to download this, and this, and this." Bravo for all that content, Harmonix. The Pixies album was my favorite.
He's "milked" because he's put in so many games outside of the main franchise, but the main franchise is goddamn incredible. The RPG games, too. Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, all of these games are some of the best games on their respective systems, and that's incredible.

the mario name is on a lot of things. but i think he's the best "milked" franchise.
Mario party was pretty good and if it werent for the fact that they ran out of ideas/ slapped on som crappy wii controls, it would still be pretty fun.
Mario sports are pretty good. Mario golf though i never liked it i hear is rated highly. Mario tennis is imo one of the best sports games ever.
There are a lot of Zelda games so some might say the franchise is milked but the 3 cd-i games are the only bad ones. Every other Zelda game is good. It is simply amazing.

Metroid isn't milked. I wish it was though.
The only thing that I think is milked from Metroid was Hunters, Pinball and even Trilogy although Trilogy benifited many people that didn't get the Gamecube games (like me).
There are a lot of Nitendo Franchises that are not milked.
Mario. I'm completely okay with Mario being milked because the spin-off titles are, for the most part, all very good. Final Fantasy takes silver.JAB991
COD is probably the most milked game ever. It is the same game over and over with different maps. What's the difference between them other than the scenery and title?
