The biggest strike against the XBox One

So I got my XBox One yesterday. Very much enjoyed playing Dead Rising 3 Coop with a friend. Decided to play a little Deadlight after I got offline....

Um, no XBL Arcade, no Super Meat Boy, no Deadlight, no indie games channels. Nothing.

I personally don't hold any allegiances to any consoles. If it has games I like, I'll play it. Additionally, I knew going into this there would be no backwards compatibility. But I assumed that your digital download games would migrate. I think this is a terrible move by Microsoft. One of the things that made the 360 appealing for a lot of people was XBL arcade, and now its gone.

TLDR version: None of your XBL games transfer to the XBox One. WTF, Microsoft?!!! Hang on to your 360 if you want to keep playing them.

Same with PS4, PSN games won't transfer. It's BS.

@clone01: Its the same thing for the PS4 too except Flower got ported over. No backwards compatibility because they want to extend the life of previous consoles and they also get to resell you the games you already bought.

I don't. If you look at my posting history, you'd realize this. And I have many times mentioned that I'm looking very forward to getting a PS4. Just not much of a Killzone fan. Infamous is a different story.

What's the point of holding an attachment to a piece of plastic? Is this the way you act in real life? I hope your actions are something you only do on forums. Because quite frankly, your behaviors are a detriment to the perception of gaming and gamers.

On topic, that's crap about both of them. I kind of figured they'd migrate over. I guess its a different architecture.

It's one of my main grievances about both consoles. I've invested a lot of money into both PSN and XBLA and I really don't like the idea of having to have 4 consoles set up at the same time. The should have been a solution for this.

@Mr_Ditters: You can play games from 20 years ago? Because I can't. The switch to Vista mass anything that runs on Win 98 or less unplayable. I tried.

@Telekill: Just last year I tried out a game I bought in high school. Worked flawlessly. Some of those games are on 7 floppy disks and aren't worth the effort, but chances are there is someone who has figured out away to make them work, e.g. dos emulator.

Also make sure you ran it in win 98 compatibility mode.

Sadly yeah they don't transfer. And aside from a few games like Flower, Sound Shapes, and maybe one or two others that you get for free if you already had it on PS3, it's exactly the same on PS4.

you're not the first to say this, I've seen it before.

All those Xbox Live Arcade games are designed to run on a PPC machine, the Xbox 360.

This is why I only go digital on the PC and physical for Consoles/Handhelds.

Sounds Shapes, Flower and soon Escape Plan all have ps4 versions updated in 1080p with added effects like the light bar and speaker stuff and there is no additional cost if you already own them.

As for Psn games, already has resogun, contrast and super motherload on day 1.

At the moment, micro transactions. It's pretty clear Microsoft from the get go want to set this as the standard.
This is of course the best opportunity to try take people for a ride.

Sure did enjoy Dead Rising 3 yesterday. Its good to not be a fanboy and enjoy games for what they are. You might want to try it sometime.

The "official" answer from both camps seems to be cost. They are looking at streaming solutions via the Gaikai service and the Cloud, but nothing concrete yet.

Interested to see where Gaikai streaming goes and to what extent it works. I'm getting Google Fiber installed next week, so if it isn't good for me it's likely not good at all. Can't wait to try it out.

They were always good at doing things backwards.

This was announced awhile back that PSN and Live games won't transfer to new consoles. There is no backwards compatibility.

Just think... XBO has so much crap that is "custom", they will not have backwards compat yet again for the next gen.

While Sony on the other hand went 100% simplistic with the APU... That next gen there is no reason at all for them to not have BC.
