Of course there is, you think that nintendo just randomly decides to make spin-offs? Nintendo deeply cares about each and everyone one of us, their loyal fans. They don't even care about money.

Yes! And this explains why they licensed Mario and Zelda to Philips! They legitimately wanted their game series to advance beyond the limitations of the cartridge format, and thy knew of their own inexperience with making CD games, so they farmed them out to the best possible developers! It all makes so much more sense now!

Fighting eachother is just their day job. In their free time they kart, play tennis, golf, soccer and basketball.

It also explains why they went for the causal audience with the Wii. nintendo need mre funding so that they could make even more better games. But since they didn't want to charge the consumer more money they just expanded their user based to put in more money. Its not like they're keeping the money as profits or anything. Every single cent goes right back into devlopment programs. :)

Yes. They use that money to fund fan favorite games like a new F-Zero, a new Star Fox, a new Metroid Prime, a new Earthbound, a new Wave Race, and many, many more.

but they do this because they love you and don't want you playing old outdated games not because they want you to later rebuy everything when they release it on virtual console.

Yes, as can be evidenced by the fact that they don't even release that many games on the Virtual Console. Look at the N64 section of the Wii Virtual Console for proof!

What is this ... ANIMAL CROSSING ??!!

Seriously though. Nintendo does it lots of times with their series (Pikmin, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Metroid, Kid Icarus) where they let the series go cold for a while and that can really get gamers hyped. Pikmin 3 for example.

I have high hopes we'll see F Zero (and Star Fox) return some day

It could be tormorrow, it could be in 50 years:P

It's the gold standard.

No it isn't. It's simply the most popular, and thus the majority simply don't understand there are multiple kart racers that raised the standard. Crash Team Racing came out over a decade ago, and it's STILL miles better than any Mario Kart game in almost every single way. That's pretty pathetic considering how popular the series is and the budget Nintendo is capable of putting in to a Mario Kart game. CTR raised the standard. Unfortunately MK has kept its standard just as low ever since. But that's ok. Some other kart racers these days actually do put the effort in. Just look at how Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed is turning out. Mario Kart is a victim of it's own success. Nintendo knows no matter how lazy they are, Mario Kart games will continue to sell.

30 player online mode + HD visuals + track editor + more tracks and cars.

I actually think they should remake it on the Wii U.

DKR > CTR

CTR didn't raise the bar for anything, it was just a good kart racer for the PS1 (which the console was lacking).

Nonsense. All of the pretenders aspire to be MK. It still drives the kart genre. CTR was good for its time but there's a reason they're not still making them.

Nonsense. All of the pretenders aspire to be MK. It still drives the kart genre. CTR was good for its time but there's a reason they're not still making them.

They don't make CTR games any more because the Crash series itself lost popularity when the series quality declined after Naughty Dog lost the franchise. CTR is great to this day. Go play it and dare to come back and tell me any MK game is better. If you can honestly say any MK game is better, you either love the complete luck based BS of Mario Kart for some very strange reason, or you're a fanboy.

It's not even just CTR. That was one example. Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing was miles better than Mario Kart. Transformed looks even better. In fact Transformed will probably top the mighty CTR as the best kart racer ever. Hell, even Modnation Racers was better than Mario Kart. Not so much with LBPK though. That game sucks even more than MK(largely because unlike MNR it tried too hard to be Mario Kart as opposed to being its own thing like MNR).

Raise your standards and actually play other games in the genre. Want to know why Mario Kart is so popular and "drives the genre"? Because it came first. It invented the formula and made the formula popular. It's why no sandbox game will ever be as popular as GTA, regardless of quality. Not to mention the recognisable characters in Mario Kart gives it a certain appeal in that regard with the masses over others. And last but not least, MARKETING! Nintendo markets the hell out of Mario Kart. Everyone knows when a new MK game comes out. Not so much with new Sonic kart racers, which will slip by unnoticed by the masses, although still sell reasonably well. It drives the genre in popularity. In quality the standard of the series has been low for a very long time. Thankfully we've got developers like Sumo Digital around to raise the standard.

[QUOTE="Chemical_Viking"][QUOTE="burgeg"]No it isn't.

Luck based bs, eh?

Came in here to post this. Sega racing games from the '90s were the first video games I ever fell in love with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqYTopWSsbw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyo974a1GSc San Francisco Rush 2049 was also great. Still holds up, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZKFvNhsgeE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmAcVnjNeqc There's still some great arcade racers out there, too. Here's H2Overdrive, a boat racer from the same guys that made Hydro Thunder back in the day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaI_RxloON8 They also made a game called Dirty Drivin' that looks like stupid fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRKd-ffxHlc There's also Fast and the Furious Super Cars, from the guys that made the Cruis'n games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtCgP2btMHg Bunch of other stuff I can mention here...
