I assume this thread has been made close to 1,000 times but i have yet to see an active thread on it. this can either mean people flat out dont care, or i am missing something.

anyway, onto the question.

which controller is better? xbox 360 controller or the ps3 contoller? please give reasons.

i have all major game systems. but i prefer the ps3 overall. however, i strongly support the 360 controller. this is because it is a bit heavier, bigger, better looking, and has a better controller layout. i wish it was rechargeable. but you can buy the battery packs for them so that is not a problem.

what about all of you?

Thanks to me owning a PS1 and a PS2, I prefer the PS3 controller. Better D-Pad, feels better in my hands and I prefer the analogue positions.

PS2>360>PS3

gameofthering

kinda agree.

but 360>PS2>PS3 gamepads for me. Gamecube wasn't too shabby either.

360 controller is the best controller I've ever used imo. PS2 is a close second regardless.

Gamecube controller - big action buttons, as well as their placement and shape, make it perfect for racing games and the likes, and also avoid confusion between buttons such as on the Dualshock for example. Excellent triggers, as well as the C-stick make for a lot of precision. Ergonomically speaking, it's also very solid. Downsides are the pathetic D-Pad and the fact that the C-stick is not really ideal for some dual analog controlled games such as FPSs, although it does function well as a free camera button.

The Xbox (360) controller is nearly as good as it also has the correct placement of the left analog control stick, and it's just very fluid overall.

The Dualshock is good for fighting games due to its superior D-Pad. But everything else about it sucks. Sucky triggers, sucky model (it gives you cramps if you have big hands), sucky left analog control stick placement, identical action buttons. No, not my cup of tea.

That said i enjoy using all of them just that the 360 and gamecubes controller were just awesomeeeee

Never used any of the old xbox controlelrs so cant comment on those (the fat one and the smaller more streamlined type s)

I have nearly 20 consoles now and a LOT of them are from their daily launch..I have many controllers to choose from..I can honestly say that the Xbox Scontroller, and the 360 controller "which are nearly identical to me" are the best of the larger more recent controllers.

My problem with SONY is that its either the sticks move far too easily or the games developers design games differently for SONY? When aiming on the xbox/360 my aim is right on even from a distance.

BUT take the exact same game and play it on SONY..and my aim is absolutely everywhere on the screen. I have to actually slow down the sensitivity to the point of it being snail like to even hit anything.

I have no idea what the deal is with that but that is my only complaint with the SONY controller. Other than that its 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

I prefer the 360 controller, but the PS3 is better, overall. Reason being is that the playstation3 controller works well at everything--buttons/triggers/analogs/dpad. The 360 has the superior analog sticks, but the Dpad is soooo bad it isn't even worth using.

Dualshock 3, it has more sensitive sticks and buttons, and is all around more responsive. The only thing bad about it is the trigger shapes, but the real trigger add ons are cheap and fix that problem.

360 for Shooters, PS3 for Absolutely Everything Else...FACT :P (Obvious Sarcasm, its an opinion)

Well Keyboard and Mouse for shooters and RPG's and RTS's, 360 for Just Shooters, PS3 for Action Adventure, driving/racing, Platformers, everything else.

PS3 for 3D fighters where you have to double tap and you rarely have to do any fireball or dragon punch motions. 360 for everything else. I have NEVER been able to do a dragon punch on a d-pad with more than like 15% accuracy. With sticks it's like 95%. The super loose sticks on the PS3 are fail at that and their placement is cumbersome.

It is the better controller, but only because of the faulty Dpad on the 360.

Seriously though Sony, WHY am I controlling your $600 console with a glorified PS1 controller?

how so?

With move you point right at the screen in real time with 1 to 1 percetion . plus you get analog witch is far better then w s a d . you can hold it in your hands not lay it down on a desk. plus its got rumble and all that jazz . i really dont see how keyboard and mouse could be much better for fps?

Mouse and keyboard.

I don't mind either though. PS3 irritated me slightly but then I bought the real trigger add ons and now it's fine. 360 is fine too, just feels a bit clunky at times. A controller has never hindered my gaming though so I've never really preferred one over the other. Hell, I loved the Dreamcast controller and that only had one analog stick.

lol. sorry. i just thought id be the one this week.

anyway, i see what all of you mean with the D-pad. i neglected to bring that into my consideration.

so considering that, and the ps3's sixaxis and such, its coming down to a tie for me now.

PS3, reasons are....... 1. Much better D-Pad 2. Smaller and lighter 3. Rechargeable with out swapping battery packs and when the controller gets low plug in a cable and keep playing.

The PS3 controller have that familiar feel to it for me with an exceptional dpad, but on the other hand the Xbox 360 controller has better button placement personally for me.

The 360 controller is better for people with large hands.

If you have dwarf sized hands then go with the dual shock.

PS3 for functionality. 360 for comfort. The PS3 has more sensitive analog sticks, better bumpers, a better d-pad BY FAR, better face buttons. The triggers get a lot of flak but they honestly work fine, although most games don't use them anyways. The 360 has better analog placement, triggers and ergonomics.

Dualshock 3 would be perfect if they stiffened up the analogs. 360 controller does triggers and button layout pretty well.

^ Stiffened up the analogs? Why would you want that? It would just make already not so precise controls (compared to KB/M) even worse. The PS3 has great analog sticks and is one of the main reasons the controller is better than the 360.

360 by far, just feels a lot better and more stable when i hold it to me. On 360 padthe sticks are in perfect positions, PS3 sticks are arranged in a way that feels extremely uncomfortable, for my hands at least

360 really is the best controller... outside of the dpad.

but its pretty easy to fix the dpad... which actually makes it better than the ps3 dpad. And it only really matters if you play fighting games.

I feel the same way. Also, PS3 for hack and slash games, like God of War 3. Particularly, I prefer Left 4 Dead Series on the PC, but every other shooter works fine for me with 360 controller.

I can't stand PS3. Its made for 5 years olds, its just soooo tiny. Plus I hate how the sticks are right next to eachother. 360 is pretty good, but the bumper buttons are just kind of an odd place imo (PS3 has the same problem with R and L 1)

Keyboard/Mouse > Xbox 360 Controller > Dualshock 3 > Others...

When I say Xbox 360 Controller> Dualshock 3, I mean as a whole. DS3 has a far superior D-Pad, but the X360 Controller is more comfortable to hold, has better triggers and better analog stick placement. In my opinion, of course.
