This is shovelware:

asdas

This is just a bad game:

fdg

The diffrence? Shovelware is a game that is low budget, minimal effort, and designed purely on the focous of a target audience which is completly unimformed about games for that 1/100 person that walks by that buys Barbie Horse Adventures because of the brand or because it has horses in it. Bad games are respectable budget, visionary, with some degree of effort put into it that just didin't preform. In that a game such as Advent Rising or Alone in The Dark is a game with ideas, budget, and effort, however it did not live up to the ideas that were given.

I hope this gives you a more informed idea of the subject.

Advent Rising and Alone in the Dark weren't really bad games. Sure, there was a lot of hype and didn't live up to it's expectations but it did give a fairly good experience. Hour of Victory was just horrible over all. It didn't give any sort of quality experience.

atleast that games not 40$

in my opinion shovelware is where the devs dont care if the game is bad or not they are just trying to make a quick buck, a bad game is where they atleasted attempted at something good, but just failed in the end

Financially and perhaps in some ways critically, a bad game is always going to be a bad game, and more power to the consumer if they dont sell, however shovelware does sell in which it gives the publishers more money. From a morally and an industry growth standpoint Shovelware should be a disease that should be stopped since these games sell. It's essentially the same as scamming a consumer since it makes them buy a game like Bratz instead of perhaps something thats more deserving such as Zack and Wiki.

Sometimes the bad games sell well too, it's quite sad (look at 50 Cent: Bulletproof, unless you consider that Shovelware). I strongly dislike both, and I think the industry would be much better off without either.

That is argueably shovelware but it's a fine line, but since it's a licensed title. Usually licensed games are shovelware but there are noteable exceptions such as the LOTR series, Riddick, and Borne.

A lot of movie tie in's are just cheap cash ins of the movie. There are a good number of them on the Xbox360.

No, I just disagree with you. Movie tie in's with minimal efforts are shovelware. First person shooters can also be shovelware. Any game that treats it's target audience as a statistic and caters to them moronically is shovelware.

Shovelware = cheap cash in.

It's essentially the same as scamming a consumer since it makes them buy a game like Bratz instead of perhaps something thats more deserving such as Zack and Wiki.

The sad thing is, games like Zack and Wiki actually seem like shovelware at first glance.

If I was completely uninformed about the game, I wouldn't give some little kid and his flying monkey a second thought.

Anyway, as far as scamming goes, my theory is: if someone's stupid enough to actually buy something like that, then let them suffer for it.

No effort was put into it, right?

All they did was use their cheap Mii animations and added some instruments and backgrounds.

Then, you just pretend you're playing an instrument, and that's the game.

I thought that game looked like Shovelware too. It turned out to be a brilliant game that I recommend to everyone.

It took IGN massive hype and an AAA score to convince people though. I like IGN for stuff like that. They're saying The Conduit is really good too. They where also the ones who said Medal of Honor Heroes 2 had a better control system than Metroid Prime 3 and nobody believed them until it actually came out.

Just because it is being done by Nintendo it shouldn't have to get a free pass from the labeled shovelware prospect. From what we've seen of it like Shadow_of_Kirby is saying we don't even play the dam game... wth does that make it in the first place, I do not know...

Er, no. It's being made by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development. Not some third party cash in developer.

Same team who are making Wii Sports Resort.

Tony-Harrison

Just because it is being done by Nintendo it shouldn't have to get a free pass from the labeled shovelware prospect. From what we've seen of it like Shadow_of_Kirby is saying we don't even play the dam game... wth does that make it in the first place, I do not know...

I have an electronic drum kit that cost me a hell of a lot more than $50.

This isn't what I call shovelware

It's what i call the depth of a fisher price music toy.

This isin't a place for sheep to go spin out whatever agenda or properganda you have. This threads purpose was to establish the diffrence between shovelware and a bad game, thats it!

Fanboys resorting back to calling Nintendo products Fisher Price Toys - Priceless. :P

It's too bad the Master Chief is an Action Figure.

Whoa, they did that?

If the Master Chief didn't die in Halo 3, he sure is dead now.

IGN gave dog island a 7. IGN gave hour of victory a 5.7. Gamespot gave hour of victory a 2.

Dog Island >>> Hour of victory

Shovelware can be better then a bad game.

Point being? I can't show you a good bad game because that doesn't exist. A bad game is a bad game and thats that. I'm just stating the diffrence between the two, not which one is better and which one is worse. Would i play Dog Island over Hour of Victory? Probebly yes! I'd stab my eyeballs out before playing Hour of Victory.

I know.

My post wasn't even directed at you. But I guess my point is that some bad games are better then shovelware, and vice-versa.

A point worth noting is that some shovelware are bad games.

Now that I have said that he's an Action Figure the popularity of Halo is dead for sure. *snarl*

Bungie wouldn't DARE make another Halo after a remark as powerful as that surfaces on an internet forum. *snarl*

Regardless, I don't really care if a game is shovelware or not or a bad game... I'm not forced to buy them. Out of all the mediums, this is definitely the most recurring one where the consumers(in other words hardcore gamers) cry about things they don't enjoy or will never try or buy in the first place.

E3 show aside, that video wasn't all that bad. I wonder if the responce is good... from the video it seemed to be alright.
