Since The Division‘s launch exactly three months ago, Ubisoft’s “fastest-selling game ever” (according to the publisher who did not provide exact numbers at the time) has gone from a daily total of 2.1 million players at its peak to now down 93% to just 143k total players yesterday on Steam.

Dat longevity.

And their idea to get people back in is DLC, which is randomly generated levels.

No, thanks.

Hahahahaha. I knew it was going to suck after that horrid beta. I was actually going to buy the game, so I can thank Ubisoft for releasing it and saving me money.

Played it, there are certain things about the game that are pretty solid, but it's pretty boring setting wise. I can sort of get into finding gear in things like Diablo or Destiny, on a cosmetic level, in The Division? It's the quest for the greatest Ak47 in all the land.

Hard to tell the actual number of players from Steam Survey for a game that wasn't sold exclusively on Steam for PC. It was actually cheaper to buy through Uplay when it was released. There's no doubt that the player base has dropped massively but Steam isn't the whole picture.

I'm annoyed they shoehorned the Tom Clancy name into this crap. Tom Clancy games used to be associated with realistic military action. The Division is Destiny without aliens.

Played at launch for a while, dropped it like it's hot as DS3 came out.

Division is really clunky and it's endgame is pathetic. It's no surprise that people don't want to play anymore.

The core game is actually pretty amazing. It's the end game that lost people. A lot of stuff went down after they released the first incursion that really hurt them. There's a lot of good in the game, and I believe they addressed a lot of the issues in the 1.2 patch, but a lot have already left and lost interest.

I think the real number is more or less about 200-300k on PC (its not only available on steam)...add in consoles, its probably hovering at 600-700k max.

Still, they lost quite a chunk. But then, aren't all MMOs started off like that in the beginning? A big bang, then got sucked into a blackhole but stabilised after about a year or two. Some actually became much more popular after a huge decline. ESO, SWTOR, Final Fantasy(which literally was resurrected from a total failure)...

I actually liked it up until they started making so many changes. Then the disaster known as the first incursion when the glitches made playing DZ impossible solo. It didn't have enough content to hold me. It was trying to be a better Destiny but couldn't sustain me like Destiny did year 1. Just not a lot to do.

What haters? I mean, the game is sort of fun at first, but it quickly becomes a grind. That's a pretty legitimate reason to not like the game.

Game was all right. I thought the collectibles were way more enticing than they usually are in Ubisoft games. They actually built the world up, let you see into the lives of those tragically destroyed by the chaos that was caused by the Dollar Flu and the rioting. It was still a little meh considering I would just run around looking for them and that gets dull after a while. The core game was fun, but the side missions were incredibly repetitive whether they be "real" side missions in each district or if they were encounter side missions, i.e. medical, tech, and security. I really did like some of the main missions though, especially the Cleaner ones. So the setting and all is pretty cool if a bit... meh here and there. Gameplay was fine, but I played most of the game by myself so it got a little boring/lonely. I could tell there was a huge drop in people playing because some squad searches took forever to the point where I'd give up. I didn't feel it was too grindy though as I could usually get through most of the game with the weapons and items I had and didn't have to grind a lot to be able to tackle a mission. Though, towards the end it did get to that point. Didn't play much of the Dark Zone but I know there are a lot of hackers in there apparently so that's kind of a turn off.

The game can be pretty fun and the dark zone is a great idea, but it's a terrible loot game.

You weren't farming for awesome gear drops. You were farming for credits, which you would use to buy blueprints. Then you would farm for mats to build the gear.

That just kills the fun of those games. It's a big reason Diablo 3 was so unpopular when the auction house was still a thing.

It didn't take me long to drop The Division.

I'm too busy playing Destiny to care about Division and standing-by for the next DLC and Destiny 2. I'm sorry SW but my doctor says I'm heading for destruction so I might as well let Destiny destroyed me.

I play about three or four times a week, spending most of that in the Dark Zone. Most of my friends play that much or more (they play more PvE). We all like loot, co-op, and pvp games.

Sure, that's fine and good, but just because someone doesn't like it doesn't mean they are automatically a hater... Usually "haters" are described as being jealous or hating for reasons out of spite rather than legitimacy.

Ive played it maybe 25 hours total since it launched. Maybe an hour or two a week now. Its just so damn repetitive, and Ubisoft cant make a game that isnt a stuttering mess.

@DragonfireXZ95: Why should anyone need a more legitimate reason to like/ hate a game other than they like or hate the game? So many go into these rationales of why they're legit on their opinion. It's my money and time I play games with. I, you nor they have to justify why we buy or like anything.

Is somebody of the opinion that a hefty dropoff is atypical?

And wasn't The Division the largest new IP launch ever? Even losing 93%, that's indicative there's still a playerbase to exploit, err, accommodate :P

Yeah, the worse is when you defend the game and go like "oh i liked the game it was satisfying" , they think of you as some casual gamer who should be frowned upon ....i don't care tho, all that matters is to enjoy the game... all hobbies are, in the first place, subjective....and those who can't grasp this simple fact are just ignorant.

The first free DLC turned me off the idea of DLC for The Division it was that bad. Almost impossible to play.

But, the game wasn't terrible, for the initial SP and co-op stuff it's decent, some okay MP stuff but lacks lasting apeal.

It's a very disappointing game. I had high hopes since it was from the makers of World in Conflict, but it's just another average TPS.

I remember lots of people telling me how wrong i was for shitting on this garbage. All my friends that purchased this game did not last over 3 weeks and came out hating the damn thing. Now, you may say that 3 weeks for a $60 title is decent enough but its a wannabe mmo and 3 weeks for a mmo'ish title is pathetic. For some reason, not a single dev is able to create an mmo'ish console title with longevity that isn't based around running one or two 20minutes long mission to grind better gear. But when you do get that "better gear", there's nowhere for you to use it in because the mission you've been farming for 10000000 times was already the most challenging aspect of the game. Borderlands 3 please save us!

Gears of Destiny (The Division) is a good game. I have played it a lot since it launched. I don't play it all the time, but I have fun every time I do. It has been well worth the money. I don't buy these games to play everyday. I have so many games to play anyway. So, I do not get disappointed if it is not the greatest thing ever and doesn't keep me coming back everyday. I have played more hours of The Divsion than I have of The Witcher 3 and I love TW3. So, obviously Ubisoft is doing something right.
