The series has been pretty consistently terrible for a while now.
I have no idea how the devs continue to get funding for such a terribad franchise....
i hope you did notice that there are 3 types of events in the demo, and the demo was i guess okFollow this guy then transfer into his car. Yayyy how fun.

transfer?MFDOOM1983"Shift" from one car to the next .i.e. press a button while driving and you'll be taken to an overhead angle where you can select a car that you like the look of and assume control of it. Explained in the single player : "The main guy has a stroke or something and now he can fly around the city possessing cars" Yeah... Pretty nifty mechanic though, and shifting from one car to the next is smooth and fluid. Also, it makes the MP that little bit more frantic, in a good way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppvt80Ssmpc
Both Driver demos were great. Especially the multiplayer. A return to form for the series definitely. Good fun and easy to pick up and play driving. Cool shift feature and great cop chases. The multiplayer is given a whole new experience thanks to shift. Tag and Trailblazer are hella fun. Those are modes that would have sucked major balls without shift. Nice to see innovation in the genre. The ability to get right back in the action when you crash is great. I'll be getting it day one. I haven't had so much fun with a driving game in a while.
Reminded me of the Wheelman, it was pretty dull and the car physics seemed all over the place, either be arcadey or don't. They should've made it all about car chases and high speed driving through traffic and not "hehe get this guy arrested lololol"bobbetybobYa, the cars were all over the place time to time. I wonder if this game supports wheels. I should try it with my Logitech G25, doubt it'll work though.
I am on the fence of how this will do considering the PS1 games were amazing and the PS2 games were awful.
tried the demo for 2 minutes, and said nope it's boring lol. wonky controls turned me off big time. i wasn't gonna get the game anyway.
transfer?MFDOOM1983Transfarr. I'll give the MP demo a spin because I heard that was the better part of the game. Never had a good feeling about this game though.

play the multiplayer demo...that was terrific.I actually am really enjoying both the SP and MP demo's they do feel more like the old driver games than a GTA clone game.
I personally think its gonna be one of the sleeper hits this year.
I take it that most of you didn't play the original Driver game huh?

Would it be a good thing or a bad thing in this case? I have palyed the originals and even the ones on ps2. The chases felt like the old driver and that got a little nostalgic for me. Times have changed and this type of game just isn't for me.
I take it that most of you didn't play the original Driver game huh?LegatoSkyheartI did. But I don't think this "shift" mechanic works. Driver has always been a semi-realistic driving game (only limited by the technology at the time), and this to me, seems incredibly arcadey, and downright dumb. Now, I thought the driving mechanics themselves were fantastic... but they were in DRIV3R as well. And the lack of changing cars normally frustrates me. Reflections has never been great at mission design (the last mission in Driver 2 is almost impossible). But I would be willing to give the full game a chance (for $20).

Anyone who says the SHIFT mechanic dose not work has not played the game long enough to see it in action. also anyone who says the game sucks but only played for 5-10 minutes also is not qualified to say weather it sucks or not. you need to play the demo for a half hour PLUS then you will start to see how awesome it is. why me and my friends have already gotten several hours of gameplay from the multiplayer demo and intend to keep playing it as long as others do. this is a very very fun game you just need to play it longer to see that.
I liked it, I also am enjoying the story presentation. I never liked the story in the past driver games, they were always too serious for what they really are. The shift mechanic is also really cool and I'm glad that its a major part of the story.

From a gameplay perspective, I can see it possibly opening some doors, but the fact they try to contextualise it with the story is just laughable. I'll try the demo again (I was really tired when I first tried it) but I won't hold my breath. Also, can transmission shifting be changed to manual?

strangely where shift mechanics work best is in the multiplayer, games of tag are insane when its switching so rapidly to keep up or try and catch out the person tagged :P
The SP should be fairly fine in the sense that driver seems to have shifted back more to the driving aspects :P police seem fairly fine aswell.

We've seen films with stranger plots that are good :P
I gave the demo another try. I ignored the story and focused on the gameplay.
Yes, this is Driver reborn. If there is "Free Drive" and a replay editor like there was in the original two, I'll definitely be getting this at some point. This *is* the Driver 3 we've been waiting so long for. The story is odd... I'll give it that, but I can forgive that for the sake of the gameplay. I'm not going to pass up one of the few city-driving games on the market that is well-made just because I find the concept of the story and contextualizing gameplay elements into it absolutely ridiculous.
And I'm not sure about other people, but these physics are very good for a *driving* game. They make it feel like you are in a real car, rather than a race car riding around on a smooth tracks. The fact this is set in San Francisco brings back some amazing memories of the legendary "Nob Hill" jumps I did. Hope its in this one too.
