I have seen a great many lemmigs over the years spreading a myth about the Dualshock 3 that if the battery goes bad, you need to throw the whole controller away. This is absolutely ridiculous, and I think it's time we set the record straight. If your battery goes bad, YOU REPLACE THE BATTERY. All you have to do is buy one, unscrew your controller and replace it. Aren't the Xbox 360 battery packs about $10 a piece, anyway?

http://vpgames.com/p-1002-playstation-3-lithium-ion-battery-pack-replacement-battery-for-ps3-control-pad.aspx

There is no reason to go around saying "if your battery dies, you throw it away." Do you throw away your Xbox 360 controllers when they die, or do you just buy new batteries for them? This is a ridiculous, dishonest talking point and I am amazed that there are still lemmings who use it.

my PS3 controllers have all kept a charge pretty well, though they also don't have much vibration as I'd like, but it's not much of an issue, though I can see the room for myth since it doesn't have a replacement battery, anyhow, I don't mind playing with wired controllers, do so for my xbox 360, and if I needed to I can always have my PS3 controller plugged it if it needs it, I'd rather do that than go spend another $50 right away the only problem I have on my Dual Shock 3 is the SIXAXIS isn't as good as my other pre-Dual Shock 3 controller, and the only game it matters in is Blast Factor for some reason, my Dual Shock doesn't respond as quickly as needed for some reason, for everything else it works dandy

I still think its stupid to put batteries inside the controller instead of using removable batteries like the psp or ds.

To be fair, this is the first I've (and I'm sure others) heard of someone offering replacement Sixaxis/DS3 batteries, and I'm sure if you were to ask Sony they would tell you to send in your controller to have the battery replaced at your expense.

Good to know though, hopefully newegg or another more reputable site starts carrying them.

I noticed this after trashing my first controller. I usually trash the controller before the battery goes bad, lol. I have kept all the battery's in case I need to change one out.

if there was a battery pack in the store and an easy way to change it sure, but likely those are batteries from a second hand store recycling broken controllers any way they can. I haven't seen any proper support from sony for swapping batteries, likely it'll void warranties if you open the controller up

Warranty??? Who cares about that? By the time a Dualshock3 battery needs replacing any warranty will be LONG gone anyway. I'm more worried for wearing out the buttons first anyway. Battery is not even a concern until 3+ years, and at that point if you're playing constantly then you will probably need to replace controllers for other reasons besides the rechargeable battery.

If anything the 360 batteries are the ones with problems. Both of mine now last about an hour of gaming before they start flashing to be charged.

I have seen Lemmings claim this for years, they have been corrected but they still manage to dredge it up every ounce and a while.

the first generation of ps3 contollers do not follow this method I do believe it isn't untill after the first year that you could remove the battery from the ps3 controller.

my dualshock has a removable battery, Im unsure of the original sixaxis I got with my launch 60 gig.

Well we kinda need more threads like this, in the other battery thread, the first person who brought up the fact that you can replace ds3 batteries and that they only cost like 5 or 6 bucks was ignored and never really brought up again. Logic is so widely ignored on this forum, though I guess that's what makes system wars system wars.

by the time the battery wont hold enough charge for a gaming session ps3 will be obsolete. Rechargeable batteries last ages, had my AA rechargeable for at lest 5 years and they are still going strong.

I've been looking to do this ever since my DS3 died and i've been stuck with my basic SixAxis.

Paying $10 beats paying $50-60 any day.
